Why is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is not even in the conversation for Game of the year?

It may not be a GOTY but it is still a great game and especially so if you are an Indy fan.

Personally I enjoyed it quite a bit and was pleasantly surprised. To be fair I expected it to be more of Veilguard or Avowed level game and instead got a very competently done and fun game with right Indy vibes.

It's not the first time I see someone saying it's kinda like an imm-sim. Honestly, if that's the case, lots of props to MS for allowing it.

Its basically IM Sim changed a bit to be more appealing to a wider audience.

I would have preferred if it was fully simulation based.

As is, its a mashup of different genres, best way to play it depends on player. I enjoyed it like a Skyrim lite, exploring with reckless abandon.
 
Was a really good game, and probably worthy of a nomination or two. Won't win a thing though.

Definitely appeals more to the age group that grew up with Indy - makes it easier to gloss over the obvious flaws.

Don't see many outlets writing their nominations yet, the one that we did get so far does have it in the GoTY noms.

It largely is the release date where it has the opposite of recency bias, and I think the game isn't what people wanted from the IP, even if it was good.

People really did I think want the Uncharted third-person cinematic experience, even with how stale as fuck that formula is in Uncharted itself.

After how it was especially treated at the Game Awards last year, with Ford showing up all that that bs, it really is simply a 2024 game. It's just a shame it came out so late in the year. It was in a weird spot.

Yes it does especially if it's a well designed challenge. A game needs to have some challenge, some kind of difficulty curve to be great. Donkey Kong Bonanza- could've been a good game if there was any challenge whatsoever but there wasn't. Who does this appeal to? What's the point of even having enemies at a certain point. Kids? When I was a kid games were harder than today- perhaps too hard but at least most games had a challenge, something to overcome and get better at.
 
Indy game is easily a top 5 story of any game I have ever played. It legit felt like you were playing a Hollywood blockbuster movie. Up there with Uncharted 4 with providing top tier cinematics, graphics, world design, and voice acting. The gameplay was good, not great, but definitely one of my favorite experiences of this generation

I say this as someone who strongly believes the vast majority of AAA games have stories that are terribly written and are of poor quality. Indy game was on par with the quality of writing of the original trilogy
 
Game made me dislike Indy as an IP. What a boring slog. Why even get such an action oriented license if you're going to make such a depressed game out of it. I hope the guys at Machine Games are OK. You coulda had bi-planes and motorcycle jumps and revolvers shooting dynamite out of the air. But nah, lets root through this alter boy's shoe box and look for some text documents. THAT, is next gen.
 
It came out in 2024, so it is not eligible.
Keighley's show is not to be taken seriously, if it were serious it would air in January/February 2025 (like the Oscars or the Dice awards) and wait for all games to be released in 2024.
 
I bought the game and am enjoying it- the first person view was a bad choice though - makes it feel like a walking simulator with qte events rather than a proper game sadly. Playing as Indy but only seeing him for 1% of the time is disappointing which is of course why they added hours and hours of cutscenes.

It feels boring too often which is the exact opposite of what Indy should be. Imagine if Last Crusade spent 20 mins in Indy's office, 20mins in Henry's house, 20 mins in the Venice library and 20 mins in the Zeppelin and then had about 30 mins of action, most of which was Indy hitting people over the head with spades or using his whip to jump crevices - that's this game.

I am enjoying it - as an Indy fan - but it is a slog - I have got to near the end of Egypt and have been playing since January!

It's like an Indie title with so much bloat with AAA visuals. Remove the back and forth side quests and you essentially removed half of the game time.
 
I played and finished it but looking back it was no GoTY material. The beginning was great but already midway through Egypt it kinda looses it's steam - and then you get an even bigger area tacked on. Found myself progressively doing less and less tasks as the games went on. Meaning, everything in the Vatican and almost nothing in the last area. Devs should should be a bit more self aware and know how long a certain gameplay can carry a game.
 
The game was okay but ultimately I dropped it after getting to Egypt. So many great perks are locked behind finding books and then the currency needed to unlock those perks are gotten from every other macguffin. It turns the game into a weird collectathon. There are seriously more collectibles than a banjo kazooie.. game…

Uh anyway… the game really would have benefited from a tighter focus on the critical path, which I did find pretty enjoyable. You could argue that I could have just ignored all of the side stuff but… that's a huge amount of content to ignore then.

If I have the opportunity to explore the world and collect stuff, I want to. That's how games like botw, Skyrim, cyberpunk, etc become games you play for hundreds of hours.

Indiana jones didn't need to be that.

Troy baker was incredible as Indy and I consistently forgot I was NOT listening to Harrison Ford.

Fascinating tidbit: only 31% of steam players have the achievement for beating the game.

63% of MHWilds players have completed all of the story missions in that game though.

So while Indiana sits at a comfortable 89 on steam and has generally received high praise, Wilds is sitting at a 66 and getting dragged through the mud, despite more people playing it longer and a higher percentage completing the story.

That game has no shot at GOTY either. At least it actually came out this year. They can commiserate together.
