Wii U Games 2014

Nintendo should focus on a new Pokemon

But not a new Pokemon. A new IP like pokemon.

My suggestion is a 3rd person shooter with anime style (and an anime tie-in, why not?) in which you "gotta catch em all" guns.

In fact, the game is played with wiimote + nunchuck only, and everytime you get a new gun you need to discover how to reload it, since each one reloads differently. Reloads takes motion control + button presses, whatever. Also, same deal for secondary fire and whatever other secrets for each gun.

I think its a great idea, since its my idea. Its probably not a good idea

What's left to announce for Wii U? I made a list.

Likely:

-Kid Icarus (I think this is happening based on the success of the 3DS game)
-Luigi's Mansion (see above)
-Animal Crossing (see above)
-Pokken
-Miyamoto New IP
-EAD Tokyo New Game
-New Retro Studios Game (maybe?)
-Kirby
-Mario Party
-HD Remasters (Galaxy? Prime Trilogy? TP/SS?)
-New 2D Mario platformer (I think the "New" series has outstayed its welcome at this point)
-Paper Mario (hopefully)
-Crazy surprise no one could have predicted (like SMTxFE or Hyrule Warriors)

Not Likely:

-Metroid (dead)
-Star Fox (dead)
-F-Zero (dead)
-Mother (dead)

What am I missing? Is this realistic? Can a library like this lead the console through 2016? 2017?

I honestly don't see Kid Icarus HD happening anytime soon or at all.
Sakurai said he's done with the franchise and the game sales weren't impressive by any means so a HD version of the same game in a dead console sounds just like waste of time and money.
Edit: that's, of couse, if you were talking about Uprising HD. A totally new game seems even less likely.
The rest seems highly likely. Even Metroid. Yes, the last game bombed hard but Miyamoto stated he really wanted to see a new Metroid on Wii U so...

Yeah, but with Nintendo you really never know (at least with the Wii U so far). For example DK:TF was slated for a Q4 2013 release and got pushed back in 2014. I believe Mario Kart was the same way. Pikmin 3 also got pushed back. I really doubt we'll see any of these games until holiday 2014, and i definitely don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that they get pushed into 2015 given that Nintendo likes to make sure that the games are 100% ready to go (maybe not for Hyrule Warriors, but for the other 2)

Mario Kart always has been a Spring 2014 title since the day it was announced.

Man that is a rough list imo, but I am super happy we're getting Bayonetta 2 and X next this year. Those alone may make the system worth every penny :D

I want to anticipate Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, but I kind of sort of need to see something to anticipate :p

I like your list except for the HD remasters. We don't need the Prime Trilogy (as nice as it'd look in HD) released again. In fact, no more remasters for a while, please. I'd rather Nintendo belts out some new titles so that I have a reason to buy a Wii U. For now, the same old titles in HD just aren't gonna cut it. For me, Nintendo was only going to ride on that train for so long.

Besides the whole reloading thing, sounds a lot like kid icarus. But unfortunately, I believe Sakurai said he won't be making a sequel anytime soon

Edit: Nevermind, I see what you meant now. It's THIS year hah

Feels closer, right? :p

I see where are you coming from and I understand your point of view but you have to remember they're basically carrying alone the console. Third parties couldn't care less about it so they need to keep the games flowing.

I feel like (at least right now) Nintendo will keep making HD remakes so they can release something between big/new titles to try to avoid droughts. HD is definitely taking them way more time than expected so droughts are imminent. They represent a quick cash and they are technically easier and faster to get them done than new games.

Wasn't Wind Waker HD done in 5-6 months or so?

I'm not against HD remakes but I can totally see Nintendo relying on them at least till they fully nail HD development or figure something out to fix their third party situation

Kid icarus didn't do /that/ badly. According to the wikipedia page of best selling 3ds games, it's sitting at the 15th best seller out of everything on the system, and virtually everything above it is from a big franchise (Pokemon, Mario, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest 7 and Zelda). Now, arguably Luigis Mansion and Tomodachi Collection aren't part of huge franchises in the same way that Kid Icarus isn't, but they're still sequels to more recent games. And there was the whole year of luigi thing too.

It did pretty well all things considered. I wouldn't be surprised if *someone*, possibly not sakurai, makes a sequel to it eventually. Didn't sakurai leave hal labs in part because he got fed up with people expecting sequels to everything he made rather than getting to work on new ideas?

