Aliens is Cameron's best script.
The Abyss has Cameron's strongest characters.
Titanic features Cameron's strongest directing.
T2 has Cameron's best action.
True Lies sees Cameron's best Paxton.
Avatar is Cameron at his most ambitious.
T1 is Cameron's most concentrated, laser-focused film that has the best atmosphere of any of them.

Lol great post but Private Hudson is Paxton at his purest.

Cameron's the man for getting good performances out of shit actors. Tom Arnold is the proof.

And you guys are cray. I love Hudson, but Paxton as Simon sleezeball is unbeatable.

Worthington is shit in most films. But he was fine in Avatar. He also outperformed Bale in Salvation, so go figure.

No he didn't. This myth you keep pushing will never make it true.

He's shit in Avatar. He's shit in Terminator. He's shit in Titans. He's shit in Black Ops. He's shit in Black Ops 2. He's shit in Black Ops 3, and he ain't even in it!

He is better than bale in salvation. That's a handicap tho because that dude was clearly depressed that he signed onto a film with McG

Sam Worthingon's biggest acting choice in Salvation is switching between his native Australian accent and the fake American one at random intervals. My dude has ZERO screen presence. ZERO charisma. Dude is a vacuum on screem.

You know I love Bale, DM.

My post wasn't even meant to make it seem like Worthington was good in Salvation. Just that Bale was awful in that film to the point where he got shown up by old mate Sammy.

Well, now we're 3rd weekend out:

Is it fair to say we have a pretty good conception of the general word of mouth on this movie?

The Spoiler Thread was never the greatest barometer, and I don't know WHAT the fuck it is now, but it does seem that the reception to the film is much more positive than not.

It's the 2009 Star Trek of Star Wars movies!

And the Spoiler Thread is what you see when you open the Arc of the Covenant

How is he better? Everyone in that movie looked bored as fuck. I'm not saying Bale was any good, but Worthington did absolutely nothing in that shit too. Nobody did anything!

Probably the best performance was from CGI Arnold looking better than the Terminator Genesys CGI Arnold.

Man that CGI was impressive.

Seemed like his character was given more to do, all bale did was cough out his lines in a really gruff voice

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe im right. I don't wanna ever watch that again so ill take anybody's word for it

I don't think you can become the biggest film of all time domestically in less than three weeks without good WOM.

True, but I don't wanna discount how fast that happened, which still points to the strength of marketing more than word of mouth. Usually the first couple weeks aren't really any reflection on the film's quality as much as they are the buzz created in the run-up. Buzz that loud can drown out so-so word of mouth pretty cleanly for a decent period of time.

To be honest, the Internet will never be a great barometer for word of mouth in a movie like star wars. Fans of decades old series are hyper-critical. Word of mouth among average movie goers seems to be through the roof though.

Marketing probably helped Star Wars quite a bit. It was everywhere, attached to everything that had nothing to do with the movie itself.

Relax, I wasn't referring to piracy, I was referring to home sales. But frak piracy anyway.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
List of areas where TFA is stronger than Avatar...

John Boyega > Sam Worthington.

It's an interesting comparison, though. They mostly have the same strengths and weaknesses to slightly different degrees.

i like to think that there was an answer missing and the second question is rhetorical.

'hey isn't that sam worthington?'
oh yeah, he's the greatest actor of our time!
'the greatest actor of our time?'

Does it freak you guys out that if you give Worthington an authentic American accent that he can't currently pull off that he would become indistinguishable from Pratt?

Dudes are secret twins.

Well, it says "of our time". Time is relative.

Literally no one in human history would actually utter that sentence.

It's what Sam says to himself in the mirror each morning. Right before looking at his poster of Sabotage, breaking into sobs, and calling James Cameron to see if this will be the year that Avatar 2 finally begins shooting.

It took Avatar 45 days to do 2 billion. Whats TFA at like 17 days?

I think TFA will be fine.
