And voice recognition needs a camera.... because?
Voice recognition doesn't need a lot of things.

Yes,enough for it doesn't require online,"always on" not even meaning online part at first(even most of online features have something to do with always on aka low power mode)It's a pretty short description overview, yet uses the terms"always on" "always connected" "connected entertainment" and "always maintain a network connection". Isn't that enough for devs?
- Always on, Always connected
- Kinect sold with every console, wider FOV, no motors, better tracking
- Kinect is required to be plugged in
- All games must be installed on HDD [you can start playing few secs after installation starts], game data streaming from optical disc not supported
No.
But I develop on MS platforms yes.
It is just the blind rage that annoys me... people do not even think when they see "always on" and "Kinect". It is just like the old days when people raged at CDs and analog sticks etc...
lol, of course it isn't. MS haven't said anything at all about Durango and when they've been contacted about rumours, they've given the usual "we don't comment on rumours and speculation" answer. In the past, they have done that many times with things that have turned out to be false, as well as things that have turned out to be true. We don't even know for sure if this leaked document is real, but assuming that silence is solid clarification of things that are only rumours from anonymous sources to begin with is just silly.I would consider that to be a clarification. Sidestepping the issue is basically the same as confirming it.
It's the same arguments in all the Microsoft threads, and usually by all the same people, many of which have never had any interest in the platform in the first place. A friendly advice - just ignore it and wait for the reveal.
Why this rage vs the "always on" thing.
My PC atm is always on, heck even my 360 is always on, my iPad is always on and my phone is always on.
Do you guys live in caves or what?
Always on means that some online things are still active... almost certainly notifications and background downloads.
Oh and the no streaming from disk is AWESOME. Finally I can get rid of disks. Install once, never look back and nice and silent as well. F*ck the noisy consoles of this gen. MS also made sure they can go all digital with this, since people can start playing very quick while the game is downloading. These are all great features.
Some of you people here are so emo, you can cry even under water.
Jesus Christ. Nothing says the system stops functioning when not connected. Nothing says games require registration.
I'm seriously fucking embarrassed at GAF reading comprehension right now.
For me - I can't wait for seamless installing of games so I don't need to insert the disc every time. I can't wait for automatic patch updating so I don't have to sit through all that every time. I can't wait for a suspend mode which means I don't have to wait for the console and game to boot up whenever I want to dip in and out. I'm also excited about the notion that the console will automatically download demos etc for me whilst it's in a low power state. There's lots to be excited about IMO.
So you don't have to go through the process of booting up the system and waiting to log in every time you want to play. Basically sleep/hibernation mode.So let me get this straight, it's always connected but not really always connected? So what's the point of saying always connected when it doesn't really require it? Doesn't your interpretation mean it's just like every other console?
- Always on, Always connected
- Low powered mode
- Kinect sold with every console, wider FOV, no motors, better tracking
- Kinect is required to be plugged in
- Low latency controller with "improved ergonomics", simplified interaction with console OS
- Bluray drive
- All games must be installed on HDD [you can start playing few secs after installation starts], game data streaming from optical disc not supported
- Only digital audio out
Same here. It's going to get rid of several of the frustrations of this gen. The PS4 has much of this too, yet some people can see nothing positive in the leaked article - not even the stuff about it being easier to develop for than the 360 or the improved controller. For me - I can't wait for seamless installing of games so I don't need to insert the disc every time. They already wrote it on the wall. They may as well draw a picture too. It doesn't matter if one intends to turn a blind eye to it anyway.
come on now - someone click the "Durango Specs"-link in that document, and let us in on the details![]()
Can you guys take better resolution pictures? and more? I wanna see that Durango Specs, Durango Alpha Kit and Durango Beta kit pointsShow us more

huh?how can you be a sony fan yet play 360 most of the time?
That's what it looks like to me.
- EDGE releases rumour that next Xbox has this permanent onlin connection required
- EDGE is proven very accurate on PS4 rumours released around same time
- GameStop starts very loudly an publically complaining about anti-used games initiatives
- Sony outright says we are not requiring a connection; GameStop continues to freak out
- several high profile game sites seem to corroborate the EDGE rumours
- now this doc leaks from devout and uses the marketing phrase Always On, Always Connected; specifically uses the phrase "will always maintain an online connection"
.... and somehow those who are reading this as exactly what it appears to be are accused if bad reading comprehension. It's like the barn is on fire; smoke is pouring out an there's an orange glow, but - no you morons, not fire, don't jump to conclusions, clearly they are just painting. Lern 2 reed.
As I said before I will be really happy to be wrong about this. But if they don't outright deny it then I'm going to assume that it is what it look like.

