Will this be the defining holiday season for Xbox One?

Well GT5 sold like over 10 million to GT6's 2+. Maybe people are finally getting fed up with shitty sounds and PS2 cars and tracks on PS3/4. GT7 has a lot more to prove than FM6. If you hang around GTPlanet you'll find a lot of people who are looking elsewhere for their simracing fix, be that Forza, PCars, AC and other PC sims.
Don't think GT6 is the best example since it release during a generation transition.

Yes it can be important, but that still doesn't warrant listing it with exclusives. Destiny still sold a ton on Xbox.

Definitely.

When your sales drop from 10 million to 2, it's time to worry I think. Hardcore fans purchase their favorite games no matter what. Hell, I'll probably hold off of buying a PS4 until GT7 drops, it's the only game that interests me.

Its so strange that we only talk about Holiday season for X1. Whats MS excuse for not releasing any major titles during the other 8-10 months in a year? Serious question, and I don't know why its never brought up..It would be nice if they spread out major releases throughout the year, so I can have something to play between Jan-Sept.

Im just hoping for Halo 5(Don't see it getting delayed, and I would be devastated) and Tomb raider this holiday, could honestly careless about an annual Forza game. QB would be a great post holiday game Q1/Q2 2016 especially If they don't have any plans for a major release post holiday. Just my opinion clearly.

Treyarch's CoD will be the biggest thing this holiday season as far as FPSs goes, rejuvenating the franchise bringing even jaded people back to the fold.

Believe in Treyarch.

No time for Halos.

Yeah that's my biggest issue as a XB1 owner. I haven't turned on my XB1 since i finished SO (i think in december) and probably won't turn it on until TR drops. The constant focus on holiday kinda sucks since i'm way to busy playing other games in Oct/Nov/Dec.

Encourage more hardware sales for the One for those who don't feel the need to wait.

As is, don't think many people will be buying the 360 version anyways.

A delay doesn't do a thing if most people aren't going to be buying either version until the same concentrated shopping week.

And yes, 360 sales will be very low which makes it pretty unfortunate they decided to make it cross gen at all.

What are you talking about?

We all understand you're not a fan of Halo's new direction, but "staying power" really has nothing to do with sales performance.

Assuming it releases before Black Friday, really don't see why people would wait.

That and Battlefront coming they need to release Halo 5 in September to give it some breathing room. I can't see people buying 3 fps games in one month. And they should really space out their releases, bundling 3rd party games seem sell consoles for them in holiday season anyway.

Do not falsely excuse people of trolling, especially when the topic is in discussion.

An online multiplayer game needs staying power, and it's clear Halo's has been waning under 343's direction.

.

Wouldn't surprise me to see fable before September.

Wasn't quantum break delayed and would have filled part of that gap too?

Agree though it's a little empty.

However as people keep saying, exclusives don't sell consoles and other platforms have done just fine with a slightly sparse exclusives release schedule... There have been a good number of 3rd party releases.

So, while I think ms could & should have done better at spreading the releases out, it's not the end of the world.

Oh and if you don't have idarb, get idarb :)

I didn't falsely accuse of anything, any other person from the Halo threads knows your posting agenda.

2nd sentence is a contradiction given what happened to Halo 4. Either way, I'm speaking on however Halo 5's "staying power" turns out, it's not going to affect hardware sales or even software sales. People still buy for the campaign.

EDIT: Your edit pretty much sums up everything in your posting agenda.

No, Sony will do a price cut and announce 2-5 AAA games during E3, Tokyo game show and Gamescom. Sony will not sit back this holiday like last holiday....

Yes, you did. You falsely accused me of trolling when Halo 5's holiday impact is being discussed in this thread before I. Lmao There is no agenda. It is my opinion as a Halo fan connected to pro players and there is many others with the same thoughts.

Halo 4's multiplayer numbers quickly dropped so its staying power has diminished. MCC's numbers did as well, currently floating around 10,000. That is the last two Halo games (IMO 343 have been terrible ambassadors to what makes Halo)..... That is not a contradiction.

Halo 5 will sell well, but Halo's impact on the Xbox brand may very well have a smaller footprint than its predecessors; Titanfall, anyone?

And my edit, is because it's late but all generally with the same points lol.

Why is there all this talk of Sony in an xbox thread anyway?

It can be a defining moment (for good or bad!) without reference to the competition.

For example tv tv tv kinect reveal will be seen as the defining moment by the end of the gen I am sure and that was nothing to do with anyone else. Just Don.

GT will be an instant victory for PS4 but I don't see it making it for 2015. I think we should wait after E3 incase Sony or Nintendo do have some games for 2015 left.

"Defining" - In comparison to what? The other consoles on the market.

Unless we're just under the assumption most XB1 owners are die hard Halo fans, no.

$350(or even $330) could have still been a high entry price plus MCC isn't Halo 5.

But MCC came with an exclusive beta of Halo 5... So their big holiday 2014 push was Halo, this year will be Halo again.

Don't think it really matters, many people aren't going to spend $60 to play 4 old games and 3 week access to a beta.

