Just finished Death Note and I loved it. I'll break it down to 3 sections.

EPs 1 - 15/16 - amazing

16 - 23/24 - eh. It was alright.

24 - 37 - really good but not as good as the first few episodes.

That being said, L is such an awesome character.

M

Edit: I was told code grass was similar so I'll try to watch that soon.

Sorry, on mobile

Miss Lonely Yesterday - Arekara, Kimi wa

This was awesome!!! Touch the after years.

And someone who returned from abroad:
Here comes a new challenger.
Next step USFIV.

The story was not that great, but the fan service was awesome. I would love to see more Adachi stories after the end, since he likes to reach the Koushien and end the story. Can't you just give me my happy ending Adachi?
The Nishimura trolling was hard to take, poor Nishimura. And the whole Minami and Tatsuya misunderstanding too, I can't believe Minami would believe that bitch.

And because of the advice of best character we get this:

Touch: Crossroad - Kaze no Yukue

Tatsuya goes to the U.S. to play baseball, to a little team called Green Town Emeralds.

Not Punch(Pinch) with a blond tomboy who likes baseball.
9o9PMTE.png

Not Koutarou(
didn't help they had the same voice actor
)

Emeralds mascot was awesome.
This one was pretty nice too. I want more. Tatsuya in the major league, please? =D

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 15

This show just keeps getting better and better.

iAXSUKhMX7KDm.jpg

When I was first watching this episode, this shot stood out to me as an obvious "she's captive to him" metaphor, but it takes on much more interesting significance as the episode develops. Gamillian politics is shockingly interesting.

The main focus of this episode was showing off the might of the Gamillian fleet, while turning some hints dropped a few episodes back into motion. We obviously know as viewers that they are a powerful empire, but between the putdown of a backwater rebellion and their assault on the Yamato, this episode shows them off at a horrifying scale.

What anchors the final battle together, beneath the CG laser show spectacle, are the closeups of these two commanders, intense men matching wits and sheer balls in a life-and-death struggle. Characters are the core of any great story, and Yamato never forgets that.

The climactic confrontation at the end of the episode possesses an intensity and desperation I've rarely experienced elsewhere. Both the staging of the Yamato's desperate run, and the contrast of the crew's low morale with this struggle, really raise the stakes. Every time I think this show is as good as it's going to get, it finds a new way to top itself.

Looking forward to learning more about the security team next episode.

The fight this episode was pretty great, fast, and intense. The new deck introduced (wanted more Oracle Think Tank as lots of my favorite cards are in it) is actually pretty fun. The way the cards connect with each other and their names is quite compelling. Favorite of the bunch was Witch of Owls, Paprika, Eternal Goddess Iwanagahime, Goddess of Self-Sacrifice, Kushinada, and for Aichi the Liberator Flame Mane Stallion. The ending
could have at least kept the next match a bit secret. though still chuckled at the silhouettes shown, how will Naoki fare with either Toshiki Kai, Miwa, or Morikawa?

I never got the Code Geass comparison myself. The only real thing the two have in common are having unrealistically smart protagonists (not a bad thing though) that want to change the world for the better and have to commit evil actions to achieve their goal. Except Lelouch isn't really like Light.

Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito 2

This episode was a lot better than the last just because of the numerous character interactions that occurred. Akito is still bland as hell and Leila is obviously the most interesting character. Her character archetype can only end in tragedy and seeing how that will unfold as her interactions with her soldiers throughout the episode made me feel intrigued. In fact, there's a lot of dynamics that bring people together as well as tear them apart.

Characters aside, I found the overall plot very interesting and introduces a ton of new stuff that has great potential. In fact, I sort of wish this was the first episode because there wasn't much potential in the first episode that lended to how great this series might end up being. At its core I still feel like BnK is pretty much a war tragedy unfolding with a hint of Geass elements. While the Geass ability is in the story, I feel as if it's not really the essential aspect that ties together the entire story. You could've labeled it something else and it wouldn't have mattered. It's the idea of political conflict, internal strife, racial fissures, and the two military forces clashing that truly make this series shine. In that respect I appreciated the short but meaningful action/drama experience had to offer.

I'm beginning to feel tired of the airborne combat style of Akito and while the mecha action was very cool to watch the rotating camera just gets obnoxious with repeated use. Also seeing Sutherland knockoffs in CG just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but that's because of nostalgia.

Overall, this episode was good and now I'm even more excited for the next episode.

Can I get a heads up? Is this set of OVAs following the same timeline as the Lelouch Rebellion? i.e, does it happen after R2?

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
So The new SAO wasn't a new series. It's seems its a long recap episode rather than a special even. Debating whether I should even waste the time watching it now since I just finished rewatching the whole series just days ago.

Note that the notes for a few animes are slightly off, because I had watched them before even knowing MAL existed. (And was also when I started watching anime and watched some weird stuff like Futakoi and I My Me! Strawberry Eggs.)

Watch the last 20 minutes.

You're missing: final season of Aria, Cromartie, Trapeze, 2 and a bit series of Banner of the Stars, Sketchbook, Summer Wars and both series of Sunred.

I did watch the last season of Aria I just never got around to adding it. Same with Summer Wars.

The rest of the stuff yeah. I didn't really like Crest enough to keep going. Same with the bit I wathed of Cromartie I watched a few episodes of Trapeze but dropped it for whatever reason.

I have no idea what Sunred is. I'll add it to the queue though.

Watch the last 20 minutes.

Seconding this, the first part is mired somewhat between Shugu being stuck with the Ms. Fanservice role and the rest of being stuff we already know. Hell, they didn't even execute on the one joke I thought they'd do quite well IE: "You (Silica) remind me of my little sister"

And then, second half, they have Klein dash off because he reasons
the only person who'd give quests under water is a mermaid
and then it's all good. Because I love goofy VA jokes like that.

