Q1 = Jan - Mar
Launch Window = Nov - March

If they dated the game as Q1 people would at least get a confirmation of it being a 2013 title but right now nobody knows for sure.

What is making it difficult is that Nintendo no longer announces games that are far away from being release, except in rare exceptions. We saw the same thing with many 3DS games. I do remember that Nintendo starting doing this cut down on the hype backlash.

Most likely, we will have a Nintendo Direct after Christmas, most likely the beginning of January, which we will get more detail about future release beyond March.

That's awesome

Do all APPS allow you to browse the internet or is just the youtube app ???
It's not from the YouTube app, you can do this while using the browser, you can have a tab for YouTube playing on the tv while you browse GAF on the GamePad

Just ordered a Wii U deluxe with NSMB U for the European launch. Fuck me, what have I done...

hmmm i have been thinking about getting a European one as well. All my consoles i have imported from the US.

Are there any restrictions on the wii U, say not being able to download certain contents if a you a USA version?

It also has to do with meeting expectations both financial and hype wise. By staying around that 6 month window, they know the game will be able to meet the date they announce meaning they can be more flexible about where they put it against other games on the market. Also, some series tend to change a lot in development. The content in those first two twilight princess trailers for example are almost entirely different from the final game.

If we do see a direct, i only expect it to be about OS features and/or fixes and updates. New games will be saved for Feb, unless they have some sort of major winter event hands on showcase for their Q1 games and potential ports of other major games.

Saw this on Nan Assault Neo leaderboards. A non US/Can system. Perhaps an importer or a release date broken in Europe?

italy... why am i not surprised?

Can you put a disc in the drive to turn it on? Does that work or cause the same issues?

I tried inserting Black Ops 2 and Zombie U seven times each with the system
powered down - game icon showed up each time when the dashboard booted
and the games booted without error each time.
Will continue to keep an eye on this.

You're the reason hey keep fucking us over :(

I'm the same.

I really do think it's a unique relationship we have with Nintendo. I just wish they'd stop punching me.

We're part of the problem. Or we are the problem.

My deal with Nintendo is the day they stop making good games is the day I stop buying their shit.

They would have more specifics if a game is actually coming out november or december. They may not say it outright but it's basically confirmed 2013. Confirmed February/March even.

And I hope that day will never come :P

After the few days I spent playing with the Wii U, I'm pretty optimistic as far as this console is concerned. One thing I learnt though is that it is a system I probably wouldn't have enjoyed as much if I was living alone. Part of the fun in Nintendo Land for example is having one person follow you playing on the TV while you're focused on the gamepad. There's a bunch of stuff that is integrated to catch the viewer's attention and make him interact with whoever is playing that doesn't exist much on other game systems. On one of the mini-games, you get a zoomed camera angle on the gamepad, and a wider view on the TV, so people around the room may end up cooperating and not just taking turns playing the game. My girlfriend who wasn't interested in this particular mini-game at first, ended up getting soaked into it and trying to beat my scores, and it all started by her trying to help me identify shortcuts on the course.

Of course, many will argue that this is what we've already seen with the wii, and I do feel it is right to a certain extent. And even though I love this Nintendo philosophy they've been pushing to try and have people "bond" around their console, I hope the Wii U isn't limited exclusively to these kind of experiences.

I...I did it. I pulled the trigger. Dunno if I'll regret it or not, but no going back now.

I just beat Batman. I thought it was a great game. The story was a million times better than AA. That was just an excuse to throw as many Batman villains in the game as possible. This felt more like a long story arc in the comics.

I'm going to keep playing it. I barely touched any side stuff. I just always felt like I was in the middle of a dungeon or something. The story just kept me on track all the way through.

Just over 23 hours on the activity log.

Thats just about, word for word, the exact opposite of how I feel about both games. I thought Asylum felt considerably more measured in it's approach to villains, and to the contrary I thought City was much, much more a case of throwing too many characters into the story.

I also found myself too easily distracted by Arkham City, whereas I always felt focused on the main story with Arkham Asylum.

But each to their own. Main thing is you enjoyed the game, as City's flaws aside they're still both two of my favourite games of the generation.

Soooo.

When should I expect Amazon UK to dispatch my Wii U? I ordered it the day the listing went up, and the estimated delivery date is Friday 30th according to my order page. So when will it be dispatched? Any ideas?

Wednesday? Thursday?

*gulp*...Friday?!

