Best thing about this system is the fact i can just take the power cable, system and game bad and i can play in my room (no tv in room). The small size makes it fast to pick up and move. Tried to see if i could just take the pad but it wouldn't make the distance. but its so easy to unhook and move its nice.

Just got caught up. These seem to be massive teething problems, especially for Nintendo, which generally caters to an "out of the box" experience. I'm glad that I decided to hold off.

I'm wondering what the time between a patch being published and a system with that patch built in reaching stores. Does anybody have any records which indicate, for example, how each of the Wii's major patches took before systems at retail started carrying them?

…now to check out a vid of the browser. It sounds like it's pretty great. If anything, I'm pretty pissed off at using capacitive touch on my phone for web browsing, so I think I may find it a joy to have the fingernail/stylus option again. On to the video!

edit: Aha, video confirms browsing porn sites possible. Console killer app discovered!

Are they actually hard to find? I'm fairly certain all of the walmarts and targets by me have both models in stock still. Walmart.com even had the 32 GB up for order this morning (~8 AM EST).

Website stock trackers are unreliable at best. Called a few places that said they should be in stock according to the websites (walmart.com and target.com) and no luck.

The touch screen actually works really well with fingers once you get used to it. Best resistive screen I've ever used by far.

Yeah, I really like this part too. I'll actually be able to take the Wii U with me when I travel for Thanksgiving without any trouble as well.

Did anyone else NOT get a Club Nintendo PIN# with Nintendoland? I just noticed it's not in my game case.

Did you have trouble linking your Wii U? I'm still unable to get my Wii U to link to my Club Nintendo account.

To be clear, it's not linking them that's the problem from what I can see. I just don't show the survey on Club Nintendo despite it showing it's linked :(

Oh my god, the pikmin game on nintendoland is addicting as heck.

I also really like metroid with the wiimote.

I've yet to have anyone over for multiplayer though, so I haven't tried Mario Chase.

Pretty sure something that every tablet and phone on the planet can do isn't really a system seller. It's kind of expected now.
Being able to toggle between pad and screen is a new trick, though. Start a movie on the TV, switch to the pad, migrate to the bedroom (or toilet!)

But yes Netflix is on every device known to man, so yeah.. System seller, not quite.

I tried it in Best Buy, with the sequel to last gen's best game. It was pretty promising.

edit: By the way, I'm impressed that one of the Wiibrew exploits already works in the Wii U's "Wii mode". there are caveats, but it's still a little surprising.

My Wii U finally arrived, and am currently updated. 15 minutes, and not even 50%, damn.

Question: I noticed my gamepad has a rattling which seems to be coming from the top right corner. Is this normal, or was it damaged in transit? I noticed a small hole in the box, so it may have been roughly handled.

Agreed but the third timed mission is frustrating me (yes, I know, I suck).

I need another game. Try to decide between Scribblenauts (looks charming and I love the concept, I'm just not sure I'd enjoy the execution from what I've seen in videos) and AC3 (really don't like the series but the setting is so damned appealing). Decisions, decisions.

I have the same rattle.

Sleeper hit of Nintendo Land!

The prize unlocking mini-game is that for me. Feels like I'm playing Plinko on The Price Is Right.

Not normal. Typing from my gamepad right now. Definitely no rattling.

Twilight Princess, just use the browser. Youtube works perfect on it. Of everything, Wii U's browser has been one of the better surprise features.

Damn. I also did a quick search for "rattle" in this thread, and see a few others have the same issues, but many others don't. Gamepad appears to work fine so far, but I may contact Nintendo and get a replacement. Would rather not have my brand new hardware damaged right out of the box. Thanks.

OK. Just so that I'm understanding this correctly; The Wii U does support surround sound (just not the DD or DTS codec), but you need an AVR with video pass-thru to get it, right?

Yes

If you are considering one, either go cheap (scour Craigslist etc, look for ones tha people are selling because they upgraded to 3D etc), or get a HDMI 1.4 compatible one so you're future proofed.

My Yamaha 767 (old model) is awesome because I can switch HDMI inputs even when it is switched off. Very family friendly when my wife just wants to watch TV without messing about with a receiver

Yamaha 473 for $349 is an awesome bit of kit. Built in AirPlay too. http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V473-5-1-Channel-Network-Receiver/dp/B007JF85VU

I have a similar rattling actually and it too comes from the top right corner. The GamePad works properly with no problems, but there is definitely a rattling in mine from the top right corner.

Update: After removing my Club Nintendo account for the 5th time and relinking it, I was able to get it to link properly.

The buttons rattle ever so slightly.

Mine has a slight rattle as well. Doesn't seem to be damaged.

I just tested it (didn't notice the rattling until the post above) by holding down as many buttons as I could and trying it again. It definitely helped the rattle and if I had enough fingers, I believe the rattle would be nonexistent :)

Think Nintendo will rerelease Skyward Sword in HD for the Wii U?

Never got to play that one, but not going to play the sub HD Wii version.

This is my favorite game on the Wii U. Time to get a pizza in the mean time!

its the face buttons. Not a problem.

My system was working fine since I got it at midnight launch, then today I went to download NSMBU off the eShop, the system froze for the first time, and now the system won't boot at all. I have to ship it in for repair. Blinking blue light of death.

Hopefully they'll give us Wind Waker HD first (that one you could then play on the pad at least). Besides, Skyward Sword may very well be the most boring Zelda game ever. You haven't missed much.

Mine, too! I'm on level 60 (%). Took me about 35 minutes to get there.

Sorry to hear this. I have always had good luck with launch hardware, and hope that continues with the Wii U.

I didn't even think of this yet, but with my setup, it would be a pain to unhook the ac adapter.

Does any site have the Wii U AC Adapter for sale separately yet?

That would be a sweet way to play this anywhere in the house.

I have a huge issue that Nintendo needs to fix. I'm playing NSMBU with wiimotes and went to miiverse to check for my messages and you can't navigate the miiverse menus with the wiimotes.

Not really to me, DS flashcards also worked on 3DS. The approach is the same (boxed away, no access to OS functionality).

I had figured, perhaps foolishly, that Nintendo would lock known exploits down now that they have practice with actually making a comprehensive underlying OS layer.

Been doing that on iOS for quite some time. It is a nice feature, but sadly one I can't make use of on the Wii U due to range issues.

The buttons rattle when you flip the GamePad over. I had this happen when I was playing CoD in bed.

The left stick making a loud clicking sound when it is moved from center is far more annoying, though. :(

Wow, my Wara Wara Plaza finally updated and I can see all sorts of people milling about with comments and everything. I think it is kinda cool :)

Is there a way to put the screen in sleep mode? I wanted to watch TV while I was downloading last night, and it was a bit annoying having the screen on while I did so.

I pushed every button in and still heard the rattle. It's weird.

Same, but then I took the stylus out, and held down the four face buttons, as well as R and ZR, and also Start and Select. It was awkward as hell to hold like that and shake, but there was no rattle in doing so.
