What's your "price ceiling" for the next-gen systems?

I was a broke college student in 2005/2006 my ceiling then was $299.99

Now $500 easy

That's nuts that some of you are willing to pay 500-600+ dollars for games console.

the PS3 was $1000 at launch in Australia. I bought a PS3 in 2010 and it was still $599. $600 at launch seems like a bargain in comparison.

I should add that even more important than price is the games. I won't buy any console that doesn't have at least 8 exclusives I'm interested in, DD+retail, no matter how cheap it is.

$800.

For a console that will last me 10+ years, IE we will be playing this in 2023, I think that is a fair investment. (vs an iPad or iPhone that people like to upgrade yearly/biyearly)

Could very well be the last classic "game console" generation ever.

I paid full price for a PS3 in 2007 but that had the incentive of a bluray player.

Without that incentive, I'll say $499 knowing what the hardware is probably going to be.

I'd jump to $599 for an 88XX equivalent though.

32GB iPad $599
32GB iPhone $749
32GB iPod Touch $299
Nokia Lumia 920 $599
Samsung Galaxy S3 $649

PS3 $299
360 $299
Wii-U $349
Vita $249.99
3DS XL $219

Looking at the prices of current gadget prices, I really can't see them being at the very best , cheaper than $400

£450 for the console and 2 games and a controller and additional accessories, might push it up an extra £20

150 bucks max. No desire to own one until they are cheap. I have a high end gaming PC for my video game needs.

$499 for me.

But thats like just barely. I also have to consider 13% tax. Really, it would be the flip of a coin.

$450 and I bite instantly.

400 Lats = 800 $

Simple math is whatever costs 400 $ in the US costs 400 in Lats here ;P, almost usually...

and that is an average monthly salary

$399.99 and nothing more. Will not join the next gen until it reaches that point, i just can't justify spending anymore than that.

Probably $600 for the hardware, otherwise I'd just be tempted to upgrade my computers GPU. I'm not likely getting the next Xbox anyways until Microsoft shows off some interesting new exclusives. I can live without Halo and Gears next gen.

To be honest, I don't really care. I can afford whatever they will price it at , they just need to have the games ready for day one to get my money.

My price limit is $599 for a PS4. If this generation is any indication of next generation, it'll be a solid investment in my entertainment future. If PS+ continues its trend of being absolutely amazing, it'll be a bargain at that price.

$500. I wasn't willing to go above $400 last gen, but I can't expect systems to stay at this price (or lower) with inflation.

Depends on what's in them.
Large HDD, some flash memory for the OS to be fast, uber gpu and fancy cpu , good build quality, quiet = I'd pay 500 euros.

As less of the above applies the price will drop accordingly, current rumored specs with a 500GB hdd I'd pay maybe 350 if theres no shitty gimmicks and depending on the build quality of the thing.

With a tiny HDD maybe 300.

Console games are way too pricy compared to pc ones so I have little incentive to pony up much money for the hardware, I'll only use them for the exclusives anyhow.

I do not intend to spend more than 400€ at launch, if i have to wait then i'll wait until ican buy the console within the range of 300-350€.

$350, maybe $400 if there's compelling software, and both figures are big maybes as I may prefer just to wait until they're $300 and a lot of great games are out.

Depends on what they'd offer at launch. Being primarily a PC gamer I couldn't care enough until some strong exclusives are ready.
Also depends on the tech we'd be getting.

For a PS3 with the rumored specs and games like Uncharted 4 and God of War 4 available at launch, up to 500€.

If not (as will probably be the case), I'll simply wait for the games even if it's at 300€. A price drop would make no difference for me until these or similar quality exclusive games are available.

$499 tops for the "premium" version, though I'll still probably wait until the 2014 holidays to pick anything up, need to give them time to shore up the libraries first before jumping in

I'd go higher than $399 if they are backwards compatible and could replace a system. Otherwise I can wait till the library expands and the price drops.

I'm not planning on buying right away but I'd say $400 max. Maybe a little more if there's something really amazing.

$400.

Having said that, unless I see something absolutely amazing at launch (Forza 5, for example) I'm probably going to wait until the consoles dip below $300.

£300 for PS4.

There's no new disc medium being force-fed like CD, DVD or BR (not that i'm complaining for any reason other than price).

The hardware is probably pretty conservative after the PS3 development difficulties, "599 US DOLLARS" and Sony being in trouble.

There is no gimmick controller (I hope) eating up a lot of their budget.

Everything should be more open in this day and age so we shouldn't have to pay a chunk of money for a bloated or proprietary HDD. I have my own thanks and you don't need 320gb in a games console.

As I don't live in a developed country, I have no choice but to wait. Probably will buy when it hits the equivalent of $600.00 here... and that will take some time. The WiiU currently costs $700.00 around here.
