Let me ask you a question.

Do you honestly feel that White people have the exact same chance of being pulled over (for no reason) and all things are equal?

No sorry white people are not assumed to be stealing their own car like black folks are. This is some obtuse crap right here.

Thank you, as a white woman, for pointing out what all police officers who pullover black people are thinking.

You speak as if everything you write is fact and it's 100 percent truth.

I'm sorry I haven't met a white person yet who's been targeted and pulled over because they might have stolen their car.

It has been 2 years, and I want to say I am sorry.
My eyes have been opened more during my time here and I wanted to apologize for my posts.

You're just being really obtuse, and it makes you look bad, at best.

Oh and because you've met black folks who have, you can automatically assume that's what happens all of the time?

I know all about the term 'driving while black', why it happens and how often. But to make the great leaps in assumption you did, doesn't help anything.

You know all about the term but we need to reflect on the small minority of white people who get pulled over because they made an illegal left turn. Okay.

I don't think its going to be something that can be answered fully by many because its too easy to be obtuse about.

Instead, ask why black people are always viewed from the lower common denominator and individuals are viewed as ambassadors from all with that skin tone and background. Too many subtleties at work, too many long-standing issues glossed over for a simple if x was y comparison.

The effects of housing discrimination alone can explain so much but its never taught in schools at any length. Institutional racism, the bible of Jim Crow, casual biases built and reinforced over time - this isn't something most who disagree ever talk or think about.

I just don't get it, white privilege is basically not being suspected of crimes on nearly the same level, as this vid proves, but here we are.

I accept that things are not equal. But when you see economic development in the 'hood, and it gets torched - what the fuck? If someone is coming to help you, and you push them away who's fault is that?

And I said the system has to change. It has to help them in every way. Bus them, tutor them, give scholarships - whatever. Give them help with incentives to succeed. No pays outs from a stack of blank checks. If they need rent, food and transportation to go to school, whatever it takes. But only with results, and encouragement and goals.

I am fortunate I am white, and while I didn't take school as seriously as I should have, I paid enough attention to learn how to read, write and speak. I have had a job and paid for everything since 16, including rent. While I don't have the education to do so, I would love to do or see someone just work on interview and speaking skills with people in need (and everyone in general for that matter).

I try my best not to judge people by their cover or skin. If they present themselves respectably, or can carry on some kind of conversation I am game with helping them. I get pleasure from having someone in need of someone asking a question and listening. Everyday that someone asks a question, and ignores the answer or assumes they know everything a part of me dies.

This entire post is awesome but the bolded stands out as magical.

Give "them" handouts (whatever) so we don't have to give..."them"...handouts?

I agree with you that (in your own words) you are fortunate to be White.

It allows you to be oblivious to things like centuries of institutionalized racism and other things that have gotten us to where we are today in America.

No, we read it. We just had the good sense not to bother responding to someone trying to justify discrimination with tautology.

I didn't justify discrimination. I pointed out why it happens in the US and why it will always happen.

You'd be an utter fool to think removing this so-called white privilege will change anything. You'd eventually just substitute one ethnic group in power for another. That's the eventuality. A lot of you folks agree you have white privilege, but you don't accept why you have it.

Gentrification is not "someone coming to help you". Its pretty much an eviction notice since you'll no longer be able to afford the price of living in the area. Also, historically, these types of communities have been given plenty of reasons to not be trusting either.

And I said the system has to change. It has to help them in every way. Bus them, tutor them, give scholarships - whatever. Give them help with incentives to succeed. This isn't just a throwmoneyatit issue. Even if it was, no politician is going to do it because those votes aren't important enough. There's no incentive to ever give an incentive. Money is tight, and the poor urban areas only have value when its time to knock it down and build a new a mall.

I just think that you're missing some key parts of a discussion that is much bigger than you were ever aware. This dialogue goes a lot further than being pulled over for looking "wrong".

The video looked like it was in a "white" area. Film the same video in a "black" neighborhood. I am not discrediting the racism, but the profiles of an area can change the results of how many phone calls were made to report a crime.

How many Black people do you think, in a "Black" area as you call it, would call 911 cause 2 men (Black or White) were merely sleeping in their car?

Let me ask you a question.

