Well, it took the whole damn summer, but we finally got our first bonafide flop.

Outside of Snyder taking elements from his Batman stories, I suspect that this will be the last we see of Frank Miller in Hollywood.

Lucy making banks worldwide too. Will very likely be Besson's most successful movie as a director. (Doubt it'll beat Taken 2 so it won't be the highest grossing movie he's been involved in though).

Guardians is now pretty much guaranteed to reach 285m, might have a shot at passing the 300m line but we'll see.

The Labor Day weekend next week will help it out. I think it had a shot of $300m without it, but next week will be a really small drop thanks to the holiday (and this week's hold was great). I'd say it's a lock.

Why are you asking that? It's obvious he's referring to the writers and/or the actor.

I don't think it is at all. I think it's obvious he thinks DISNEY (all caps as befitting their omnipresence) asked someone to insert that reference into the movie specifically as a means to throw a quick dig at another studio's intellectual property.

Which is weird as hell to think anyone involved with the film gave that much of a shit. :)

I think the only underrated film in the series Transformers Age of Exinction. miles better than all the other ones.

I haven't seen the fourth one yet. Of the first three, though, I really liked the first and the third. The second is pretty terrible.

yeah the second one was pretty bad. the fourth one isn't actually that bad though. it is the only Transformers movie i like. much better than the score rotten tomatoes gave it. *then again, i prefer Mark Walhberg over Shia anyday of the week*

I thought this was funnier with the graphic. It was ruined when it wasn't there.

I never understand why people think it's funnier. It's cute that their scanner censors his middle finger, but his comment doesn't make sense. Why does he apologize for not knowing how their censoring technology works?

He's still referencing his finger in either form of the joke.

More like A Dime to Kill For. .

This week proved yet again that people will go and see just about any stupid comedy and if the budget is low enough it will make money, and you don't put out a sequel years after every single ounce of hype has left the building.

it seems like that the world seems to care much more about Sly and friends than we do in the USA.

It's weird. I really want to watch Expendables 3, but I just don't feel like going to the theater to watch it. I'd rather buy it for ~$18 or so on BD when it releases.

Wow. LEGO Movie did kind of poorly internationally compared to most animated films nowadays.

yeah but it was poor reasoning

damn maleficent is making bank world wide...Disney on the whole...

Maleficent, Cap TWS, and GoTG alone...wow. Next up Star Wars and Avengers....omg its going to be insane.
Then with all that money, they can buy Time Warner and own DC comics. Then the Internet can melt.

Well, I've seen people post that that's the reason it's funnier, that he's talking about their scanner.

LOL

He's turning an invisible crank that raises his middle finger. Do people really not know this gesture? It's old as shit.

most likely, but i wouldn't imagine it being at this scale. people aren't willing to dish out extra cash for the 3d showings
That's not how it works. If it's a movie I want to watch, I'll see it in whatever is available at the time I want to go. Sometimes it's 2D, sometimes it's 3D, it really makes no difference to me. I've never once not seen a movie because of the format it's in.

THE 20 BIGGEST OVERSEAS MARKETS

1. China $3.6B
2. Japan $2.4B
3. United Kingdom $1.7B
4. France $1.6B
5. India $1.5B
6. South Korea $1.4B
7. Russia $1.4B
8. Germany $1.3B
9. Australia $1.1B
10. Mexico $0.9B
11. Brazil $0.9B
12. Italy $0.8B
13. Spain $0.7B
14. Argentina $0.4B
15. Netherlands $0.3B
16. Turkey $0.3B
17. Taiwan $0.3B
18. Sweden $0.2B
19. Switzerland $0.2B
20. Malaysia $0.2B

- This counts both foreign grosses of Hollywood movies AND local films (as should be evidenced by India's standings since Hollywood films make shit all there)

- Germany and Australia are going to fall out of the Top 10 in a year or two, as both Mexico and Brazil are seeing big annual growth.

- China's film market has been growing by 20-30% each year. If that rate keeps up, it might challenge the domestic box office as the largest market within a decade(Currently $10.5-11B including grosses from Canada).

China is growing so fast, but don't movie studios have a ton of issues getting the money from them?

Yes there's a lot of politics involved. Also while the Chinese market is huge and growing, the problem is that movies like the Transformers only make 25% on the dollar in China versus 50% of domestic. Action figure blockbusters will need to have co-productions in China to truly rival domestic earnings (40%), and merchandising is another strategic factor as well. And I doubt China will increase the %, if anything it will decrease since they have a lot of leverage in my opinion.

Maybe if Frank Miller didn't burn through all his goodwill and exposed himself as the sexist asshole he really is, things would be different for Sin City 2. And Eva Green needs to fire her agent.

So I caught guardians, was amazed to see a crowded theatre. Decent movie, 3 bites of popcorn out of 5.
An extra half for the music and references.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Wow...at this point, Disney is making more money than God (or at least James Cameron) lately. Frozen, Marvel, and another guaranteed billion for the new SW movie. WB was rolling when they had Harry Potter and Batman, but I'm trying to recall if anything's come close to what Disney has now.
