I remember feeling like this last gen.J-Rzez said:You can stick to believe that, but I don't... Not since devs are releasing near mirror ports this gen... Ports aren't like last gen with PS2, GC, and Xbox games all looking distinctively different in the end... Plus, why would they ignore a larger userbase with the combined sales of PS3 and 360? When games like Fatal Inertia were pulled, it was because of the UE that was causing grief... If that's sorted out, like it should end up being, then there's no reason not to port it over to another couple million users out there... This isn't a slaughterhouse like last gen just yet, and the games still early...
Jtrizzy said:all of this talk about the PS3 being done for seems silly and immature to me. I guess it's just the nature of the industry.

"Why doesn't Capcom port Devil May Cry and Onimusha over to the Gamecube? Sales of REmake shows that the market is there! Do they not like money?
That sucked.

How In The F**K Did The Wii Win?
Vyer said:If the $400 PS3 rumor turns out to be true - especially the 'by this Christmas' part - it'll certainly give the system a boost.
Segata Sanshiro said:If we assume success/failure to be a 1/0 proposition, then in near-certain likelihood the PS3 will have failed in these ways:
- Maintaining Sony's marketshare of the home console market
- Coming even close to the absolute numbers of its grandpappy and pappy
- Having a library of equal breadth and depth the PS1 and PS2 enjoyed
In near-certain likelihood the PS3 will have succeeded in these ways:
- Trojan horse to push Bluray into being the dominant HD video format
- Having a good enough library to justify the cost and entertain owners of the system
I think from Sony's perspective, the PS3 thus far is a 50/50. Ideally I'm certain they wanted to nab the HD video market whilst maintaining a majority marketshare. In contrast, the worst case scenario would have been losing their gaming marketshare and failing to solidify Bluray as the HD format of choice. Things could have been worse and they could have been better.
I think a Bluray victory in the HD market is a certainty. As to whether it was worth torching their games business, well, time will tell. The HD market has a lot of growing to do before that cost/benefit ratio looks good.Tobor said:This is not even close to being a certainty yet. The sub $200 players will decide the war, not the PS3.
I do agree with everything else you wrote.

I am not entirely disinclined to not disagree with you.Pureauthor said:Big fish in a two-inch deep puddle. I believe (read: hope) that DVDs remain the format of choice for the masses.

I really hope so.TEH-CJ said:that being said..
Killzone 2, GT5, mgs4 , resistance 2, uncharted and the other big titles really need to be AAA titles for the ps3 to start sticking with 360.
ps3 cant really afford any more flops from now on...especially when halo 3 is just around the corner.
You could fill one with any given system wars thread around here.Tobor said:We haven't had an entire book written on the subject before, have we?

Makes sense. I'm not actually human. I'm just an AI based on Markov chains.Tobor said::lol I actually said that earlier in the thread. Full circle. I'm going to sleep.
That is the best fucking haiku I've ever read.60_gig_PS3 said:underestimating the competition and arrogance
was Sony's downfall.
It didn't have to be this way.
Barnolde said:Why wouldn't it be? Unless the title is going to be 360/PC only. As the current situation shows porting from 360 -> PS3 is a clusterfuck, so if they need a title for both, why not start on PS3 where it's easier to port over?

StevieP said:Sony said so, so it must be true! Here's a hint: systems that are third lose support. Systems that lose support don't last. Doesn't matter how "technologically sound" they are. If you're the loser, you're going to get your next system out at the same time or before everyone else, as to attempt a 'fresh start'.
MercuryLS said:That's true, but still this thread will be filled with the same ol' arguments that people have been regurgitating for the last 2 years. We're not getting anywhere with this, best to just sit back and let everything pan out. I think Sony is in a terrible position this gen, I've made various posts explaining my views on their strategy...I don't think it's healthy for this board to constantly beat this topic to death, it just hardens gamers hearts and turns more fans into fanboys.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The Playstation 3 is going to be in marketing textbooks in the paragraph after New Coke. If a book appeals to the business-heads, it'll find a home.Diablos said:207 page book?
Look, if PS3 seriously does fail, nobody's going to read a book -- they'll just talk about it on gaming discussion forums for years to come.