Yeah, if you take it out of context.
It mentions that "Durango will implement different power states " so that it "will be ready instantly when users want to play, and will always maintain a network connection so that console software and games are always current".
It's clear as day that they're talking about background network connectivity there, not always online DRM as you claim.
And as for people crying about the Kinect being always on and talking about privacy, well I'm sure most of ye lay bare yare lives on facebook, post about yare toilet habits on twitter, post in threads on GAF such as girl age etc but will get worries about what a camera might be doing.
I think it's both. This is my point from very early in the thread. Requirements and features bundled together under a sub brand like Kinect.
And I beg your pardon but my whole post was nothing but contextI am choosing to not specifically read one or two sentences from this in isolation; trying to look at the big picture.
Always on,always connected, block used games are about software and easy to changeThat's what it looks like to me.

Yes, because I choose how to use those platforms and I can turn them off. I choose what to share. Having Kinect always on is like Twitter taking a picture of you and publishing it every time you look at your Twitter feed.
And even if Kinect won't be used for profiling for marketing purposes, it still means that things like "pay an additional fee for each person who will watch this video in your room" could be implemented. Judging from Microsoft past actions, there are not many reasons to think they will not have that kind of approach.
If that's fine for you, cool. But don't be surprised if people think it crosses a line.

Now, if this means the console only works after scanning your face and recognizing you as the owner, that would be a real disaster, but i don't think that's the case. Right ?

That's just blaming them on pure suppositions... there's a difference between what technology can do and what companies decide to do with it.
Besides, if MS ever set up such a system and you don't want to pay per user, well don't. There are many other alternatives out there for movie on demand that won't change if the public doesn't want it to (and that's why MS won't do it, unless it brings benefits to the user too... marketing isn't forcing your product on people, it's making them want to buy it).
You're underestimating the intelligence of people. People know and understand what they're complaining about.
Of course, a lot of people right now are interpreting "Always on" to be "Always online" just to play games at all, ala SimCity, which should be pretty self-explanatory why there is anger at that after that debacle. And the reason people are interpreting it that way is the string of highly believable rumours, from the same places that got the PS4 stuff all right, saying Durango requires internet to even play games.
And I can tell you that I have an internet and my things are connected, but I cannot tell you the number of times I have removed my 360 from the internet for one reason or another. Sometimes I don't want an update forced on me because it does something I disapprove of to a game or the system, which was actually far more often than you'd believe. Sometimes we'd hear a patch actually ruins something and so people are told 'don't patch' until that gets fixed... so i turn off my 360 from the internet. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with some people on my friends list and disconnecting it is easier than having to go invisible and pretending I'm not online. It doesn't matter. The point is, there's a million reasons people might not want a system that was "Always on" in that sense, and it doesn't matter how valid you or I think those reasons are. Because the consumer shouldn't be forced into something like that.
The Kinect hate is self-explanatory, and people really need to get over acting all surprised about the reasons behind it at this point. Kinect has now been out for years and its tech has proven abominable for 98% of all genres. That's not even an exaggeration. Virtually everything that wasn't mini-game tripe or dance games was so fucking awful that it defies all possible articulation here. And hell, maybe it'd be forgivable if it created some new genres. Except it hasn't, the fuckin' tech hasn't brought one single new idea to the table. The tech, because it has no tactile feedback, no buttons, is inherently worthless for most genres. And if it's voice tech people want for the OS and whatnot, coulda just used a far cheaper solution. No amount of improvements in Kinect 2.0 will ever change that it has no tactile feedback and no buttons, and therefore is worthless for most games. So instead of improving Durango in ways that will impact MOST genres positively, consumers now have a shit dead-end technology that works for only one or two horrible genres most people never gave a shit about in the first place. Seems a poor trade-off to me, but what do I know: I don't develop games for an MS platform, I only buy them.
Wow...
Tin foil hats are free today.
This is 2013 isn't it? Or are we stuck in 1984?

And right now you dont know anything about the console. You know what is rumored but you dont have any facts to base these rants on. How can you complain that MS is not spending enough money improving the system when you dont know what is in the system to begin with? Thats an open ended complaint that you could throw out there no matter what MS puts in its next system. Since you dont like Kinect no matter what CPU/GPU/RAM, etc....they put in that box you could sit there and say "the Kinect is trash and MS could have spent that money improving the system".
Thank the lord we only have about 1 month until this thing is revealed and then we can have fact based discussions on what is and isnt in the box and what it can and cant do. Right now its just people throwing out nightmare scenario after scenario based on nothing but rumors.
