Beyond the fact that it's still seemingly written as a Captain America story first and foremost, there's a contractual reason why they need Cap in the title instead of calling it Marvel Civil War or Avengers Civil War.
I wonder if they could use "Captain America v. Iron Man: Civil War."

Next year will be interesting for superhero movies.

Deadpool, Bat vs. Supes, Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, Gambit and Doctor Strange.

Some of these are going to disappoint. I still can't believe they're making a fucking Gambit movie.

Amazing for Universal, and the most incredible turnaround in Hollywood history. FF7 sucked even worse than Ultron though.
Opposite for me. Ultron was a mediocre action movie only saved by Whedon dialogue but even that got tiring after a while (also felt really long). At least Furious 7 was way more memorable in the action department from the Azerbaijan chase, Dubai skyscrapers, warehouse Kurt Russell badassery, and LA drone chase. I can't remember much good action momens from Ultron other than "go to sleep".

No Avengers number yet?

Disney thinking twice about putting out a bullshit $200 million and have people print it as news. I expect a big readjustment tomorrow to $195 million or less...

Maybe if the fight affected the movie so much, the second weekend drop will be lower. We'll see.

Edit: Beaten

Wonder if Furious 7 can beat the first Avengers $1.519 billion.

Estimates for full weekend are 189-191 million.

Something fucked is going on at Forbes because that's not what the headline of the actual article is and that's not at all how it actually reads.

The Force Awakens will easily top $187m.

December openings are generally much smaller than summer openings. The record December opening is $84 million from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (which it should of course obliterate). It will have serious legs though with no competition for weeks ahead after it's release. It won't be posting Age of Ultron numbers in it's opening weekend but it'll be the biggest December opening regardless.

Shameful? Hilarious. It is a disappointment though. Makes disneys statement on Friday make them look naive though.

So anyone think this has a chance at doing anywhere near 500 mil anymore? 450 is reasonable. 475 on the extreme high end.

I think they changed it...? Unless I'm going crazy, when I clicked it the first time it said exactly that.

I had a feeling that the record for all time opening was going to be hard to reach. Before this weekend I had doubts it could do it, but after Friday I was thinking it was in reach. But man, the legs got cut out of the film on Saturday by the fight. Still an impressive opening. And now to see how the second weekend fares.

EDIT: And Star Wars isn't beating this for opening weekend. It could double the previous December record and still not top this. December is all about legs and weekdays.

Force Awakens won't beat it's opening. It will beat it domestically now that Avengers 2 doesn't have much of a chance of getting past 450-470 mil.

LOL, why are people hung up on whether the writer is a staffer or contributor? Forbes published the article as their website's report on the numbers.

Also, the headline was changed to 'Box Office: 'Avengers 2' Snags 'Just' $187M In Near-Record Weekend'.

Probably a reflex to the amount of garbage Forbes contributors spew on Gaming side.

Why do you think Star Wars 7 won't top more than 180M in its opening weekend ?

I know the record is Hobbit with 84M but that's Star Wars, the hype is real and in USA, the franchise is so strong !

American are too busy in December ? ^^
