What we know about Legend of Zelda Wii prior to E3 2010

Eeeewwwwwww I don't like that. It feels straight out of an 80's cartoon. I think the best solution would be that almost every weapon had combat use and make them actually useful.

Spirit Tracks used very few items, but for the most part, you're still just using the sword and the items are only being used for specific puzzles.

I'd like to see a Link's Awakening style item system. But... I doubt it has even a tiny chance of happening, given the whole OMG SWORD WIIMOTE HHRRAANNNGHHH thing.

Honestly, I hope so.
An upgrade to the inventory system is much appreciated.
That would hardly be an upgrade, don't you think? I mean, the idea is nice an all, but it would be merely a cosmetic change, in my opinion.

What if we could get something similar to the masks from MM? Imagine link having some sort of artifact that transforms him into different creatures each with an array of powers that enable link to traverse the dungeons/overworld and solve puzzles. Like turning into something akin to a spider in order to stick to walls, walk on the ceiling and shoot a hookshot-like web. But I don't mean link-spiderman, I mean him actually morphing into a spider-like creature, extra legs and all. Or transforming into a feline creature for extra speed, agility, jumping and even stealth. Then there are aerial creatures, water creatures, etc. He could change into a gorilla for extra brute force (the equivalent of the power gauntlet), or a rodent to be able to squeeze through the tiniest holes.

:lol I bet you guys are glad I'm not a game designer :lol

So the game will be a real wii title... ok, I guess I will have to deal with that. When I first saw Wind Waker (at Spaceworld 2001, was it?) I had a total case of "WTF?" going on. Then, I played it and loved it. After that I promised I would never question Shiggy again. So I won't when I see him waving his hands around on stage. I'll just take a stiff drink, look myself in the mirror, cry a little, and go buy a wii.

Not having to go into your menu, scroll to items, and set an item to a button...
Instead, you press a single button, and switch items on the fly.
That would allow for quicker, more robust combat and less tedium.
Fairly large upgrade, I'd say.

What else were you expecting it to come out on, exactly?
The 360?

Nintendo would shoot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about E3 (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in normal press conferences where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over at E3, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the online public, after not hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Zelda for their Wii, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo would alienate an entire market with this move.

Nintendo, publicly announce and show Zelda for Wii or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Not expecting, just hoping. I've been hoping a terrible scandal would force Nintendo to go third party for the last 8 years. I'm not sure what course of events would set that in motion, but I imagine there's a way.

The only problem of Nintendo being third party would be that they wouldn't make that great games then.. since Hardware and Software work together.

Because there are no great games made by third parties?

AceBandage said:
What Boney means is that Nintendo creates its hardware for its games.
They make it so that they can get the most out of it.

Well Twilight Princess worked on two consoles, so I think they'd be ok making games for the 360 or PS3. I know it's not going to happen, but I don't think the quality of games would drop at all.

I don't see why TP or WW couldn't have been made on either of the other last gen consoles.
because it was nintendo's game

why don't sony and microsoft just quit making consoles and develop pc only!?!??!

I wish there was just one console. It's stupid to have three.

Don't let Nintendo fool you into thinking they need to make hardware for their software to live up to its full potential. That's like when a dealership tells you that only they can change your oil. Freaking Jiffy Lube can change your oil just fine. Maybe that's not the best analogy ever, but oh well. That's what you're getting from me right now.

Wish in one hand and crap in the other.
See which one fills up first.

No widescreen and longer loading = better?
:p
Free camera, non-mirrored, instant swordplay, Epona backflip.

Never cared about widescreen and I was fine with the loading times. But I think the Wii version doesn't have the framedrops the NGC one has.

It's not that it wouldn't be a feasible thing to do. Rather than it was easier to develop these titles than it would be on another console for them, andit doesn't necesarily mean graphical prowess.

Iwata and other Nintendo engineers have stated that is on of their biggest advantages in creating titles.

Wait a minute, wtf is going on here.

...Someone not understanding why Nintendo makes games exclusively for a Nintendo system?

Jesus, I understand why. And I'm not saying I think it will ever change, or that I'm waiting for it to. I just know that it would be better for everyone except Nintendo and people who get aroused by their sales.

I only owned Nintendo consoles until last gen when I owned both a gamecube and PS2. Now I only have a 360. I'd like to be able to play Zelda without having to buy a whole other console. Yes it's unrealistic. I know that. Now I will end my derailment of this thread and go off to yell at my TV while playing MW2.

We're approaching the 1 year anniversary of this meme.

My one wish for the new Zelda is that is has nothing to do with the wii-mote. How likely is it that I will get my way?
By new Zelda, do you by chance mean the GC version of Twilight Princess?

I miss the one post trend of talking about the Gamecube controller and how great it was in this thread.

I think his weapon is basically a magical sword that can turn into any weapon/tool.

So the sword can turn into the bow, the hookshot, the boomrang, etc., or at least do equivalent functions as those tools. This is because the player never actually changes input device (always the Wiimote) so in the same way Link never actually changes weapon, especially since you have 1-1 control between the Wiimote and the sword.

To it will be more immersive in that regard because in a way, you are always holding "the sword", it just changes based on how you want to use it.

This is what I thought when the painting was shown last year, though I assume it's some magic, and there are no actual items. The fairy princess probably follows you around like Navi or Midna, and turns into a sword/bow/hookshot whenever you need it.

GameCube version also lacks the following:

- Infrared aiming
- Over-the-shoulder camera
- Four item slots
- Uninterrupted weapon scrolling
- Locked frame rate
- The ability to aim freely while strafing/steering Epona

...does this really affect much? i like widescreen, but put down TP around the water temple or so, and am looking to give it another go on GC next week after whatever announcement we get...cant say inverted dungeons made too big a deal, but i wasnt digging the controls. 1:1 zelda i think i could get behind, though.
