I went to my local supermarket to buy Black Ops 2, but it was sold out. They had all the other games, and I stupidly bought Zombi U instead of some nice and silly action game like Assassins Creed... I've downloaded several games since getting the Wii U (Mario, Zombi, Trine and Neo Assault), and everything went pretty well. So I decided to download Assassin's Creed 3 today and the download began and said it would take about 7 hours to complete (which for 17GB isn't too bad). I left to work on the computer and when I came back the Wii U had shut itself off, which is strange because I thought it didn't do that when stuff was downloading.

I turned the system back on and turned off the auto shut down option. However, my download was now at around 52 hours and not going down. I shut off the system and restarted it again but the download was still 50+ hours. I decide to delete the download as well as Neo Assault to re-download and get an idea of the speed. Neo Assault (which is 82MB) is taking 30 minutes to download.

I ran a speed test and my internet is still working fine, but since the Wii U auto shut down the system is downloading like it's in fucking 1999. I don't want to wait 3 days to play Assassin's Creed. This is pure bullshit.

Definitely never seen anything like that in Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if they work on Wii U -- afaik, anything that worked on 3DS also worked for Wii U, whether or not the Wii U logo was shown. Someone should test it though

How long did you leave it? Give it 20 minutes and see if it ramps up.

It's strange that people are experiencing different download speeds. I bought Neo Assault last night and I had it downloaded and installed in roughly 8 mins.

In all honesty the download speeds have been very good for me up until now. It's only after the system shut itself off that it's been doing this. I'm not sure why that would cause slow downloads all of a sudden, though. I'm just gonna leave it to download now, and my only hope is that it somehow corrects itself as I'm sleeping tonight.

So I ordered one of those Wii U Classic Pro controllers from Amazon. The ones that let you switch between wii mode and wii u mode. I'm psyched, because I want to play xenoblade and smash bros.

My question is this: If I buy stuff off the Wii virtual console, will I be able to transfer it eventually to Wii U, or will it remain only playable in Wii mode? If the latter is the case, then I think I'll wait until there's a Wii U virtual console before I buy anything.

Maybe you can try playing with the DNS servers on your box/modem. Try Google DNS or OpenDNS if you trust them.

Mind you, it's not a promise it'll make things better. But I know at least Sony has problem of load balancing, and the download times I have are several times longer if I use my provider DNS servers.


I doubt there's problems with servers, some of them at least are probably with too much trafic so close after launch. Since not all people experiencing the same kind of difficulties, that means that not ALL of them are with their hands full. Maybe changing the DNS can connect you to a different server and make things better.

Pressed the home buttons clicked on the eshop (which took me to the NSMBU page oddly). Redeems the code and hit 'download', then closed out and carried on playing where I left off. Nice.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really want to be messing with that stuff. Besides, the downloads were working well before, so I can't imagine it's something to do with my modem or router or anything of that nature. For now I'll just play the wait and see approach.

My system is coming tomorrow but I won't be transferring my Wii stuff to it for awhile so I am in no rush to consolidate my controllers, just trying to plan for what my options are.

I'm considering selling my kids 3DS and my 3DSXL and games, and putting that towards an iPad for the kids for Christmas. They don't play 3DS that much anymore, and I tend to play in the house not out and about. I'm thinking that the wiiU gamepad will have similar Nintendo games as the 3DS, they'll look better than 3DS and with a bigger screen. For my usage patterns its a perfect handheld.

I suspect that they'll consider wii vc games to be a different SKU than wii u ones. It's safer to wait for now.

I know your feel, been getting error after error since yesterday, I've seen no less than 7 different error codes, error codes that are not even explained in Nintendo's website.

Tried to change the DNS, changed the IP config and it actually got worse, tired of this shit.

And no, my router is not the problem, my PS3 has no issue at all.

Earlier today I went to Walmart and saw 2 deluxe and 1 regular boxes. Compared that to the Wii launch I never saw one until around 8 months since it came out.

There doesn't seem to be. The advertising push has been super low. It isn't just that "hard core" gamers aren't interested because it's "only as powerful as the current gen". It's that even the casual consumers are essentially unaware of its existence or are unaware that it's a new console at all.

I talked to a guy on BLOPS2 the other day who said he was pissed when he got it home because he thought it was a portable handheld.
