Konosuba Season 2, Episode 7:

It is actually kind of amazing how much better this season is in relation to the last one.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
AniMegumin of the season is obviously going to be Konosuba.

Yakuza 0 sidequests

I need to buy this shrink wrapped pornograhpy for this small child, otherwise I'll just be another lying adult. However I need to avoid these young ladies, and my female coworker too, less I be labeled a deviant...

...Perhaps...this is what it really means to be a man.

Akiba's Trip update: This week's episode was about wrestling so obviously it was bad. Next week is a Yugioh knock off so maybe things will get better.

Ok, sure, more shota is bad, but can I just mention how weird it is to me that everyone is so cool with Tohru being a murderer?

Cause she's killed people, man. Like, to her, slaughtering innocents is fun.

I wouldn't harp on it, but they keep having serious moments based around that fact.

This was a good episode though.

I will say, while Yakuza 0 is pretty good so far, the property management aspect of it is confusing.

First off, I don't know if there's a way to actually see what properties you can buy, other than literally walking around town pressing your body up against the glass and seeing if the examine icon comes up.

That and you can upgrade properties with advisers, and some advisers are better at certain types of properties. Alright fine, why exactly is the adviser's store expertise displayed with various symbols? Is a double circle better than a triangle? Is a triangle better than a regular circle? I'm guessing an X means they're just bad at that property? It cost money to upgrade so it seems weird that they were asks us to experiment to discover this.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Come on now dimb, you know that's not how it works.

You don't watch Rakugo because you're interested in rakugo.

Shhh, he's about to embark on the next arc of this great adventure.

I want to know his natural unadulterated feelings towards the Suguha stuff.

To this day, I still think the scene with them at the door was very touching and heartfelt.

and it's not incest, but yeah, they are totally not "blood brother/sister" lol

Konosuba 7

I don't think I've ever seen an anime that was enhanced so much by the quality of it's voice acting. I keep harping on the VA, but it's so completely obvious that the voice actors are just having a BLAST voicing this anime and having a ton of fun with it. And for a comedy the variation in acted lines and dialogue as well as the infusion of fun they throw into their lines, it just brings everything out so much more.

As people said this is a set up episode so not a lot actually happens but it was made up for it with some fantastic faces or animated moments, such as Aqua fake slapping Kazuma with money or the bullying section. The small moment of Kazuma drain touching Darkness while she was happily reminiscing was surprisingly hilarious because of Darkness' VA shifting so quickly from warm nostalgia to screaming shock from the touch to anger when throttling him.

There's also the small touches that are running jokes or small things that you don't realize keep happening such as Kazuma continuously putting his finger on a girl's lips to stop them from talking so he can say something (he thinks is) handsome and dreamy like he does to Wiz in this episode.

Even episodes where nothing really happens are entertaining for this show. I rewatched the first season recently and while I still enjoy it, this season seems to have hit the humor it was trying for in the first season out of the park. It knows what it's doing, what it's good at and what kind of laughs it goes for and it just makes it all the stronger.

People like wrestling in anime because it's not like actual wrestling which is regularly awful.

I say this as someone who tape-traded, has been to over 50 indy shows and wrote for a wrestling website.

This is the equivalent of old school anime watchers here saying that anime is bad, am I right?

Not that I like wrestling, but the mix of both your background and your opinion of saying it's awful reminded me of it.

+1

Maybe because I've been watching a lot of Gintama lately, but it's the closest comparison I can make where like it, the voice actors have grown with roles so much its completely enhanced the experience.

Konosuba Season 2 07

Everyone is saying, "Poor Aqua", but I say poor Yunyun. It's always hilariously sad to see what happens with her in each episode she's in.

Aqua is the Sweet Dee of this show, I can't feel sorry for her lol.

It's a shame that Lucoa has essentially turned out to be cheap comic relief, her debut had made me think that she was deeper than that. Until the next dragon, Fafnir is easily the best supporting character.

Cute episode, I think I liked the Comiket stuff more.

Eh, I'm being a little hyperbolic and critical but honestly you're not that far off. Moreso wrestling has moved in a direction that leaves me not enjoying it as much and the types of wrestling alternatives that I did enjoy are either no longer the same, not as easy to find or not as good as they once were. That is of course working under the assumption that when I was into wrestling there wasn't a lot of crap wrestling which oh ho boy that is not true at all. It's just that I grew up watching WWF/WCW and liking it as a kid, got brought by my dad to a comic convention that had tapes of 80s/90s Japanese wrestling like AJPW and such and started to get into that stuff, went to college and got into the indy scene and fell in love with late 90s/early 00s RoH and then CHIKARA, among other indies, and then when they sort of fell off tried to get back into WWE and...couldn't. Which is unfortunate because you have guys that I'd drive to NY to see wrestle in front of 50 people finally making it to a grand stage of 1000s and...I just didn't like or care about it.

I think a close approximation would be like being an enormous fan of a manga then seeing it get adapted and it removes everything you liked about the manga.

Obviously, I'm just very curmudgeonly about my wrestling opinions and certainly do have a "I liked this wrestler when they were wrestling in pool halls, now they're mainstream and boring" tint to it, but I won't begrudge anyone who likes it now. It just isn't doing the things that got me into wrestling in the first place or kept me as a fan for so long, which is what it is.

Maidragon 7

Fun and warm episode. Not...entirely certain why they threw Shouta and Lucoa into the beach episode but they didn't really do much so it is whatever. Did work as a nice set up for the Lucoa cameo in the Comiket section as she's being thrown out for being too lewd.

