Will they existence of PS5 Pro bring more 8K games to base PS5?

Games still need QA for these kind of things. There could be instances where FX or certain scenes tank your FPS even in games that are not demanding at all. And on console you have limited options so these options got to work. It's not like on PC where you get a list of 20 possible resolutions according to what your system and driver reports to the game and if 8k would cause issues you just switch to a stable resolution.

Given that 8k is rarely needed for a good PPI/view distance ratio, this effort, no matter how little, isn't something most would consider to implement.

And if it's not about PPI that you'd want 8k for, but let's say better anti-aliasing there's so many better options that exist.

The way how modern displays work pushing the resolution will have diminishing returns real quick, up to the point where it's literally non-perceivable anymore.

I know this that's why I'm talking about it happening as a result of devs doing it for the PS5 Pro & flowing over to the base model.

They have 1 game (maybe more) that renders at 8K so they are actually covered in court lol

nope, the system can't output 8K, which is clearly false advertising. it is entirely irrelevant at which internal resolution anything renders

They type of games that can be done at 8k on a base ps5 are the type of games where resolution makes little to no difference.

Someone decides that it’s not worth it to test an 8K version of their pixel art game. The Pro releases. Now it’s worth it.

That whole “legal in California” was a mistake.

8K TV will regress GPUs/Console progress at least 10 years.

I'm glad Nvidai/Sony have designed great upscaling solutions

It's been obvious for years, but Cerny spelled it out in the PS5 Pro announcement video: 3/4 of players are more interested in performance (frame rate) than resolution. There's no value in a developer looking at 8k when players want a smooth 60fps.

You do understand that I'm talking about games that are not pushing these high end consoles right?

Like how would a 8K Tetris hurt you in anyway? Lol

But if the games are simple in nature, then what's the value of 8k? No one has an 8k TV and the market has made clear no one wants one. It's not a feature they can advertise to sell new TVs, so there's no reason to put any resources into it. It's just a complete waste of energy, unlike frame rate.

A light weight game could get some value out of advertising it's 120hz capable. That's a better use of the developer's time.

No.

It’s a Pro model, it doesn’t get its own games and extremely unlikely anything enters development solely because they just really want to tap into that extra power. Even if they did, a) it wouldn’t be done in time and PS6 will be out by then, and b) it would have to work on base PS5, as well

I remember hearing on DF Weekly John saying that it's possible we would see "8k" based games being downsampled to 4k.

I'm not too tech saavy on the downsampling techniques, but that would be interesting if that fit a specific narrative.

Most people are only focused on the latest games
Imagine something like Tales of Symphonia running 8K 60fps on PS5 Pro though.
Even if you don't have an 8K TV, down sampling is a thing too.

These games aren't necessarily saleable though, they're not vector graphics. That would force the art team to update their assets / sprites etc to make additional assets for a minority of people. While a resolution bump kind of makes sense, you still may run into quite a bit of useless testing to make sure your game can even run at 8K let alone 4K.

In my opinion, 3D games would benefit most from an 8K bumps, but it may not be worth the money to test. Not so much 2D, as your sprites would need to be updated to be sharper and higher resolution.

PS5 lacks HDMI bandwidth (32Gb/s vs. full 48Gb/s of HDMI 2.1) for 8k/60hz/10 bit (hdr)/4:2:0

It can only do SDR 8k, that's why support for it was cancelled on standard console (had sticker on the box for years).

They have new HDMI chip in Pro and it supports 8k output.

I personally hope 8k never becomes a focus. 4k is enough to enjoy a crisp image on a large teli.
4K 60FPS with high detail….. I’d like to see them really nail that for the next gen. And just make that the new baseline performance. We should not be seeing 30FPS games any more, on any platform in this day and age.

Reverse groomer.
People are already finding it hard to justify 4k gaming even despite it being around for almost 10 years, between all the people choosing performance mode and going crazy over high FPS.

8k gaming is like a stone rocket, that shit is not taking off man

also whats with that pfp RickMasters RickMasters

8K on PS5?

PS5 can’t even run every game in 4K, let alone 8K. I’m not even convinced the pro will always run games in 4K eventually.