I also ordered Sonic Racing, and that has a delivery date of Friday - but it also has a dispatch date of Wednesday showing on my account. Is it safe to assume they'll send the Wii out with it?

I might still like AA better. If AA is Super Metroid, then AC is Metroid Prime.

And oh yeah, secretly the best Wii U launch game. It's too bad many will skip it because they're so concerned with the damned framerate.

They've pushed this philosophy ever since the N64 and they wil keep at it. With good reason, because the N64, Gamecube and Wii offered quite the multiplayer experiences. It started off with four player splitscreen, evolved in experiments like Pac-Man vs. and Cyrstal Chronicles, to eventually have multiplayer games with easy to understand Wiimotes. Nintendo gets their fair (some of them well deserved) flack, but one thing a lot people acknowledge is the fact they know how to build a fun local multiplayer console. It's part of their identity now.

They never forget about delivering the singleplayer experiences. Well that's how I feel about it. Of all of the Wii games I own 21 titles which were published by Nintendo and most of them vary from good singleplayer experiences to amazing ones. So I'm pretty confident Nintendo will show the goods eventually.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set-up the WiiU without hooking it up to a TV? Can you configure the system on the pad?
The first thing it does is ask you go to copy a code from the TV to the pad to finalize the sync between the system and gamepad, so you can't go completely TV-free.

i use a computer monitor for my consoles, can you do the analogue audio from the component cables + video over hdmi thing on the Wii U? I'm assuming it will work ok if I use HDMI->DVI-D cable on my monitor so long as it can output 720p, both the ps3 and 360 do it.

360 even detects its a monitor and sets the resolution correctly, whereas the ps3 just outputs 720p.

After passing out early from Turkey and too much spiked egg nog I find myself staring at Target.com noting that Wii Us are in stock at several stores...should I head to Starbucks and then make my way over or think I can hold off till later and get some more sleep: note it's 6:30 AM.

I have a question about Wii VC, can you use the gamepad as the controller on them? (not the screen obviously) or do i still use my wii mote or wii mote w/ classic controller?

I haven't tried any old Wii stuff yet but someone told me somewhere that would not work.

No one noticed it yet?

TVii service was stealth announced for Europe by Nintendo (well kinda):

Nintendo TVii enables you to find, watch, and engage with TV shows and movies in entirely new ways.

Using the Wii U GamePad, you can browse and search for programming from sources you subscribe to, including cable and satellite channels and video-on-demand services.

Nintendo TVii will be available in selected regions throughout Europe in 2013.

More details will be announced in due course.

I thought we wouldn´t get it

Oh and the service launching in "selected regions" in 2013 is because there are countries NOT having netflix, hulu or amazon video... Like Germany! But its rumored Netflix may start here neyt year so...

I started playing more games and everything was fine until I went to the eShop and froze :( I had to unplug my system to get it to turn off. Anyone been having problems with eShop?

It seems to be a system wide problem (I have a feeling it might be related to MiiVerse but I'm not sure). I hope Nintendo can get an update out to fix it.

So I got up at 7 this morning and went to all stores (Walmart, target, Kmart, toys r us, etc) in a 30 mile radius. No luck. All sold out. Then I remembered a GameStop just opened up about 10 min walk from my house. I called and they said they have 2 basic sets left. Picked one up from there. Its updating right now. Can't wait to goes in NSMBU once its done.

So far, the biggest complaint I have about the console is the battery life of the GamePad. I've tried turning down the brightness and turning on power save mode, and it still tops out around 4 hours. I even tried turning the display off while watching Amazon and it lasted maybe an hour more than with the display on.

I really hope someone (Nyko?) steps up to the plate and release larger batteries soon.

Short answer: No. Longer answer: Apparently this only does anything in the BC Wii Mode. For modern purposes, the system setup has you choose whether it's using HDMI or non-HDMI output.

Nope. Wii mode doesn't know what to do with Wii U specific controllers, similar to how GameCube games couldn't use Wii remotes.

for those of us who got the basic pack, how do we buy the system stand?
i could have sworn it was going to be included in this set

but the box doesnt mention it at all. is the only option to order it from nintendo's website?

It should be available anywhere. It's in stock at Amazon and available at my local Best Buy. I'd imagine Gamestop would have it as well.

Edit: Sorry, should have read that more closely, I thought it would be in that set as well.

I hope they do DVRs too. TiVo because I own one (and is network controllable), but sky and dvb-t recorders too