Someone already asked in this thread and ill respond with the same answer

While it is a good tip in general and I do see your Point. Do you see mine as well? Can't you see that I'd probably as a young black male most likely be profiled or mistaken for pulling out a gun? It seems like you're trying to dismiss that possibility, unless i'm mistaken
I think it depends on some other variables in addition to your skin color.. like how you conduct yourself and how you are dressed and it also depends on the cop. If I were the cop, I'd approach all with caution
To expand on this..
If this same cop that profiled you were to pull over both a black dude who looked like Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince and also a white doo-rag wearing Marshall Mathers.. Who would this cop profile more? I say Eminem

A bullet for each Bold part.
  • Do you really think state counties or towns go and help others so easily? They wont invest much money on places people think will be bad and not go to. And Black neighboorhoods are considered bad due to the negative association with blacks with crime
  • You don't think black schools provide things like buses, after school programs, or blacks can get or have scholarships, Granted they're not always in plentiful supply due to school budgets but its not non existent. And overall you make it sound like black people can't do shit for our damn lives.
  • So you didn't pay attention to school much but at least can read and write have a job? What are you trying to imply? Have you even been to a black neighborhood
  • You're really not doing a great job at not judging people with these comments you're posting.

LMAO

Either you are trolling or incredibly obtuse.

The guy whose father was "mistaken" for Dominican drug lord was dressed well in a nice car.

Clearly, he fit the description of Eminem...

So the guy who "acts black" according to many.

Its kinda bad that you have you to go so far out of your way to not look threatening as a black guy to be honest.

Surely you see the problems with this line of thinking

I wanted to deconstruct this, but I realized that this is some pretty masterful trolling

Now let's all go work on our speaking skills

How does a post about helping out any neighborhood in (significant) need turn into a negative thing. I agree that black (or any minority) get shit on every day for no reason. But when I witness entire slums continuing to chose poverty over help and challenge that, or offer a solution I am still the bad guy?

I have never even heard of a situation where a white person has had 911 called on them for simply being in a predominantly black neighborhood. For black people it's common.

What are you trying to say with your vague-enough-to-be-meaningless second paragraph? What entire slums are continuing to choose poverty over help? Give actual examples. And after you give examples, then make an actual point, i.e. are you trying to say that other races when put in the exact same position would have reacted differently? If not, what exactly are you trying to say?

I wouldn't expect "Eminem" to be pulled over before "Carlton" in a nice car.
Well I don't know what to say

I'm sure we both have anecdotal evidence that supports our claims but when it comes to actual statistics I don't feel it is complete bc I don't think there are studies out there that incorporate manners or style into the findings

WHATEVER THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS COPS ARE USING IS RACIST. As reflected by statistics. Whether it's actual skin color, or "guy wearing baggy clothes" or "talking using ebonics" or whatever the fuck manners/style. When blacks are getting arrested disproportionately with respect to actual crime levels, and it's prolonged and systemic, that is by definition racist.

Typical.

Oh I like the sexual stereotypes. If I'm hanging out with a white girl she obviously is into black men and I'm obviously into white girls.

Or when I'm hanging out with a white girl alone and she makes jokes about how (we should keep it down, we don't want anybody thinking anything) Psh Im like if thats how you are and they are, maybe they should be thinking that lol.

Everyone is ignoring the vandalism. I agree the sleeping part is fucked up.
The neighborhoods on N 4th between 11th heading south were often scary places for me. Gun shots, swat teams, developments ruined etc.
Any race that doesn't take advantage of help, or willingly doesn't try to change anything.

I am sorry if I am being ignorant and/or obtuse. But these are my experiences. I care about people, and know that I am probably blind to a lot. My hockey coach is black, and I grew up with him between 14-20. I had a co-worker that was black and called until I reached him after Katrina because I knew he moved there.

If I am being unsympathetic, I really do apologize.

You did not actually respond to my post. Here it is again if you want to answer my questions:

What entire slums are continuing to choose poverty over help? Give actual examples. And after you give examples, then make an actual point, i.e. are you trying to say that other races when put in the exact same position would have reacted differently? If not, what exactly are you trying to say?

I find it hilarious there is a vocal minority? that make it their duty to try and mitigate the truth of obvious racism towards blacks. Any amount of surface research would show how asymmetric black people are treated compared to whites.
