VGX 'Most Anticipated 2014 Game' nominees

It doesn't look like a special game to me in any way. Something just seems fishy about how the press are soooooooooOOOOoooo excited by it.
It's because of three things.. It's made by the original call of duty team. It's apparently is a fun game to play... Now if I stopped there, I could understand why one might be interested in it, but where oh where does the massive amount of hype come from? You might ask. Well IMHO that comes from the fact that it's Xbox exclusive. We've seen over the past few months how the vast majority of the press have a bias towards anything Xbox, and this game is no exception. Is it unfair? Yes, but that's the world we live in. Personally I'm more hyped for Infamous, the Witness, and The Order; and yes I myself am biased more towards the Playstation end of things, but at least I admit it and don't hide behind a guise of false neutrality.

Btw, I'm sure Titanfall will be a pretty good game, and I'm glad I have the option to play it on the PC.

Hard to be excited about a game that is never coming to your preferred console.
Not going to get a 360 again for it. Not spending $500 on an Xbone for it. Not a PC gamer. EA has locked out 50% of the market for Titanfall. Expect people to hate on it out of spite.
If the hate over Titanfall was about the game not coming out on Playstation, then why isn't this thread filled with PC gamers whining about Destiny? It's the same situation but with the platforms swapped around.

I'd say South Park because on the upside Obsidian and Trey and Mark are , but on the downside Obsidian.

Guess I'll be voting for Destiny.
Obsidian is actually getting to finish the game and they haven't had to rush the game out in a year (+/- 3-6 months). In this case, Obsidian can probably not be a downside, if you're referring to their publisher-rushed games being a bit unfinished & glitchy.

i see some ppl hatin on Titanfall already before release, guess mostly because its not coming on playstation

all i want to hear is that its not gonna require browser and punkbuster lol

I don't think it's that most people are bitter, more... puzzled. It's getting so much industry praise already, and it doesn't look anything amazing in my opinion. I'm sure it'll be fun, but the amount of awards thrown at it and press hype feels very at odds with the general opinion of a lot of consumers.

backslapping in the game industry, marketing, money changing hands etc.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with this. The whole Spike TV Awards thing reminds me of some big self-congratulatory back-slap, rather than a proper awards show with any objective opinions.

Wow I was wondering why destiny appeared twice on the left, then I read the text. They really do look similar.

Anyway, of that list I'd go with Destiny. There are definitely some big omissions though.

They don't count as main games. You are going to count handheld and cellphone games too then? It doesn't make sense. Also in 2008 there wasn't a halo game.

I'm not saying they're 'main games'. I'm saying there's been on average a Halo game every year since 2007:

2007 - Halo 3
2009 - Halo Wars
2009 - Halo 3 ODST
2010 - Halo Reach
2011 - Halo CE Anniversary
2012 - Halo 4
2013 - Halo: Spartan Assault (Windows Phone/Xbox 360/Xbox One)
2014 - Halo 5

This is milking to the extreme.

list is incomplete:

Seriously though; wouldn't you just turn around and fucking leg iit?!

The Witcher 3 for me, and I haven't even played any of the games yet, still waiting to do so.

Although that The Division trailer was incredible at E3 and I want to see more of it.

If Mirror's Edge 2 was on there it would have been my choice for sure.

I voted Witcher 3, but I could have easily chosen South Park ahead of it on another day. Can't wait for either.

Seeing as quite a lot of people don't get the South Park hype I will explain why I am excited. It's made by Obsidian which is an instant plus for me. And the whole game is being written by Matt & Trey. That should mean the game is of a good quality. I'm hoping it's like a 30 hour South Park movie. Based on the trailers looks like there will be a decent amount of choice too. So siding with Cartman in my first playthrough.

Plus they are huge fans of video games having stated that the game is inspired by Paper Mario, Skyrim & Earthbound.

I'd go for super smash bros on WiiU to be honest. The list is kinda meh, the witcher would be a default choice.

Welp, nothing for me. I'm quite looking forward to Watch_Dogs, but I can hardly call it my most anticipated game for 2014.

That extended demo turned me completely off from this game, to be honest.

It looked like it controlled like absolute ass, glitchy, clunky, terrible dialogue and voice acting. Too bad, because the atmosphere looks great.
And this is different from any of the other greatest horror games... how? Watching other people play horror games hardly give a good feel of how the game actually feels to play and is kinda pointless other than for the laugh-factor if they are scaredycats(like me .___. )

And really, have we not learned anything about judging unfinished builds of games? They've still got, what, 5-6 months for polishing & stuff.

It's not too different, hence why I'm not a big fan of them.

I did enjoy the original Dead Space very much and it employed very smooth intuitive controls, great dialogue and voice acting to boot. No reason these things shouldn't be possible in a horror game.

I voted Titanfall because I know I'd have a lot of fun with it. Not gonna purchase it, though, because lolOrigin.

That being said, Witcher 3 pretty much looks like it's gonna run away with GotY 2014. I haven't even played Witcher 2 and even though I'm not necessarily hyped to play Witcher 3, it the Witcher series has become THE series to play on PC and I'm very interested in seeing how Witcher 3 does.

The Evil Within is going to be amazing. I believe.

I want to like it because Mikami is one of the few japanese game designers that are still active that I respect, but I haven't seen anything about that game yet that doesn't look outdated in some way. It just doesn't look fun to play at all.

I wOuld guess most PC gamers don't really care about bungie because they are console centric developers and all the halo games that ever came out on pc were badly ported. So unless you also own a console there's no real attachment.

This kind of shit makes me so cynical. An award to specifically congratulate some big companies' marketing and ability to maintain a hype campaign that they spend millions on. It's like the Superbowl. It's awards like these that make this whole affair feel like just a gigantic conglomerate of ads.

South Park on the list makes sense, just because it's a licensed game that looks at least decent with a good developer behind it.

The South Park 'brand' is also obviously about a million times more well known than these other games.

This is so cliche that it's not scary at all.Even the Souls games have much more scarier moments (and atmosphere) than this.

Simpsons H.P. Lovecraft did it!

There's nothing new under the sun, it's all about context and execution.

I don't think we can really properly judge how scary or atmospheric the game is until it's out.

Personally I'm expecting something like Resident Evil 4-2, so a really good action-horror game with pretty good atmosphere at times, not a game that's 100% only trying to be scary even at the expense of the gameplay, like say, Silent Hill. (and I really like Silent Hill)

I saw the movie Mama while I was out of town for Thanksgiving and this gif reminds me EXACTLY of it.

I agree.. it'd be like the academy giving out an Oscar for most anticipated movie.. totally shallow.