I'm not against HD remakes but I can totally see Nintendo relying on them at least till they fully nail HD development or figure something out to fix their third party situation

If Nintendo relies on hd remakes much from now on, it'll only solidify that people aren't going to buy the console. No-one but the very hardcore Nintendo fans care enough to buy the console, and we already have it, and if people continue not buying the console, there is nothing Nintendo can do to rectify the 3rd party situation, unfortunately.

I'll just see what happens. Maybe we'll get a few bones tossed our way after the 30th.

Not actually that important
So I tried Black OPs 2 in offline co-OP and had a BLAST! I don't care for Call of Duty much since MW2 but playing with the remote fixes all my gripes with sluggish controls in FPS. I enjoyed that on Modern Warfare Wii but the framerate was too shitty to appreciate that fully (loved it on Red Steel 2). The lower players count and no DLC doesn't bother me, I'm fine with the content of the main game. I may try online sometimes, maybe I will add some of you guys, I was wondering if hopefully with the U not being hacked there's less cheaters compared to 360 and PS3? Haven't tried the PC port online, I think that uses punk buster and maybe it's safe from cheaters, dunno.

The revelation (I'm not even kidding, it's a freakin' GAMECHANGER) tho is playing with a buddy each having a screen (gamepad+TV), that is incredible!
Are there any other games on Wii U that do such a thing for couch multiplayer?

I can't believe I've bought a Call of Duty game and I'm having a blast with it.

Mario Kart always has been a Spring 2014 title since the day it was announced.

Yeah I wasn't 100% sure on that one, I think there was rumors of it being released in the fall way back, but that was way back before Nintendo themselves made any announcements about the game.

Both Pikmin 3 and DK were pushed back as roster fillers. They're past that point now.
Add to that, these three games are not made by Nintendo proper.
Smash is by Namco. Hyrule Warriors is by Koei. X is by Monolith.
They don't have the luxuries of year delays like EAD does.

Fair enough point, well that just gets more more excited for this year then

Off the top of my head Lego Marvel does it

.

Its the biggest WiiU feature. Yet almost no game uses it.

I ~heard~ Marvel Lego uses it, but i still cant find a single player to confirm it.

Since the beggining im waiting for good, big games to explore this feature.

EDIT: So beaten...

W101 had two big things going against it.
1. Being on WiiU.
2. Style.

3. Platinum Games simply can't make games with mainstream appeal, horrible retail performance regardless of platform.
4. A demo that turned a lot of potential buyers off.

So are we certain that X from Monolith Soft is coming this year?

And X is single player RPG that can be played both offline and online, yes?

1. It's been listed as a 2014 game in Nintendo's official scheduled for a while now. They've also been doing urgent hiring for a while as well as localization which indicates that the game is nearing completion.

2. We really don't know. We assume it will be a single player game with some online options, but we haven't been told anything about it, sadly.

1) It's a 2014 game.
2) It's a single player RPG like Xenoblade that will probably (!) have some form of online co-op.

If it comes out this year as a single player JRPG with online mode, this will make me a WiiU owner.

In fact, I pray there is a WiiU edition of X.

Sadly, I doubt they'll make a WiiU special edition for this game. They didn't even for SM3DW.

A Donkey Kong Country edition would be nice as well. But you can bet on a Mario Kart 8 bundle. I'm thinking it will be the first white Premium/Deluxe model outside Japan. + special edition GamePad with racing stripes.

I think there is a lot more IP digging that Nintendo could do, and I am hoping things like NES Remix may inspire them.

I think the biggest disappointment for a lot of Nintendo fans were these years with the Wii where we thought that Nintendo was developing some amazing launch titles for the Wii U. With the exception of Skyward Sword and the OpRainfall games (which were practically brought via third party), did Nintendo really focus solely on the 3DS? Look at that list, a couple of games were remakes and some others never left Japan. By completely letting the Wii die for two years you'd think the first 6 months of the Wii U launch should have been more than Nintendo Land, NSMBU and Game and Wario.

Just noticed that Need for Speed Most Wanted U is available for purchase on the eShop. However it's $59.99 while a physical copy can be bought off the Origin store for $19.99. *shakes head*.

Haven't been able to get to store like I wanted to in the past few days. They had a used copy for $20 at Best Buy. Now considering just buying the new copy from Origin.

I dont know why publishers dont lower their digital prices on consoles, Batman AC is still 59.99 and Batman AO is 49.99.

Batman AO msrp just dropped to 39.99 why that doesnt apply to digital I dont know

You know, why hasn't Nintendo put out a new color for Wii U? I mean the damn logo and boxes are blue, make a Crystal Blue Wii U for crying out loud, that might grab attention!

