Washington Post calls GameCube "obsolete", recommends PS2/Xbox for Holiday gifts...

HERE is the article from The Washington Post (register to view!), it's rather short, but here's the gist...

This year, things are different. One console, the Nintendo GameCube, is clearly obsolete, with a diminishing supply of new titles. The other two -- PlayStation 2 and Xbox -- are far more competitive. After years of steady work by Microsoft to improve the Xbox's capabilities and the support from its developers -- getting Electronic Arts to write games for its Xbox Live online service this year was a huge coup for Redmond -- the Xbox is now the PS2's equal. Sony's console still offers far more titles, including plenty of PS2-only titles (like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), but the Xbox delivers better graphics and has quite a few exclusive games of its own these days, such as Halo 2.

"While others are talking, Nintendo is acting. Let me ask you a question: what company right now is driving category sales? If you said someone other than Nintendo, you're wrong. We have momentum -- have had it since late last year, and if you don't feel it yet, you will. I promise you that." Reggie

Yeah, I mean so what if GameCube only has three or four more games coming out!

... They're good games!

It's true, there is nothing to keep the mainstream gamer on the cube. IMO saying the XBOX is equal to PS2 is the far more shocking news delievered by this journalist.

Nintendo can't compete with the new Xbox bundle/Halo 2 and PS2 with the new DBZ game and I'm sure there will be more money earned for R* with copies of SA under the Xmas tree.

Incidentally, this has nothing to do with the games, the Cube has an extremely large library of AAA games, and some gems have come out recently.

This is about the incompetence of NOA. REGGIE AM CRY

I should stop enjoying Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2. I might as well sell my GC... no point waiting to play Paper Mario 2, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Donkey Konga, Jungle Beat, Resident Evil 4, Zelda 2005, Star Fox, TLoZ: Four Swords, or Fire Emblem GC (some games aren't released in Australia yet or I still need to buy them) when the GameCube is "obsolete".[/hive defence]

No it's about the mainstream gamer. There is no exclusive driving, shooting or sports game on the Cube - that does not future Mario or one of his friends. Still there are more than enough good games out (and coming out) for the Cube, if you happen to like Nintendo games. If you don't then the Cube is not for you.

The situation is actually pretty good for gamers, except that you have to buy three consoles. There is something for everyone.

Extremely large? Subjective. Large enough to make this Nintendo whore have about two-dozen games on his when-I-get-money list? Sure.

400 games is not bad for the most d00med console of the three.

Uh the poster said "the Cube has an extremely large library of AAA games"

There's a difference between total # of games in the library and total # that are AAA.

I think it's a stretch to say that the Cube has an extremely large library of AAA games.... the Cube does have a large library of games though, the Cube has a library of AAA games, each slightly different statements.

Nintendo seems like that redheaded stepchild that everyone leaves out of functions and picks on for being different. It's funny how developers talk about the next generation of consoles and nary a mention of Nintendo. Makes you wonder why they really want to drive Nintendo out of the home console game. Maybe Yamauchi slept with a few of their wives back in the NES days and it's payback time now. :lol

Someone censor this fool until I can offload my Gamecube :)

If YOU are in the market for a Gamecube and several games. PM me with your price range (I will handle shipping) and we can negotiate :)

I guess our definitions of AAA differ. Don't get me wrong, I'm a multiconsole owner (well, technically I only own a PS2 atm, sold my PAL Cube when I moved to North America) But I'm not having the same amount of fun playing my PS2 as I did with the GC, and there is more then a dozen AAA games I need to get when I get an NTSC Cube.

I'll give you $5 plus shipping. Straight up. It's better than what you'll get at EB.
