Why does everyone fear Controller innovation?

SNES - shoulder buttons

Nintendo 64 - Rumble pack and Analog stick

GameCube - well maybe not so advanced ;)

Revolution... just imagine the possibilities!

Yes Nintendo will give us all a standard controller as well :-)

This new idea is interesting, but playing Soul Calibur 4 or Madden 2007 would be impossible huh?

Would you people just fucking stop already, there is a sticky thread for this shit, so use it and stop spamming threads about the wonder remote already, especially when you have absolutely nothing to contribute.

Nintendo should of just came out with an attachment to put on your dick. Then I least could have some fun swinging something around in the air.

Well I'd say it's because most people generally fear change and the Revolution controller is offering just that. Will consumers fear this change too? I see the Japanese consumers as being most open to change and North American ones hating change the most.

Time will tell...

SHOULD HAVE GODDAMMIT!...Or if you prefer "should've".

Sorry to get all grammar Nazi but damn.

Not like this thread is good for anything else.

The shoulder buttons and analog sticks were natural evolutions. The touch pad and magic wand are lateral developments at best, and non-sequiturs at worst. They should both be optional.

Innovation should always expand upon current functionality, not replace it.

But that's evolution, not innovation.

Innovation : (noun)
1: a creation (a new device or process) resulting from study and experimentation [syn: invention]
2: the creation of something in the mind [syn: invention, excogitation, conception, design]
3: the act of starting something for the first time; introducing something new; "she looked forward to her initiation as an adult"; "the foundation of a new scientific society"; "he regards the fork as a modern introduction" [syn: initiation, founding, foundation, institution, origination, creation, introduction, instauration]

Personally I don't see what the big deal is. Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are two other consoles, remember?

Unless of course you're the next try-hard Drinky/MAF where all you're concerned about is riling up fanboys and causing a 5 page thread of hate.

That's bullshit. However, the Revolution controller is not a good replacement for normal controllers.

The touch pad and magic wand are lateral developments at best, and non-sequiturs at worst. They should both be optional.

I think it's fine that the controller is standard because the system itself is optional (ie, not PS3).

Why do people keep missing the fact that the Revolution can be put into a sort of traditional-controller-caddy?

It IS an option.
Its NOT replacing anything.

More options, new and different alternatives = good.

If you don't like what you see, even after you've tried it, fair enough. Everything else in the meantime is just joining in on Drinky's foreplay before: it gets released, he buys one, and he posts a hilarious/controversial thread (creating a pool of people to ban if he sees fit... assuming Admin Drinky is unbanned now too).

The revolution controller makes playing most types of games almost impossible. You can come up with possible controll schemes but pointing a remote controll or leaning one way or another will never be as accurate or functional as an analog stick and some buttons.

The trouble is that the "traditional" (what does THAT mean) controller is an OPTION and the iPod Tinkerbell wand is the DEFAULT. It's like getting a PS2 with the EyeToy default and having to snag a DualShock on the side -- it forces devs to make games for the EyeToy first and foremost, with the DS2 as a potentially unsupported peripheral. Some of play GAMES for the abstraction, not the supposed immersion -- and to us, a controller with established and time-tested utility is more appealing then one that replicated a limited set of physical metaphors.
