Wii emulator can do 720p HD

Does your graphics card matter? I have an i7 and a ton of ram, but the games chug at 720p (~15 fps). I have a pretty average video card, but I thought these things only used processors.

edit: Also, if it helps, I'm on 64 bit Vista.

you still need a decent videocard to render the graphics. What card do you have?

ATI RADEON HD4670 512MB

I feel like, combined with the i7 and 6gb of ram, I SHOULD be able to run this on 720p with the aa settings low or off, but it still chugs pretty badly.

stock clocked i7 920 + 4670 = no way

compile/grab the latest build (4203) and overclock that cpu to 3.5ghz+

the fastest cpu for emulation is the c2d e8600 cos they overclock so well, u can get them to 4.5ghz fairly easily

:(

So what's my best option, overclocking the CPU or buying a new graphics card (which I was leaning towards to play other games anyway)?

edit: Just read up on the internet that my mobo is locked, so I can't overclock it (it's a Dell).

Should I bother with the gfx card, or is my stock clocked cpu going to prevent me from reaching 30 fps on this emulator no matter what?

Heat haze effect doesn't work too well with the widescreen forcing:

will try this with more games later.

SO good to have sound in these two games now.

whoah, sound?!?! how's the framerate? is the sound choppy? This and PCSX2 might make me build a new PC:lol
these two run well enough for me. i get about 30 fps in both.

just played mario kart DD and got about 40 fps in that, and sound! yay.

edit:

unfortunately there isn't a hack that works nicely with it yet. you can either have completely black backgrounds and text and menus, or visable back grounds and completely black menus and none existant text.

I heared that overclocking my E5200 was a farily easy task. The only problem is that it came with a factory-assembled PC that I just bought in Media Markt. Is it still possible to... well, overclock it ?

Most games run @ only 20 FPS with my 9800GT and 4Go RAM.

is the phenom 64 bit? 64 bit and dual core help quite a lot with dolphin in my experience. your quad core isn't going to run any quicker than a dual core though, it only has dual core support at this stage.
Pretty sure it's 32bit. Well Im running on Vista, and it's the 32 bit version.

well then even if your phenom is 64 bit, you wouldn't be able to run 64 bit dolphin since you're on 32 bit vista.

What's this about an IL version? Is that the one found here? http://www.nyleveia.com/daco/

Your specs sound similar to mine, so I want to give this a shot. Someone also mentioned a widescreen hack/plugin. How does that work?
Daco's links don't work for me for some reason.

I got my build here:

http://www.mediafire.com/orleans

the IL thing, is there's two different versions of the exe. one is dolphin and one is dolphinIL. both use a slightly different method to emulate things. generally you want to use the regular one but occasionally something won't work right in the regular one, but will work right in the IL one, such as is the case with killer 7.

i'm using build 4205 and it has the widescreen hack in the graphics options when using open GL. you have to toggle it off and on each time you run a game to make it work though, but that's no big deal.

i have a 9800 GX2 and a quad core Intel Q6850.

some things run with plenty of overhead, some things struggle to run full speed (at 1080p with 4xAA and 4xAF).

your mileage may vary.

This thread makes me very sad. Why can't Nintendo release a HD Wii?
Because it would make no difference. An HD Wii would be a successor with more horsepower and at least 720p support. It would have totally new games for it, and any BC would be probably upscaled, not natively rendered.

Aka what difference would it make?

Galaxy in HD with some AA looks amazing.

but i don't need new hardware to play it :)

Mark Rein recently said that over half of the Gears of War 2 players are playing the game in SD.

He also gives no source for that, so I'm not sure he's not pulling that out of his ass. It's not like steam where they get a report of what gfx card their users have. He has zero idea how many people play his game on an hdtv or not....

So, I'm trying to install this emulator, but each setup exe I try to install gives me the same error message that I'm downloading it on the wrong version of Windows.

I have 64-bit Windows 7, but neither the 32-bit or the 64-bit installs work.

try the link i posted above. daco's builds don't ever fully download for me.

Of course we most likely will never know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of the things Xbox Live reports back to Microsoft is what resolution you have your Xbox set at.

I really don't see any reason for him to be lying about that statistic, especially when you add up both the number of people who don't own HDTVs and the number of people who own HDTVs but don't know how to set up HD.

just a couple more killer 7 shots from the second half of the game:

SUCH a visually striking game.

fucking hell. and here i was all excited to finally play this with an incoming wavebird.

didnt see it in the OP; can someone run by me the minimum requirements of said emulator? very interested to see if i can run it smoothly.

Funny to think that the best visual representations of many of Nintendo's offerings are right here in this thread.
It's true! Odd to see HD Nintendo characters.

Faked 16:9 support is fairly awesome. HUD still looks stretched though.

the hud will always be stretched until someone learns how to make a custom one and insert it into the game like what happened with the n64 scene

the opengl plugin allows you to do this

this is also why the Wii version of RE4 once it's properly emulated will beat the pants off the PC version once and for all.

Hi Res textures bitches.

I'd love for it to beat this.

PC version with mods.

Because that would mean it'd looks better than most PS3/360 games. :lol

With flat textures, lack of geomety and old gen lightning ? I don't think so.
Or most of bad PS3/360 games.

yeah, exactly. the ONLY thing in those screens that makes them look good is the textures.

once someone makes a texture pack for the wii version with those same textures, you'll see.

i know which i think looks better. once those textures are in the wii version, there's no argument left for the PC port.

With every new release, performance takes a hit on my end.

Sure, i have a pretty old computer by today's specs (Quad QX6700 running at 3.2 and a 8800GTX), but I lost about 10 fps in the span of 4 major releases.

Which is somewhat good, which means they're emulating more of the Wii and improving compatibility. Now they need to go back to tweaking the emulation :lol

Would be cool if they managed to split it for more than 2 cores at a time. Two of my cores peak at 100% when i run dolphin, but the other two are only at barely 20%.

Also, when are they going to map wiimote controls to the mouse? Proper FPSes plz.. :D

Good thing the RE4 textures are pretty much already done. Just need to import them to some format that dolphin will recognize and apply!

let's see the PC screens from this area:

Now you're just being cruel... :lol

It really astounds me people going off about the PC version being the end all port, are blind to the missing lighting, the effect it has to the mood of the game is 10x more important than texture clarity to me, but ymmv I suppose. I guess they're just happy their lighting got patched to the point it wasn't complete ass, like in the release version.

It's something that has to be seen in motion to understand too, perhaps it's not missed as much as I think, but since I'm aware of the many differences, I realize they're missing, like the way lightning doesn't look nearly as good, or the way the flashlight isn't as good either.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the IQ in the WII/GCN on original hardware is beyond terrible. 360p and 16 bit colour with zero aa/af looks fucking terrible, to the point where it takes a huge amount away from the game, its just prohibitively ugly. If the IQ was at least upto normal GCN standards maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but its just so beyond terrible in RE4, that its not surprising people find it hard to look past.

This is why the game running well on Dolphin is so important, we can finaly see what the game looks like without having to face blurry/jaggy/dithered hell.
