What we know about Legend of Zelda Wii prior to E3 2010

I have never skipped a cutscene yet, but I have never enjoyed one either. He doesn't want to waste time not enjoying himself, so what's the problem?

Not you, the one I responded to :p.

And the problem is using your unique lack of care for cutscenes and storytelling as a point for not including them in the next game.

Don't care? Fine, no problem. But understand you are an anomaly, not the norm.

The people who care about caring for characters and what they do in a game.

If pick-up-and-play, "who care about who does what and why in a game" has become the norm here, then I'm both wrong and disheartened. And nude.

Seriously, I hope Nintendo knocks this one out of the park. I want to see something awesome here. After E3, I want to be able to say that Zelda was the best looking game at the show and easily my most anticipated upcoming game. I want whatever kind of footage they show to leave me intrigued and compelled by the world on display and counting down the days until I can explore it myself.

I'd say, considering how they're treating their IPs lately (Punch Out, Galaxy, Other M) that they are really trying to step up their game exponentially.
Zelda Wii is going to be something special.

There's a checklist of thread titles we made up that basically sum up my own predictions to what the backlash will be.

I wouldn't necessarily count my chickens as far as positive hands-on impressions just yet. I mean, it is Zelda and it'll be ground to a brilliant polish, but there is the possibility that the gameplay won't be quite there yet.

I do predict whining about the art style, theme and placement of the game if it's an obvious sequel to some previous game though.

zelda complaint bingo time!

dumbed down
graphical style
no voice acting
no orchestrated music
sequel to x game
too much motion control (looks tiring)

I'm leaning towards the Zelda after this one to be the big thing (and the real Zelda to come out of the Wii wave).

It seems like, for the most part, all these games including Galaxy and NSMBW are some sort of experiments. I think Zelda Wii development started too early for it to be one of those (or the result of those). For the most part I expect it to be another Zelda with motion controls, and the next one to be the big difference for the series.

It could just be an automatic shield against disappointment though.

Do it, for real. Someone make a bingo. 4x4.

I'll probably be swimming in semen myself regardless.

Eh, Zelda Wii development really didn't start all that much earlier than SMG development did.
I mean, remember, they already had Galaxy playable at E3 06.

Yeah but Galaxy was made after Sunshine (and NSMB, more importantly) while Zelda Wii was made after TP. I just don't see Nintendo trying the Galaxy treatment with it.
I don't really have any argument here, so don't make me think up reasons why I think this way.

HEY YOU WANNA FIGHT MUSTARD BREATH? I HAVE ALL 8 BADGES. *throws gcn limited edition zelda disc at you*

Well, we already know that they're going to be changing up the formula, so it may not be as big of a innovation as Galaxy, but I think it'll surprise people.

galaxy was innovation?

In the sense that it took the platforming genre, turned it on its head, and showed the gaming world how to make a game with nothing but pure imagination and fun... yeah. Yeah it was.

These were the shots of "Zelda 64" that left my mind reeling when I was in middle school just anticipating the fuck out of this game:

Let's just say that Nintendo really knew how to push my buttons during this time. I really hope what they show of the next Zelda will invoke similar feelings of ecstasy :lol

Iron Knuckle's first 3D appearance:

And this one reminded me of the little places where you got the Triforce shards in the original, after killing a dungeon boss:

Oh come on, those are not contradictory.
You really mean:

not enough to do in the overworld
too much time spent in the overworld
not enough side quests
too much emphasis on useless side quests instead of the main story
not enough story elements
too much story crap
way too easy dungeons/puzzles with too simple hints
puzzles/rooms/dungeons x and y are impossible

Oh eff off you effing effer . . .

(wanted to say something else but I just came across that today lol)

I wonder how much of what we think we know will be proven entirely wrong next week. I read through a few older Twilight Princess threads after I'd beaten the game and it was kind of funny reading some of the predictions, including people who were adamant that Hyrule would flood at the end because they saw a screen of one of the
wolf song bits and mistook the low-hanging mist in the Golden Realm for water
.

That TP spoiler thread was a top read. It was full of spoiler text since sprsk (then sp0rsk) had to mod it, but he didn't want to be spoiled either. Some of the things people posted in there are funny to look back on now.

I want this to be true so badly :(

I remember when the second Twilight Princess trailer came out and people were looking at the moon near the end of it trying to find a face that looked like the one in Majora's Mask. It was all great fun to read. Though, I think we all care about the story far more than the fine folks at Nintendo do.

The one with the wolf howling at the end? :lol Those would have been fun times to join in on the speculation (at that point, I'd only ever played aLttP and was far more interested in Metroid than I was in Zelda).

Meh, I forgot dungeon themes existed. You reminded me how much I despise the enemy music. There isn't a single Zelda with good normal enemy music.

How can you enjoy a temple when every 2 seconds you hear this piece of shit:

And it's not like you hear this whole thing, either. It's basically the first 3 seconds of it over and over.

I thought majora's was decent.
The only one I actually bothered to listen through while playing.

Come to think of it, MM's music was pretty inspired over all.

On the other hand, mini boss themes always rock:

Maybe it's because I love the game's world so much but I loved Majora's Mask's art.

Oh and yum at this Twilight Princess artwork. It doesn't give much of a fantasy vibe but it sure is pretty.

I didn't dislike the artwork... it just felt like it was trying to hard to convey the popular anime look with a splash of darkness.
Well then it was executed amazingly and I want it back.

Wait.

So you´re implying that the player cannot grow to feel for npcs or care for the ingame-world if there are no cutscenes? Well, you´re 100% wrong.
