Since when did Gearbox get the PS4 specs?StoppedInTracks said:Stop-gap means halfway between PS3 and PS4 power. Very impressive.

it's gotta be the custom resolution on the controller they are talking about.you're going to see textures at a resolution that you haven't seen on [the current] generation
if they manage to do what they did before and sale even as much as 360, I will frame Iwata's and Reggie's picture up my wall.If we cannot sell as well as we expect to during the holiday sales season, it's going to be a grave concern for us. But right now, I think it's premature to say, in terms of the current sales, what the one-year sales (result) will be like.
capability of the Wii, we put more attention and focus on the ability to create new experiences rather than the quality of the graphics. For popular genres in
The Western world such as the shooter games, the picture quality is actually very important. And as a result, we have not been able to provide hardcore video game players with the option they really want with the Wii. That sort of picture-processing issue is going to be solved this time around.
maybe as in picture and processing issue? not as in picture processing.rezuth said:What the hell does that mean? AA?

Well, yeah, but this thread is more friendly than other threads would be because the title doesn't give any info for the trolls to work from. If that were posted as a thread, however, then yes, that's what we'd see.walking fiend said:someone had to say that *shrugs*
guek said:he's probably just guessing. It shows at the very least that the Wii U is considerably more powerful than the current gen, enough so that some things that weren't be possible graphically on the hd-twins will be possible on the Wii U.
At the same time though, it's clearly not powerful enough to blow away the current competition or present the kind of jump people have come to expect between generations.
Whether MS and Sony will do a typical jump between consoles or be more conservative this next round is definitely up in the air though.
When Nintendo would like to ask users to try a specific new game, we should deliver it to their Nintendo 3DS, and possibly Wii U, with their prior consent and recommend that they just try it and, if they like it, they can pay for it. In this way, we need to introduce users to unknown products. Consumers are likely to be convinced to pay about 5,000 yen for a well-established franchise product, but not all the people are willing to pay a certain amount of money for an innovative but unknown product. Now is the time to prepare for these situations. - Satoru Iwata

That's kind of a hilarious backhanded compliment.Wolfie5 said:
I think that he simply misused the term "stop-gap" and doesn't actually mean that it'll be short-lived.ShockingAlberto said:That's kind of a hilarious backhanded compliment.
I mean, it's probably true, but jeez.
Higher LOD, or more games using 1080p?Gearbox said:you're going to see textures at a resolution that you haven't seen on [the current] generation"
He means texture fidelity e.g. the Witcher 2 has higher texture resolution than something like Wii Sports.TunaLover said:Higher LOD, or more games using 1080p?
But he mentions current gen, PS360 included.Mr_Brit said:He means texture fidelity e.g. the Witcher 2 has higher texture resolution than something like Wii Sports.
I meant in comparison to current gen. I only used those two games as they were easy to visualise the difference in textures between them.TunaLover said:But he mentions current gen, PS360 included.

I guess the difference here is that these demos would be downloaded to the system automatically. People wouldn't have to go out of their way to get them, they would just appear on the Wii U/3DS, ready to play. It probably would help get a lot of exposure to otherwise unknown titles.Vinci said:Iwata has discovered game demos? Wow. That's... well... progress.
AceBandage said:I still say that they should just do Push trailers for upcoming games, instead of full demos.
Each week, download a montage of game footage to the system. That would be great marketing.
Covers a wider gambit of games than single demos.guek said:how would that be better?
TheNatural said:I've never understood why companies yet haven't let people download demos of games shown AT E3. I mean, the demos are right there for the media to play, what better way to get the word out about an upcoming release than just releasing it to people DIRECTLY? Plus so many companies get butthurt and backlash at the media over reviews and so on, and even downscaled E3 in the past, I don't understand why they don't just go straight to the people with those demos.
AceBandage said:Covers a wider gambit of games than single demos.
They aren't going to push a dozen demos to a system all at once.
They can push a single video that shows off a dozen games easily, though.
guek said:Well that all depends. A dozen is quite a lot, but 3-4 featured demos once a week or twice a month would be pretty brilliant. I don't think even the 360 gets a dozen high profile games a month.
To make it effective, they're going to need to push it hard though. The second you boot up the wii U for the first time, it HAS to ask you if you want to set up an internet connection. The second you do, it HAS to ask if you want to enable automatic demo downloads. Then it HAS to notify you upon boot up to the dashboard that demos have downloaded. No flashing icon shit. It'd actually be excellent marketing.
I'm sure they'll continue their nintendo week show that features upcoming and releasing products as well. I think people will be much more enticed though with an offer to play a demo rather than watch a video upon start up.
Nintendo U is so much better than Nintendo Wii U. Sets itself apart from the Wii, avoiding the 3DS/DS mistake while still retaining the "U" in "You" and a weird quirky name that's easy to remember.guek said:I'd totally be down for it being called the "Nintendo U"

MrBelmontvedere said:Wii is way too successful to abandon that name.
Well, when you take the Nintendo 3DS'es branding it's pretty obvious that the name can cause more brand confusion than it has to. Now with some hindsight Nintendo could have made a cross-platform name for their casual games so they could have adverts like.MrBelmontvedere said:Wii is way too successful to abandon that name.