That said, bring on

Sword Art Online Extra Edition

I skipped to the last twenty minutes as recommended, and it wasn't that bad. It turns out that without high stakes and romantic drama SAO is just an action comedy about a bunch of friends futzing around in an MMO. I daresay if the rest of the show were like this it would be basically tolerable.

Which is why the show is such a damn tragedy.

Sword Art Online Extra Bullshit
So how do you frame a clip show so that you can trick people into watching and perhaps paying for this thing?

mMflud9l.jpg

Here's Mr. Exposition, Chief of Exposition of the Exposition Department, here to give them a reason to shit out the entire series in a movie.

Oh, but that wouldn't be enough to get people to buy this. You can't ignore the harem!
ZiGSTl9l.jpg

Hey, they all have boobs except the short one. Isn't that funny?

It's like a one-two punch of shit. One where you're reminded of all the terrible plot that led Kirito to be the BEST GAMER EVER and the other where you're reminded that these girls all fell on top of his rod and want to ride him.

God, it's all coming back to me. I still hope that Kawahara doesn't *believe* in any of this bullshit and that he has found the perfect way to get into the heart of the otaku and stroke his "ego" in order to sell shitty fiction, much in the way that I just assume Stephanie Meyer actually hates her reading audience because there is no way that she thinks her writing is actually any good.

I can only hope that because I'm just reminded of the fact that the anime itself has no self-awareness. That it expects me to give a shit about any of these characters and their lust for the most perfect man ever. That it expects me to just buy into the shitty OreImo angst to the point that in the new material, they do their best to push it hard because I'm assuming (pseudo)-incest sells the most and Sugu is the "fan favourite" character of the franchise. Even in what amounts to a pointless OVA with no ties to the series beyond setting up the sequel season in a 5 second Marvel-esque tag after the credits, they just can't fucking help themselves. Fucking hell.

The people who like this thing will continue to like it. I'm sure they'll like the second season too. But for me, this was a reminder of everything that was contemptuous and insidious of the original series. Is it the worst thing on the internet since child porn? Apparently some crazy asshole said it was earlier in the year, so I'll have to defer to his opinion. All I can say that this series still represents everything that is terrible about anime in the 2010s. It's not the moefication of heroines or the rise of girl-only slice of life shows (because people who reduce Hidamari Sketch to "girls being cute for male audiences" can just go fuck themselves), it's this need to encourage the otaku audience into self-gratification through a reification of their hobbies. Buying games and figures and BDs and doujin and body pillows and onaholes are sacred activities to be praised and encouraged, because the otaku will feel good about themselves while continuing to contribute to the churn of the industry.

But you know what? Maybe this is the anime that we deserve, because even something like Yamato 2199 can't fully escape the churn of the modern anime industry.

I'm sure someone will point that I watched a show I called BoobJoust, and if you count the five minutes it takes for me to go through each episode, then yes, I did. But the thing is that BoobJoust, and I presume the other harem shows this season, don't insist on the importance of their characters or their plot. The directors or writers or whomever know enough that they are just hocking merchandise, than any dramatic beats are to create a serviceable story, not because they have a story that is actually worth telling. Imagine a shitty harem with the gravitas of 12 Years a Slave. That is what's wrong with SAO in a nutshell.

Too conclude, insert Asuna joke here.

Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
Why do you watch the show if you know how much you are going to hate it? You're just feeding Kawahara's wallet man.

You want to tell people their taste in anime sucks. But to tell people their taste in anime sucks you actually need to watch the show.

At least I think that's what's going on.

I will admit, with bland shows like BoobJoust, it's hard to feel worked up enough to actually give the show some thought beyond the show being about a guy who has busty women who all want to be impaled by his lance. And IS2 was such a massive disappointment that, other than saying how terribly scripted each episode has been, there's not much there to talk about as well.
I actually had forgotten much of SAO though, inasmuch as I remembered that I hated it, but not exactly why. The movie reminded me of all the reasons, for better or (in actuality) for worse.

You must really hate IS2 to write that much. I didn't know you hated it so much! lol =P
IS2 is bad, SAO is vile.
Actually, I suppose I appreciate the fact that IS2 actually lacks a coherent plot, because I can see the whole clone sister Phantom Task crap being just as bad as anything SAO can throw at me.

You know... I actually didn't read much about what firehawk thought of the last 20 minutes of the episode. But I guess it doesn't matter.

Johnny-sensei's reaction to fat Ichigo was the best.

Mizuki says she's worried that Ichigo can't keep up with her, but I think deep down she's worried that Ichigo will overtake her as the biggest idol.

Also I'm not sure how lewdness is something that just started to plague the anime industry. It's been around for decades. They used to do tacky, honestly disgusting full frontal nudity in anime and it was way more gross back then than it is now because at least now the 14 year old girls will be wearing at least a towel or a bathing suit or whatever.

yoakuza quartet hana no uta 13

fun show with amazing animation and some of the best faces of the year.

magician sister is the best :3

And hime's embarrassed mode is soo hnnngh.

Crest+Banner of the Stars
Hidamari Sketch
The Tatami Galaxy
Kino's Journey
Darker than Black
Black Lagoon
Detroit Metal City
Genshiken
Futakoi Alternative (I know you've seen the first series but this was somehow a much, much better product that's nothing alike)
Gintama
Hajime no Ippo
Yamato 2199
Spice and Wolf
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
Seirei no Moribito
Gunbuster + Diebuster

That's most things I can think of that are generally fairly high ranking and missing from your list. Probably a few missing which others can no doubt provide!
