Winter Anime 2016 |OT2| Bellariology, Puellology and Simulacrumology

Yeah but it's weirdly specific with Hunter x Hunter - it's a kind of complexity creep rather than a straight power creep (although that clearly occurs too). The combat goes from having this very specifically, closely followed set of rules all the way through to what might as well be JoJo level stand nonsense. It's just kind of funny that Togagashi gave his rule set the backdoor of 'specialist' and then eventually abused the hell out of that backdoor.

While the specialist stuff gets pretty weird *cough* Greed Island *cough* it still doesn't really touch on the later JoJo parts when it comes to being nonsense.

One day I'm gonna write a big post about Shonen powers, mainly about how Bleach sucks and JoJo is good because they both use cool and abstract powers but Kubo is a hack and can never actually show it during fights so everyone has to explain their own abilities for no reason.

Fairy Tail ep. 33-41 <Tower of Heaven arc>
Yeah, you were right Nintendoman, this arc was pretty awesome. We finally got a ton of background on Erza and what made her who she is today. The episodes flipped often between character background, current events, as well as further indication of what's to come in the future. As has been mentioned, they do play-up the "Power of Friendship" trope quite a lot throughout the arc as they did for the Phantom Guild arc, but it works and will continue to work as it continually gives credence to what they are fighting for. Friends, lovers, father figures, it doesn't matter to this group, as they battle to do the right thing constantly and takes along the ride for the great moments as they come.

Also, as a side note, Natsu continues to grow into what will be a massively OP character as we finally got to see him unleash some massive power in this episode. Either way, this arc had some great twists, battles and feels throughout the arc and was really excellent over-all, especially the battle with Jaleel; that Natsu part was dope as hell and even I got pumped during that thing as it reverted me back into my childhood routing for the good guys to win; yeah, it was good...

Yup, this was awesome!

Can I also say how awesome the theme music is and I love how they can slow it down or speed it up to transition from action moments to sad moments to fit the mood. Sooo good.

i hope you enjoyed the formula, because it will be repeated ad museum for the rest of the series. There are several reasons I stopped caring about fairy tail and honestly I hink it's a series that ranges from mediocre to bad, even among Shonen manga

Well if you like power of friendship boosts and Natsu being OP, I think it's fair game to say you'll enjoy the rest of the series.

Erased- 9-10

This is dogshit. Satoru has to be one of the stupidest twenty-something year olds in existence.
It's really more offensive than usual because he's literally from the future and should know everything (all the clues, all the suspects), yet he's an idiot.

That is what's really frustrating about the later developments in Erased. There's nothing wrong with the killer logically fitting all the facts we know. There is something wrong with having the protagonist be too stupid to work it out. If Satoru could have pieced it together himself it would have been far less frustrating.

Not sure, but wasn't it explained in the mange that his thought process had started to revert back into that of the 10 year old Satoru because of the revival?

We'll see how it goes from here, but the past two major arcs have been pretty damn good. I'm going to hate the next one because the focus is on that douchebag grandson. Master is a good/fun character and I do not want to see him leave the caste...

So amazon just bought worldwide rights to a noitamina show from next season.

We live in interesting anime times I guess.

Wonder how this will work given amazon streaming is only in a handful of countries (will they sub license it?). And will it be simulcast.

The Fighting Festival arc is relatively short, it finishes at episode 48.

I think you'll be satisfied with it.

Osomatsu - 23

I like the format of connected transition between the different events. First one clicked well with me, as for one I am guilty of having been involved in such mind games. It is usually great when the brothers are plotting against each other.
Second part, while I didn't find it as funny as the first, is something I'd like to see more of from a creative standpoint. This show certainly has some weird stuff happening.

If its coming to amzn in april, how wouldnt it be a simulcast?

Someone pointed out this great attention to detail in Heavy Object Episode 22

Note that instead of "Warning" or "Danger", the alert reads "Prudence".

And these guys are all French or uses French as their main language.

Well maybe its coming to amazon jp in april and the us later with a dub. Just like ajin on netflix.

Still...sucks that folks outside japan and us will likely have to watch it through fansubs. Lucklily I still have a US prime membership for some reason.

Seriously though, I get nobody wants to or may not have time to help with the preview thread, but can someone throw together a really quick banner for me, using images from the upcoming shows? I can't do it from work, or else, I'd just do it myself, lol.... Pretty please?

He even saw the guy on a suspect list. What the fuck. Instead of ruling out the people he knows aren't involved like his mom, he tosses out the entire list. The writing almost feels forced into making him an idiot. He knows what the older version of the killer looks like and instead of investigating the one guy who looks like the younger variant of the person he saw, he just lol nope'd it.

The amount of people with something resembling photoshop skills is scant, I'd imagine.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

What about
Nanika? That shit had a 100 page instruction manual. The effects might not be as weird as some stands but it was an almost infinitely scaling non-Nen power that was literally designed as an obfuscated puzzle.

not a winter anime but fuck it, I've finally built up the courage to watch Your Lie in April, even though I emotionally prepared myself for this its still pretty hard to watch, i got 4 or 5 eps to go till I reach the end. It's going to be a rough ride but I must endure!