Not actually that important
That's a sad list. It's why I've purchased the last two CODs on WiiU and the sole reason why I didn't get Splinter Cell.

It really is a unique feature. I hope Mario Kart allows five players.

At the very least I hope that even if it's stuck on 4 players it allows us to get rid of player on TV and put it, optionally, on Gamepad only. Who am I kidding, they'll probably say something stupid like they didn't do that because it would unfair to TV players who can be peeked at their held-on weapons... hopefully Sonic
Transformed paved the way and MK8 will follow up... besides SRR's horrible 20fps average :p
Donkey Kong should have no reasons to not offer double screens mp, but I never cared for the series' 2 players mode, I need to be in constant control, the game is too challenging to be played with a buddy and, upon my experience on Wii, not fun anyway.

What a fucking waste :( why the hell Monster Hunter doesn't support it to name one?!
I can think of so many games benefitting from that...

Do you mean where one player plays on the TV screen and the other on the Wiipad? This is confirmed for both LEGO Batman and LEGO Marvel. Also Sonic Racing uses it, too. My wife and I play like this generally. Makes things much easier, especially for LEGO games. Used it on CoD Black Ops 2 at some point when a friend came to visit.

It doesn't even have a name, of course it won't come out anytime soon. The 2014 date is about as reliable as that laughable 3 month launch window, which happened to be one year long. Nintendo's management is so poor, they had to delay that underwhelming Donkey Kong game just to cover up the fact that without it, there'd be another 4-5 months of absolutely no games until Mario Kart... yeah, their actual ambitious titles like X will take a while :/
(Might as well pull a Twilight Princess with those instead of sending these few to sales death too. WiiU will be replaced by 2016 anyway, unless they've become completely insane)

They rather finish their games instead of rushing them out and having a buggy mess like BF4, which i have no problem with, the problem is lack of 3rd party filler titles now there you can blame them.

x has probably been in the making for four years or so at this point. i don't see it getting pushed back too far.

nintendo might have delayed dkctf, but they also revealed a link between worlds in march and released it in november. super mario 3d world wasn't revealed until e3 last year and it came out in november. it seems for every delay, there's a surprise.

This.
And lol at calling Tropical Freeze "that underwhelming DK game", such an uneducated statement. Returns was easily one of the top10 2D platformers ever and probably the best one to come out last gen.
What they fucked up was in how they approached HD development, considering how early they all but abandoned the Wii there should have been more stuff on the horizon and maybe a couple of titles more at retail. But definitely NOT "X", Monolith needs time to craft a game of that scope, development time of similar HD titles has been easily 3 to 5 years. Also there is no way the system will be left behind in the next 2 years already (it's 2014 man, 2016 is right around the corner).

Most of the content from that Direct show which introduced it now seems to actually be a preview of the whole WiiU life (even many Virtual Console promises have vanished since then) and iirc X was also labeled with something like ,,an early build of Monolith Soft's next game'' in statements afterwards.
Maybe they've really been making this since Xenoblade was gold, but they always seem busy with lots of other projects too and let's see how much Nintendo are willing to improve in the localisation aspects this time. Also, all teams are probably able to be affected once certain games are struggling (i.e. Link Between Worlds on halt for a year or something because Nintendoland needed more people) and the second Monolith team especially seems to be helping out with random stuff quite often.

This.

lol, I've finished DKCR three times. Doesn't mean you gotta be okay with more of the same despite dropping 300 bucks, which would suggest certain generational leaps for the games.

Yes.

That's why I said you shouldn't expect it this year. They can't deal with HD development and are already struggling to get games with much smaller scope out without major delays.

Also there is no way the system will be left behind in the next 2 years already (it's 2014 man, 2016 is right around the corner).

4 years is enough of an alibi generation for a failed product.

What games with amazing scope has been delayed on WiiU? Only delayed games were launch window and DKCTF, the other games have always been 2014 or TBA

And Nintendo has always had a 5 year console cycle so 4 years wont be a huge drop off, sales are gonna pick up when MK8 and Smash Bros come out anyways they might as well ride it out.

If Smash Bros. is released and you and 3 of your friends are playing. Who will use the pad and who will use the wiimotes?

Q: can we use Game Cube controllers on the Wii U?

They should finally release the white premium Wii U in Europe. But yeah, crystal blue would also be fine. Anything but black.

God damn, I already own 4 games but no console lol
