Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Yeah this is pretty much the AAA month of the Vita. Also why is Dragons Crown game of the month when it came out in july, august, and soon in october, totally skipping september. Seems strange to go for an older game when Vita gets 2 of the biggest releases this month with Killzone and Rayman.

Game of the month is by PM votes iirc, so it's not completely Noi's fault.

but yeah the title is really a mistake this month seeing the games Vita is getting (and especially after seeing many new Vita owners after the price cut).

I knew it was easier but that's nuts!
.

I think it was a very smart idea really to expand the audience beyond the JRPG hardcore fans, if someone like stories or just doing the "dating/high school sim" and don't really like playing JRPGs (or suck at them) this is for them.

It would be great if Killzone can sell a million and Tearaway can get at least half a million. Not sure if they can do more than that.

I think Gravity Rush did 1.2M last year, to an even smaller (albeit more desperate and hopeful) install base, but it probably hasn't sold more than a few thousand copies since it went free on PS+.

Token... Indie?? "Lovecraftian Wasteland" has now been replaced as most confusing title.

Oh I'm not saying its a bad thing. It's a great idea, one I wish more RPGs would have. I'd play so much more of they had the option.

Game of the Month isn't to showcase new titles. It's determined by voting.

So its just the same popularity poll, each month. Whats the point in calling it game of the month then? Why not vote for games coming out in the particular month instead of older games.

Because we don't actually know how they'll turn out, and some months simply don't have any titles really worth mentioning at all. The intention was to point out games that people might have missed, which is why even an indie like Hotline Miami was able to win one month. Besides, there's already a section for the upcoming games of the month.

A game can only be picked once. It's essentially reflective of the NeoGAF Vita community.

We pick games we like not future games we're really excited about. It's like a communal review that doesn't give scores to games without having played the game.

That is what I am leaning towards. Seems like a good way to sink dozens of hours into a game. How is the difficulty?
It gets easier as you progress, I played it on normal and didn't really have any troubles.

Agreed

Love that new thread smell!

Found out an amazing tactic in Spelunky to take out an un-angry shopkeeper with just a whip. Only costs you one heart but you end up with a shotgun and all the goodies.

It takes some practice to get consistent but I can't imagine not doing it anymore.

If he has a machete, ice ray, or shotgun you can do it without losing any hearts

How do you pull it off with only a whip? I always get hammered no matter what I try.

Also I figured out yesterday that if you trigger the world 1 trap, you can drop a bomb next to the bolder to launch it across the level again.

Okay, in the next poll I wanna vote for Sound Shapes.

I'm thinking now, based on what he said, that he lures the shopkeeper over by picking up the item... which makes him ready to be murderous, but not yet murderous.

I've been getting my ass handed to me in the temple after the ice caverns. It's so nice when I can get Anubis killed by something else (spikes or a block), and I'm even getting good at skirting around him with ropes, but I still don't last very long even after I get his weapon.

I think Gravity Rush did 1.2M last year, to an even smaller (albeit more desperate and hopeful) install base, but it probably hasn't sold more than a few thousand copies since it went free on PS+.

I've been googling it, and in i found it has sold 320.000 retail units. It doesn't count DD sales. I think it could have sold like 500.000 units with digital sales and game being undertracked in the page.

However, I think we will get a sequel. Although being a freebie must have killed its sales, PS+ has given GR a lot of mindshare. Thanks to PS+ I've played games I wouldn't bother to give a try, like Infamous, Arkham City or Kingdoms of Amalur.

Gravity Rush is one of those games loved by the hardcore and ignored by normal people. I hope it could become a million seller. It's one of those games that remind me japanese gaming industry (outside Nintendo) has more to offer that everyone thinks. The last game that make me think like that was Persona 3.

Edit: Lol, I've put a site that aparently is banned and its name was changed for some ****. I will remember it.

What Vita Game should I play next? I have: Gravity Rush, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Guacamelee, Darkstalkers, Knytt Undergroun, Wipeout, Metal Slug XX, and Lego Harry Potter 2.

Sorry, I must have had the # of Vitas sold at the time in my mind and got confused. Poor Gravity Rush.

Really want to scratch my rpg itch and was leaning towards FF4: The Complete Collection. Yay or nay?

Nay for me, the game is very good looking, but i hate that stupid battle system, the time always passes but you can choose you action only after your turn(you can't select the action before your turn), this means that you have to select the character then choose the action, if the action is a spell then you have to browse a long list where the most powerful spells are the last ones in the list(somewhat hilarious when you finally reach the end of the list but you have not enough mana to use the spell lol!), in the meantime the enemies, that obviously have no problems of selection, can act while you are selecting.
Maybe it's just me but i like full real time battle system or full turn based ones, i hate this kind of bad mixes that make the game harder just with controls.
I don't like random encounters too, they seem to be time based, so better move to cover the greater distance between an encounter and the next one.

Ordering those 3 games from Amazon (on top of KZ M and Rayman this month) reminded me how much I still really wish they would remove the 100 app limit already. I have a 32GB card w/ plenty of space, and buy almost every retail game, whenever available. I got rid of a lot of bubbles when the PS+ cloud button got patched in, but even if I had several 32GB cards, retail-release game bubbles are part of the system memory. So when I switch to my 8GB card, all those games are still part of the count, and still on the system. Memory management isn't the problem, so it's not encouraging memory card sales for Sony, and only discourages game sales as well as overall enjoyment.

21 of the apps on my systems are utility apps and most of those can't be deleted... youtube, twitter, facebook and netflix aren't going to get cut. Can't even get rid of Welcome Park. I completely shy away from enjoying stuff like Paint Park or Toro's Friend Network, because it's just another notch in my bubble limit. A good 20% of the games I have are little time wasters that I like to keep on hand... Tetris, Pinball games, Metal Slug, Stardust, Fruit Ninja etc shouldn't have to cut those. I use this thing for light, short-term play as well as heavy stuff, and like to hop between games.

Heads up, Starlight Inception backers.
The PC beta is now out for your enjoyment, and according to a post by EscHatch on the 28th:
We are zeroing in on a PC beta for this weekend...fingers crossed, and are putting the finishing touches on a Beta submission packet for Sony. As soon as the Beta passes approval, we will have Beta keys for the Vita. The Vita version is really cool - with touchscreen capability and accelerometer support and that incredibly crisp little screen, the game is really going to be lots of fun.

Vita beta sounds like it'll be coming out soon!

KZM need a FOV slider tho, with Vita close to my face it's like Dead Island all over again, It give me an awful headache every time I play the beta.

Eh, I disagree. I haven't seen anybody who actually hates GR, but many (myself included) see it as extremely flawed. And I'd hate to describe myself as "hardcore" (since I have other hobbies), but I do play games often.

Dustforce for Vita?
Is this real life?

Fuck. Yes.

Edit:
It should have a single gold trophy for getting S on all levels.

Also, EDF online is definitely dead. A few months ago, people would join a few minutes after I hosted a game, but now nothing.

Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.
