Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

There's no way they're going make a statement like that. If anything is said, it will be far more diplomatic and spun as a positive. Something like the technology they've developed specifically for Watch_Dogs scales to take advantage of the strengths of different platforms.

To make too blunt a statement publicly concerning such a high-profile product (especially when it's new IP and hasn't be proven) could even go as far as affecting Ubisoft's stock price.

Definitely makes sense, didn't really think about that. I think I'm just more annoyed by the comment that it hadn't been scaled back. They should have just stayed quiet about it. I mean hopefully the trailer is just shit and when the game actually comes out it will look close to what it once did but I won't be holding my breath.

I was never interested in this title—not because it wasn't technically impressive at the time, but due to my dislike for anything associated with UbiSoft.

Having said that, I'm not surprised by the downgrades and poor quality of Watch Dogs. The problems therein are reflective of UbiSoft's repertoire.

Fortunately, I won't be falling for this "bait and switch."

While I agree it looks downgraded from the 2013 E3 stuff, need to see more for final judgement, but to compare to the 2012 showing is not fair. That was a tech demo of their game, and never once did they say,, that I can remember that this was how the ps4 or xbone will look like.

Doesn't matter, it won't even look like that on a PC.

It's like people are ignoring how 360/PS3 games actually looked

Resolution apart, there haven't been major advancements in graphics on the new consoles. As it is early on I will give them a chance, but do feel the constant comparison with PC games this generation is just plain ridiculous.

Perhaps I was expecting too much? Perhaps it's time I got on board the PC train instead?

They could just do a livestream of the gameplay segment shown in the 2012 reveal and put this to rest. But I guess there will still be skeptics.

That's shocking to me. It doesn't even come close to looking as good as it did back when it was originally revealed. The driving portions of that trailer look horrible, doesn't even look good even on last gen standards. It's cool you can't see it though, but it's totally obvious to me and about 95% of everyone in this thread.
Well I think those who are claiming an 'obvious downgrade' have been fooled by the extremely careful scripting and choice of locations and conditions in the initial reveal.

Looking at the original footage again the gameplay begins with a lovely bokeh blend to focus. You wouldn't normally get that when walking down the street, but they did it for cinematic effect - it immediately gives that 'next gen' feel. The bokeh is highlighted by a very carefully-placed sun, which is glinting through the trees. There is also a building with loads of individual lights to the right - all of these small light sources are ideal for showing off bokeh.

Your eye then looks down the street. The sun glints off the surface. There are long shadows, it's windy, stuff is moving around. Ideal lighting conditions. This was all shown in the 2013 footage, that was also claimed to be a 'downgrade'.

Once you leave the party, it's night time, and chucking it down. There is loads of scripted stuff kicking off, light sources carefully placed once again to show reflective wet surfaces. Again there is bokeh used in the firefight, very effective in the rain.

Now to the recent footage. It's midday sun, hardly any wind. No rain is shown. It's not tightly scripted like the initial reveal. 'OMG DOWNGRADEZ'

I just don't get it.

I wonder if the day will ever come when core gamers realize we're not the market that companies are advertising to or spending, hiring and developing strategies around. We're the minority. The masses have no idea any of this goes on during development. There's going to be a CGI trailer in May that will air leading up to the World Cup and that's what the majority of the buying public will use to justify their purchase.

Just do it. Don't make a scene out of it.

The second meaning on this website holds up quite well, however after posting it I felt that it was uncalled for to sink to such a level and therefore edited it.

Neckbeard.

Now that's out of the way! You made me and others in this thread upset by being a grammar nazi for absolutely no reason at all, it was uncalled for and you are still carrying it on with me.

I can happily dance with you all day but if you cannot understand that what you said was out of order there is absolutely no hope for you.

See, you kept carrying on with me, not the other way around. I perfectly understood your neckbeard reference. First you called my pointing out incorrect grammar "an insult", then you went on to refer to me as a nerd with poor personal hygene:

(as per your own link.)

Next you call me a "grammar nazi". Now if those aren't insults, then what is? Good going, chap.

I don't quite agree with this. Put Gears of War and Ryse side by side...The difference is pretty damn big. Put Halo 4 and Killzone SF...Near ubiquitous high res textures make a huge difference in the console space. Granted PCs have been doing that for a while, but geometry and plethora of other techniques are no being upped away from last gen shackles...

Guns are in games because they are a simple mechanic for engaging players. There are tons of articles and videos on it. I think Extra Credits has a pretty decent one on it.

It's interesting, check it out.

It's not about the game itself, but about the type of game I was expecting it to be which was more of a tactical open world game-- rather than just another GTA. I just thought others would be interested in the article.

Pot-kettle blah blah

Anybody catch the kotaku article: http://kotaku.com/the-disappointment-of-video-game-guns-1538151848

What happened to this game?
This kind of gets at what's been bothering me.

I hope I'm not alone, in hating the new Aiden character. Not design so much, as personality. He used to be a guy who went to far trying to protect his family, pushing them away as he became Batman, to where it seemed like even his colleagues aren't supposed to trust him. Now he's Max Payne with a phone. And who thought his new voice was alright?

If you cant see any major improvement s in the likes of KZ:SF . I:SS or RYSE over PS3/360 then I am afraid that even the PC is going to disappoint you.

The generation is 5 months old.

I just don't get it.

When all the previous footage had such things in every shot, and none of the current footage does, it's logical to presume that such things have been taken out of the game.

That doesn't mean they have, of course, but when lots of people look at something and they all conclude it looks worse, it's not them, but the footage.

I will laugh my ass off if this game turns out great and looks amazing.

I would simply buy it without throwing it back in a person's face. There was a time like so many others that I was excited about the game.

I'd be happy to be wrong about my current feelings/opinions on it. But as has been mentioned, the evidence of typical Ubisoft dishonesty is all there.

Come on, games like Infamous have already shown major advancements.

Perhaps I was expecting too much? Perhaps it's time I got on board the PC train instead?

Yes, you should join us.

You're better off not making that kind of joke here.

Hmm, I was making myself a fool by creating a really stupid stereotype, not trying to demean anyone but me. I guess Finnish humor is a bit dark and harsh. Cheer up. :)

But the point in all honesty is actually valid. She's doing her job, that's what PR people do, they sell the product. No need to attack her, she probably has no idea what's been happening with the game.

I will be very happy if what has really happened here, is that they cut together an awful trailer that makes the game look a lot worse than it really is, but if that's the case I won't feel like I need to apologize to them or anything.

Because if indeed they managed to cut around all the environmental details they never failed to include before, that's entirely their fault. It's not my job to only watch footage that represents the game well. If they release footage that makes it look shit, and I think it looks shit as a result...

that's not my problem or my fault.

When they say nothing has been downgraded, maybe they mean that all the graphical effects found in the E3 reveal are still present in the game. Now, given that the game was demoed on a 680, naturally the consoles won't be able to match that graphical spec, but perhaps there's still hope that the PC version will be able to match the reveal trailer.

At which point they could quite accurately claim that nothing was downgraded.

does sleeping dogs look like that in game. serious question as i never played it.
if so, does it play anything like shenmue?

Yeah it does look like that, it's basically GTA esque, missions on the map, sidequests with arkham style combat. The game does look a lot rougher in the daytime though, pretty no doubt but the night scenes really bring out the best in the game graphically.