Nor do I see Halo 5 doing only 660k in first month sales in the US.

This. MS can try and spin the holiday success all they want, but 3rd partys can probably get the actual hard data,

Saying a console is the top selling console in North America during the holiday season isn't spinng as long as (you know) -- the system is truly the top selling console during the Holiday season. The people who are going to "spin it" are some who will look at the news and think the console is possibly a "hotter item" than it really is because of it selling so well during those high selling months.

I doubt they care much for PR.

Don't get your point. More consoles sold = more potential game sales. Companies would view that as good news.

Also like I said, being number one for 2 months doesn't help them get any closer if they are left behind for the other 10 (really 12 because of WW sales) if the piss it away for almost the whole next year.

It does help them to get closer as they would be even further behind during those "other 10 months" if they didn't get the highest selling console months of the year.

Won't most HALO fans already have an xbox one by now?

Ding. Ding.

Bzzz.

I don't understand how this keeps on being said as if there aren't many people who wait for games they are interested in to be released and THEN get the console. I guess everyone who is interested in Uncharted 4 already has a PS4 then right?

Last year: "I don't think many will buy an Xbox One for MCC -- they are old games. Many will wait for Halo 5."
This year: "Halo 5 won't help. Most Halo fans already have an Xbox One."

It's silly.

I wouldn't count Sony out for an exclusive this holiday just yet, E3 is just around the corner. But I'm sure MS will smash it the way things are looking.

Won't most HALO fans already have an xbox one by now?

I'd imagine a good chunk of them were disillusioned by X1 and bought a PS4 instead, or simply didn't buy into next gen.

It will definitely be interesting. There is a high probability the game releases in late September since November will be Battlefront/COD/AC Victory month.

By September, how many consoles does MS have on the market? 14.5m? 16m at most? With the Sept. push making it reach those numbers?

Given that the console is a predominantly U.S/UK market oriented console, for the game to reach 6-7m units sold it will have to do extremely well attach rate wise. Not to mention review wise - but I am sure the media is ready for that.

A wiki, with no cited source for the number no less.

It does and it's banned on GAF.

Well, as long as it sells ... why shouldn´t they ?

But actually I think they will go with a Rise of the Tomb Raider bundle this year.

Most hardcore HALO fans already purchased their console with MCC. (Sure there were some waiting for HALO 5)

But I think it´s better to get some of those waiting for Uncharted 4 to get an xbox one with Tomb Raider.

HALO 5 will also sell enough without a bundle.

With the news of Zelda for Wii U not reaching it's 2015 goal for release and Uncharted 4 being delayed until 2016, both PS4 and Wii U both lost their big holiday exclusive game to next year, while Halo 5, Xbox One's big holiday exclusive is set to launch this year. With neither PS4 or Wii U having a big exclusive for the holiday, could this be the holiday season for the Xbox One to really shine?

Well, as long as the next COD, Assassin's Creed(??), NBA2K, Madden and major third party game come to PS4 as well, I don't think Sony will have anything to worry about. Exclusives generally do not sell systems anymore. The third party games are what most casual gamers buy consoles for nowadays.

Lineup looks really bad this year, especially after Tomb Raider was confirmed timed. I wouldn't buy an Xbox One for Halo 5.

Well, since timed has not really been defined in terms of weeks and systems TR will still be a good argument for MS in the holiday season. There probably will be a PC version later on like Ryse and DR3. But you have to be delusional if you think there will be PS4 version within one year after the Xbox systems get it. I highly doubt there will be one at all.

But yeah, Halo isn't a big thing anymore. PS4 users will get CoD and be fine.
Forza 6 might be great but it's not a system seller.

After E3 we'll all know more

First point, it's spin because they make it seem like they won the holidays, they did not. If you remove all qualifiers (as far as I know) they sold less than the competition. If you start adding qualifiers and then release a twisted up PR release, that is spin. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying MS spin is new or somehow different from other companies, just saying that people who actually do the business knows that the PS4 world wide won every month and might actually be 2-1 sales currently.

second point,
Bgamer90 said:
It matters for advertisements/PR (especially since NPD stats usually get a lot of attention), and game support. It's hard for game companies to ignore the system that's in the top spot in North America. Hence why MS is going to more than likely do all that they can to be in that spot. Being #1 overall (worldwide) is obviously better but it's looking highly impossible for MS to do that (especially since they've never done it in any previous gen).
You say here it's important for pr and 3rd parties, 3rd parties know who actually sold more consoles overall during that time.

Last point, sure some people hold out, but lets not pretend a majority of the hardcore halo fan base did not pick up an xbox one before this point. also I agree that people who think uncharted 4 will be this huge system seller based on name alone might be disappointed, unless it is some huge revolutionary thing. The only difference is there has already been a halo on next gen to drive halo fan sales, no uncharted so far.

Everybody said Titanfall would move massive amounts of hardware... Everybody said, no people are just waiting for a titanfall bundle... Titanfall came and that month they sold less consoles.