Beach episode was kept from being fan-servicey and had the moments talking about family, so that was a good set up for some later events.

I'm glad they kept that random moment of Kanna eating that crab, I don't know why I found it so cute.

It's a shame that Lucoa has essentially turned out to be cheap comic relief, her debut had made me think that she was deeper than that.

Lucoa definitely has some deeper stuff to her, but they've been very coy about playing it out in the manga so for the moment she's just comic relief with brief glimpses of something else going on. Which is unfortunate because I feel like they're losing a lot of her mystery and "oeuvre" by playing a long game with her and not giving people enough scraps so she's basically "has boobs"

Fate/Zero 01

So let me lay down my experience and thoughts on the Fate series.

I hate the word "fate." Fate is dumb and it sucks. The concept itself, of the Holy Grail War, would be salvageable in a better series but as it stands in Fate its just "Uhhh, a bunch of heroes from the past all get summoned to fight for the Dragon Balls. Also they are all based on classes because I played too many video games. Also they are all localized in one small town in Japan despite incorporating people from England and Ireland because my universe is very small and everyone needs to know each other." Don't "actually" me because I really don't give a shit. That would be passable if any of the characters are likable, which they aren't. Shirou or whatever his name is seems to be the prototype for every bad LN main character that no one likes. Turns out he is the super secret best mage in the world despite being an obviously shitty mage, and all the women love him because his terrible dialogue is hot, or something. Rin sucks. Saber is like Rei, but way worse. Also the art is bad and I hate the character designs. For a fapbait porn VN you'd figure it'd look better. At least Grand Order can produce some good pixiv art.

Oh yeah, I used to hate VNs, probably because people convinced me to play Fate/Stay Night and it had Star Wars Prequel-tier stilted dialogue (and bad art) so I stopped. Obviously if your series is based almost exclusively on characters talking to each other, you should probably make it enjoyable to follow the conversation and the characters and interesting to look at (e.g. Monogatari, Thunderbolt Fantasy, Silence of the Lambs.) I came around on games like 999, Phoenix Wright and Danganronpa later, obviously. But if you're going to be one of those people and claim that puzzle/investigation games aren't really visual novels no matter how much text they have in them then fine, I guess I can say VNs are bad again and they all have bad art. I didn't watch the Deen series nobody likes and I tried watching Ufotable's UBW and got 6 or so episodes in before tapping out. So I decided to continue dumping on Fate, 'cuz it's bad. But since even people who do the same like Fate/Zero and it's often compared to Thunderbolt Fantasy and I am 100% certain Urobotchi is a better writer (certainly at dialogue) then Nasu I'll give it a shot. I have a lot of bad things to say about Fate but I really intend to give this an honest shot, since people whose tastes I align with or respect praise it.

Now going in I knew the first episode was something about walking in circles and talking, so I had my expectations set, but I didn't expect it to be so fucking literal. I forgot to mention this universe is too up its own ass on lore and switching between 6 different characters constantly swapping scenes (which don't look all that great) isn't the best way to introduce your series. Most stuff being info dumped I could have known from osmosis or reading the summary that would come on the slipcover of a book, but the stuff I actually wanted to get explained like the magic worm room are skipped over but eh whatever. People seem to like this for the Servants and not the Masters.

BIG O ON BD! FINALLY! :D

Yeah, Sentai finally solicited that. It's too bad the first season is upscaled; it would have looked much nicer if they actually restored it from the film. Season 2 was mastered in digital SD though, so there's nothing that could have been done to help that one.

it's likely not going to sell well enough to bother completely restoring it.

I mean it's an average mech show that only has any sort of following because it was on toonami.

I mean I don't think I own it yet and thus i will buy it eventually, and it's been 10+ years since I saw it so I might watch it again but it's a rather unexciting release to most people.

wake me up when Maisen ikkoku gets a new release and I don't have to spend over $500 to buy it :p ( I also screwed up with honey and clover so hopefully that one will be rescued some day as well as I was waiting for it to go on sale and then before I pulled the trigger part 1 went out of print @_@)

Well, I liked it well enough. :p I personally think Sunrise didn't want to restore only half the show, since the second half would have to be upscaled anyway.

I could see Discotek going after Maison Ikkoku eventually, though Rumiko Takahashi properties are difficult to acquire. As for Honey and Clover, I don't know who has the international rights to it. It might be Fuji TV, who are pretty open to working with overseas companies.

Unfortunately there's no way to see which properties you can buy other than reading a guide: http://www.khhsubs.com/rggzero/moneyisland.html

For the other question, x means awful, triangle is mediocre, one circle is good and two cricle is excellent. It's definitely pretty boring though but the quickest way to grab cash in the game other than Mr Shakedown.

Well, that hat answered some questions and was probably the best and most coherent episode of the series so far. It also contained the moment captured by the gif that made me watch the show, lol.

Well, I finished Bakuman. I read the manga alongside the anime and I'm glad they skip that one arc. The first one with Nanamine was already more than enough.
Anyway, I really enjoyed it overall. Saiko's relationship to Miho was always a weak part of the series and I didn't really get that much out of the last couple of episodes.

Halfway through the second season I started picking up on lines that made me think that either Saiko or Miho would pass away before they could fulfil their dream, but that kinda went nowhere. I was almost afraid it was too on the nose when the characters in Reversi died.

I'm gonna check out some of the specials next, like the PCP volume they put out.
