Finally got confirmation from TRU on my deluxe about 10 minutes ago, said my order is now being processed and should arrive between November 21-27. Hoping for the 21st! I also have a basic coming from Gamestop, just gotta decide which one to give to my parents potentially and which one to keep for ourselves.

I went to Gamestop today to get BO2 for PS3 and they told me there was NO chance at all of me snagging one of these without putting myself on a waiting list before Christmas... is it really that scarce or did she was just throwing me the sales pitch??

Gamestop over-preordered. If you want one, go to another non-Gamestop store, chances are you'll easily get one before Christmas, maybe even tomorrow.

what the fuck, no zombiU at wal mart :/ i wanted to play something other then nintendoland

oh well, to toys r us in the morning to get scribblenauts and zombiu for $90

you're better off finding one from any store not named Gamestop. they obviously accepted too many preorders and since they're a gaming only store, they'll naturally attract more people willing to preorder than at the big box retailers

I will check Wal-Mart tomorrow, then. My kid is bugging me like crazy for one of these for Christmas, so I will cave in and get it for him (and me, of course! :D )

Man, a whole lot of people are going to be pissed off at this massive system update. What a seriously terrible decision by Nintendo. I think I'll just go to bed since there's not much of a reason to wait 1-2 hours at this point. They really know very little about how to handle things like this. So much for a "midnight launch".

So is The Verge's review one that should be ignored? It seemed substantial, but at the same time came off as being ill-informed of the things to come. Even though it was mentioned, it was like the reviewer wasn't aware that the day 1 patch would've rectified exactly what he was complaining about.

Sounds like their main criticisms are the build quality, button layout, touch screen, laggy interface, and unclear applications for the GamePad and future third party support.

Of those criticisms I think that the touchscreen, button layout, and build quality are baseless. Mainstream tech sites will always knock the build quality of anything that isn't following the Apple industrial design trend du jour. Button layout is the same as it was in every other Nintendo system, so if you have a problem with it I'm not sure what to tell you. From my own experience using the touch screen at the demo station, it's just about as good as a capacitive screen and resistive touch screens offer benefits that capacitive doesn't for gaming.

The other complaints probably have basis, though. The laggy interface is a problem that the 3DS and the Wii also share (Wii to a lesser extent), and I was hoping that it'd be fixed by setting aside so much memory for the OS but unfortunately it looks like it hasn't. Third party support is obviously still very much in doubt, and Nintendo never completely fulfilled their promises with motion controls so a little skepticism on second screen gaming is definitely warranted.

I'm willing to bet The Verge was referring to installing disc-based games on the hard drive when they said you can't run games off the hard drive.

Later, they said the eShop warned people with the Basic edition to plug in hard drives to download games, since the games are bigger than the internal memory.

Still doesn't make sense in context. They said you can't run games off of external storage and so recommended buying the larger capacity deluxe version, implying that it was possible to run them off of internal storage.

Eh screw it, I'll go hit the close-by Walmart.

If there's a short line, I'll try snagging one. Otherwise I have a GS pre-order for the morning.

I'll report back by 12:15 or so (in about 30 minutes from the time of this post).

Best, and good luck everyone!

Welp, Walmart was a bust. The employee was pretty cool - not his fault. But he said they're only selling ones at midnight for those that pre-ordered. They have more systems; but they're saving them all until Black Friday :-/

Just a heads up for those considering it. Good luck, in any case! :)

So my wife went up to Wal Mart at midnight and got a deluxe without a preorder, all while I got to watch the GSP vs. Condit fight.

Like a boss.

Showed up at walmart at 11:30 pm.. (without a pre-order)

Only 2 other people waiting.. walked out with the second to last deluxe model.

I'm currently doing the system update.. have the console hooked up my bedroom just to power and I'm controlling it from the computer room with the wii u gamepad.

the connection of the controller to the console is dropping out a lot and they aren't more than 20 ft away from each other.. different rooms.. but I honestly expected better range than this..

Your walls can have an impact.

One more thing, Nintendo sure has had some hits and misses as far as hardware design goes but the Wii U game pad is perhaps the ugliest thing they've ever put out. It doesn't feel like a cheap, but fun toy like the 3DS XL... It just feels like a cheap consumer electronic made by people who have no idea how to design something that is aesthetically pleasing. The console itself is just flat out lazy, though it doesn't really matter how it looks.

Okay, enough negativity... I really like what I've seen of the OS from preview videos, so at least that's nice looking!

So I'm thinking of getting some Wii games with my console tomorrow.

I'm hesitating between The Last Story and Xenoblade.

Thoughts ?

Got my console. Walmart was not ready for this launch - had no games out to purchase. Now I'm trying to download this huge ass update.

Just got back from Best Buy (had an in-store pickup order). Got there at 11:30, already a ton of people already bought their systems in store and were waiting around...manager told me they got 80 and were sold out of all of them except a few basic systems...Overall, really well organized...Was nice being able to go in the special pre-order line...