The first scene was out of Jojo.

Yay, the show got right the Physics around thunder and fully-enclosed, metal vehicles!

The scientist guy continues to be weird with his "sister" and completely suspicious. And the love triangles intensify.

I wish I was good at Photoshop.

Speaking of which, does anyone know how useful GIMP is?

House of Five Leaves

Hmmm, I liked him and I'm usually put off by his kind. But don't let that deter you from continuing with show cause it has some surprise for you in this regard.

I have no intention of quitting watching. Even if I'm not liking the show as much as I thought I would, it's hardly bad.

That's really unfortunate. What's the point of introducing this complicated system if you're just going to abandon it anyway?

Yeah you're right, but the non-Nen abilities that are starting to show via
the Calamities
seem to be something else

hey, its put to good use in Yorknew.

Ajin 9
Nagai is such a badass, I feel bad for Koji.
I wonder how the anime compares to the manga, once the anime ends I'll surely start to read it.

Kyoko got a commercial already? Where does it go from here? I didn't expect her to succeed so quickly. Yeah her and Moko becoming friends was so sweet. And Yes more president. He literally pays a guy to throw confetti for him so he can make a dramatic entrance, what a guy.

And Ren finding excuses to spend time with Kyoko the sly devil. Loved the little comic book visuals in the car scene.

Why do people in anime?: When they gossip behind people's back they speak loud enough for the person they're talking about to hear. Surely that defeats the purpose of gossiping behind someone's back.

i might have time later tonight (like 9 hours from now >.<) as I need to make a new series of spring 2016 thing anyways that will take me a bit, after I make that I can easily look over stuff though but it will likely take me around an hour to do that so it would be around 3am central time when I would be free (10 hours from now or so()

now now as crazy as the president is did you not think that he might have an eye for unpolished gems :p?

as for the gossop sometimes you do it on purpose to make sure the person knows what you think but also make sure they know you don't want to talk about it with them.

Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn

270

I want that sword.

Let's get the big thing out of the way shall we, Gogeta. Gogeta is pretty badass. Just a shame that the flim only gives him like 3 minutes of screen time (time that could have been taken for Goten and Trunks' antics). Prehaps we'll see him again in DBS

...So what about the rest of the film?

Well the villain is a shameless Majin Buu rip off with no personality. And the whole "past villains escape from hell" thing falls flat. Oh and the stuff involving not Hitler, Goten and Trunks dragged on after a while. You could have used that time for Gohan, Videl and the rest of the villans but nope, we get their bollocks instead. They don't even fuse until after Gogeta shows up. They continue to be the worst part of every DBZ film they are in.

That in mind, the film is solid otherwise. Janemba, despite having zero personality, is entertaining to watch due to his fighting abilities. The action scenes are great. They're being unique and very original. Helps that after the Broly sequels it is a much needed breath of fresh air. The animation is pretty damn good as well with some unique environments and design choices. I found Veku (or Yajikai given that Schemmel and Sabat use their voices for Veku) to be amusing.

So with that, there is only one DBZ film left before the new films/OVA.

That would be awesome. I've already rearranged and retitled things a little, but here is a bulk of it. (The rest is in my Work email for editing, saved as a draft, lol) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

House of Five Leaves can be summed up as "This was pretty good but it could've been a lot better"

I loved that one. The manga "continues" the story if you're interested.
I say "continues" because the anime has it's own ending, even though most of it follows the manga

So somebody have brought up that they had issues with how Fafner: Exodus ended. Can they articulate it before I start writing my review? I'm somewhat curious. Thanks.

What could they have done except maybe give it more time/episodes? Like i can't imagine any way to alter the story or characters that would have improved it that much.

Though it did have some really questionable music choices at times.

Shirayukihime - 22

I never would've guessed that Kiki was going to play a big part of this episode, with the way it started out. More Kiki is always a good thing though.
I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and comedic banter between the characters, which all the more emphasizes my dislike for the played-up dramatic chase near the end due to the possibility of a misunderstanding. Dude acted like she was going to get kidnapped again!

Apparently people are upset because Attack on Titan S2 was "delayed" because of some interview with the director and Isayama noting that the anime is still too close to the manga or something. I don't know how you can delay something with no footage or release date, but ok.

They probably felt there should be way more distance between the anime pacing and the manga considering every chapter comes out monthly.

They better not pull another Battle of Trost nonsense again. I may have marathoned that portion since it didn't bother me as much compared to watching it weekly and I had some time to kill, but there is no reason to have an episode title with PART 9 in it.

Some supposed interview, anyway. The only source I could find was some KDramaStars clone-looking site.

I think they said something about 2016, last year.
For what it's worth, there was an (actual) Isayama x Araki interview in the latest issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine where they discussed the second TV series and showed some sketches. So they are working on it, at least.

Totally 2017.

season 2 is going to be boring as fuck for the most part

The human vs human stuff should look amazing.
