I will never understand the appeal of things like MAL or Hummingbird.
It's a practical application that I use all the time. I want to watch something new? I'll check out all the shows I've added to my watch list. I want to recommend something? Order by rating and search accordingly.

I would think the benfits of having a catalog of everything you've watched and planned to watch would speak for itself.

Edit:
Perhaps but I also know I am too lazy to update something like MAL.
Ahh, I guess I don't blame you. I think it's kind of fun, personally.

Madoka 3

Thoughts during episode

- This kid certainly doesn't look healthy. I predict a wish forming...
- Yup. This is a hospital. She's blushing. I see where this is going.
- Oh..... OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH. Okay.
- Okay OP. Madoka is in middle school. She's underage, alright! Even by anime standards. So this naked pressing up against herself isn't doing it for me.
- Why you have no chin? Dead eyes. Oh god dead eyes!
- That's.... one way to make a wish. Kind of looks like the cat thing took advantage of her situation at the time.
- Man transfer student. Aren't you being a little melodramatic.
- Grief Seed! Oh noes!!! Blue Hair wants to stay back. I know what happens next...
- Ah what? Not Transfer-chan.
- Lamest wish ever Madoka.
- :SDBurton again?
- Mami talked her out of that wish? Good.
- Super Ultra Mega Magic Mami Transformation Activate!
- That was..... AWESOME! The speech was lame but that gunslinging was amazing.
- Oh good job Mami you totally got------............... OH F**K!!!!! OH F**K!!!!!!!!
- This is....... dark.
- Ahhhhhhhhhhhh crap.
I liked her
.
-
Can you wish people back to life? Otherwise this really sucks
.
- This ED is cool and the song is super cool. I like it.

The rollercoaster fucking begins; it's all downhill from here.

So I'm curious. Does anybody here consider their favorite comedy tv show to be an anime vs say a western comedy series?

Like personally as much as I've enjoyed comedy manga/anime, I don't think I could say I'd consider one higher in my favorite list than say Arrested Development (what new season?), Archer, Parks and Rec or early Community.

Probably not, I can't think of any comedy anime that comes close to Seinfeld, seasons 2-10 of Simpsons, Happy Endings, or Veep.

lol no

Fumoffu is the closest but I live in a world where Robot Chicken, American Dad, Archer, and Futurama exist.

Can't say so, no. Although I do really like Gintama, but that's a very different beast.

There are certain shows I'd rank highly, but I dunno if I'd put them on top.

I haven't watched much anime comedy, but watching Archer right now, I'd be pretty damn skeptical that there's an anime comedy as good as that show. Let alone something like Seinfeld.

There isn't any comedy anime on par with Seinfeld or old Simpsons. Also: Metalocalypse >>> Detroit Metal City any day of the week.

Madoka 4
Thoughts during episode

- The title of this episode is "Miracles and magic are real". Can you put a bigger "Someone makes a wish" sign in the title?
- Oh your being too hard on yourself Blue Hair-chan. (I promise I will remember her name eventually)
- Slowly coming to the realization that me wanting to skip the OP = I probably don't like this OP.
- Man food in this show always looks good.
- Yes Madoka. I saw the last episode. I get it, your dark.
- Blue Hair-chan is just acting like nothing is wrong. Not cool. (Sayaka! That's her name!)
- Lol. Show trying to act like it's over.
- Foreshadowing...
- The faces! Why????
- Whoa kid! Back up there. Don't get mad at Sayaka! She is an angel!!
- I don't like this cat thing. It takes advantage of situations.
- Crazy cult. Awesome.
- Okay maybe not so awesome.
- HAHAHAHA. I called it! I knew that would end up being her wish.
- I can't say the fight was awesome because you didn't see her most of the time.
- New magic girl enters. She doesn't seem too nice. Also I knew
that cat thing was up to no good
.

I mostly just wanted more H. Jon Benjamin but at least there's Bob's Burgers and Archer.

Bob's Burgers and Archer are amazing. I've been holding off on Archer till the season is over/reaches its break since I like to marathon seasons, but the first two episodes of Archer Vice were great.

As to Metalocalypse, I gotta give credit where it's due to DMC. DMC ended early when it was still going strong. Metalocalypse had a strong 2-3 maybe 4 seasons, but it has just gone to shit. I appreciate shows that end early and strong vs being run to shit. Aka Flight of Conchords ended early. Simpsons did not.

Also I'm surprised with myself over how much I enjoy American Dad. As somebody who hates Family Guy (at least new stuff) and I try to ignore that the Cleveland Show exists, AD has some really amazing episodes that are just pure comedic genius. The indie movie episode had me in tears.

Usually? Western ones, but there will always be Golden Boy.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld and Futurama will probably always be higher then Cromartie High School and Nichibros but that doesn't make me love them any less

On the other hand, I wouldn't have said no to one more season. ;_;

Oh same. But better this than a shitty season I suppose. Plus they wanted to pursue other careers. Jemaine is now in a decent amount of movies as a supporting actor. Bret is now an academy award winning composer. And they did that comedy tour not too long ago as well, alongside Dave Chappelle and others. Life must be sweet.

We'll always have those New Zealand posters though.

The Nightman Cometh for you all.

Moar like The Nightmagi Cometh (Huge Madoka tv spoilers)

also kind of makes more sense with the movie now

No. I don't think anything would even make a top ten. Anime comedy I find rarely reaches beyond mildly amusing. I think for me the language barrier is part of it. Watching a comedy via subs puts some distance between me and the laughs.

Black Bullet Episode 1
tumblr_n3qgt5lmQL1toqhwfo2_r1_500.gif

Part of the premise reminded me of Mokushiroku Arisu in the area of this being another series with a lift threatening disease that affects only girls, but instead of making them spawn magical labyrinths, it instead gives them powered abilities or monster altering powers. Premise with the Varanium bullets to be the weakness for the Gaestrea is compelling on the action front. If we can get more scenes with Rentaro blasting them and high speed action then it should be an enjoyable show.

Good start, and the two twin towers are huge. Just wished they addressed if the girls on the border actually stand there all day to protect the city or not.

Honestly the upcoming Black Bullet episodes will make or break the series. I hear good things though:

-it apparently does attempt to go grim dark so apparently there won't be any major comedy hijinks. Maybe no bathhouse/beach episode (fingers crosses). I'm fine with grimdark/more serious I've had enough of harem hijinks for now.

- Also (apparently manga/LN spoilers can't confirm)
they pull an Attack on Titan. Episode 5 style

"Death City" and the world of Soul Eater are terrible.

With Google behind it, it might be possible for WebM to eventually dethrone tumblr and GIFs in general. But I'd like my laptop to be able to live through a page full of webm's autoplaying. So something needs to be done about that.
