Sasameki Koto is just sort of weird and unfulfilling. You can still be a comedy and allude to the challenges of living a culturally taboo lifestyle, but like virtually all of the few yuri shows out there, the total lack of social consequence or exploration of the characters' sexual psychology makes it too weightless. It's still way better than Sakura Trick, but to Sakura Trick's credit it does use its total lack of realism as an excuse to throw a ton of red meat to its audience.

I guess Aoi Hana is the best yuri anime by default, basically.

The social consequences of being a lesbian in Japan are in the manga and actually are REALLY damn important to the story. It is one reason I hate the aniem series with a fired passion.

the only yuri manga I remember even kind of dealing with it (that wasn't a more serious 'this is life as a minority' josei sort of level manga) was prism, and then that kind of got derailed.

tho sasameki koto manga did have a lot of aaaaaaanggggggggggst about it. i've forgotten at least half of it though

Really expected to dislike this one but it was nice. Hit the right sort of moments, i thought, and seems to be setting up for a nice end even if it did feel somewhat forced to arrive where we're at now. Liked the whole naval/dogfight aspect of the action too even if that didn't work all that well. their heart was in the right place.

satsuki, mako, and the four devas remain the show's highpoints. hoping the next episode provides the same catharsis as the last ep of Death Note did for me though.

the perspective switch was great though, since i didn't see it coming. and the strength of her feelings was damn crazy. sort of like heel realisation.

but then it got bogged for another bajillion chapters.

Is the dark elf a guy or a girl? I swear he's a guy but this episode has me wondering. Meanwhile the rape/interrogation (there is always rape in yuri anime, I swear), ends when Ms. Ultimate Weapon beats the crap out of the guy. Course she waits until he's ripped off her bra/bindings so she can do it with one arm while covering her nipples so that the empty room full of nobody but her and the dude she is beating the shit out of one armedly can not see her nips.

Because you know, in a one on one life or death fight against an enemy who is wielding a weapon when you're unarmed, the wisest thing to do is cover your chest with one arm and reduce your combat capability after having waited for the most fan-serviceable moment possible to attack.

Everybody's looking for a guy with braided hair. My ENORMOUS JUGS obviously make me out not to be a guy at all. If I could just somehow magically change my hair from being braided to unbraided, I could evade detection! I mean, faces are so shittly drawn in this world that there's a very good reason they're trying to find their suspect based on hair instead of facial features!

Well, that was a pretty soul-crushing little story. The twist was cruel to say the least. And I think this is also the first episode that hasn't had some form of happy resolution.
When the man miraculously survived slicing himself open like that, I thought we could actually be in for some measure of positive resolution against all the odds, but...no, he just went on to live a miserable life and eventually kill himself anyway. So that's cheerful.
