VGX 'Most Anticipated 2014 Game' nominees

Makes sense games like Smash and InFamous aren't nominated. They're exclusive games and all the games nominated are multi plats. Naturally games on multiple platforms are more anticipated as they reach a wider audience.

most anticipated is code word for "biggest game releasing early next year". if you look at it for the full year, Halo and Smash would've both been major oversights to exclude

In that case InFamous: Second Son is a bit of an oversight, too, though.

Destiny!

I am disappointed by the lack of hype for this game. I just hope the game turns out to be how I imagine it: Halo-like shooting mechanics, items and spells as complex as maybe in a Diablo game, MMO-like teamplay and a fresh sci-fi backstory with some depth.

South Park looks to be a type of game I've not played this gen

Basically it's Paper Mario, now there are no games out there that try and copy PM, hence why people are hyped. The Mechanics and design of Paper Mario with the writing from Trey Parker and Matt Stone easily makes the game my most anticipated.

Honestly, I think South Park is the only one of those that seems really strange. I'd probably replace that with Smash and the Witcher with Final Fantasy XV.

Witcher is probably the only notable experience from that list that I will have next year. Everything else will fade into mediocrity by the time we are voting for most anticipated of 2015.

Out of these probably The Witcher 3, though I am more interested in Cyberpunk myself. If only it wasn't so far away.

My most wanted 2014 game is probably Bayonetta 2 though.

Holy shit...it is.

2009 - Halo 3: ODST
2010 - Halo Reach
2011 - Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (if you want to count this)
2012 - Halo 4
2013 - Halo: Spartan Assault (also not sure if it counts)
2014 - Halo 5

Well, this is depressing.

Not a yearly franchise. For odst and reach, Bungie had to complete a two game contract with MS. ODST is an expansion and reach is a spinoff. Anniversary is a re-release from an old game and spartan assaulit is a phone game.

Unfortunately for me my most anticipated game is on a console I dont intend to buy any time soon - Titanfall. Destiny would be second and Mario Kart third.

Pretty terrible series imo..

You're a bad person.

Niche compared to call of duty and the likes, but DS1 still sold over 3M IIRC. That's not much more niche than the witcher.
Almost 2.4 million, but still, it's undeniably a relatively small series in terms of mind share among consumers. In any case, the nominees are picked by an 'advisory council' of game journalists.

South Park makes the list and SSB does not...Sorry I clicked the link.

SSB
Destiny
Everquest Landmark / hopefully Everquest next beta also makes 2014.
Mario Kart

Witcher 3 is my most anticipated game of that list. If that game manages to be 80% close to what I think it will be, it will be the best Wrpg ever contructed by humans.

Uh, it really is a yearly franchise at this point. On average there's been a Halo game released every year since 2007. It doesn't matter if they're spin-offs or prequels; they still count. No doubt Halo 2 Anniversary is already cooking for a 2015 release as well.

I could do without all of these games. Infamous: Second Son, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, Smash Bros Wii U/3DS, and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney are all higher on my most anticipated list than these.

Witcher 3 because I'm curious to see how the mod community will turn out for that game.

Project Eternity is still number one for me.
