China has a population of over 1.3 billion people and not a single one of them bought a ticket for Star Wars this weekend. IMO that says it all right there. No matter how hard you try to spin it this movie is nothing short of a box office disaster.

Sitting here next to yet another group of people convinced if they'd gone go see the movie this weekend they'd never have gotten seats, lol.

Disney is going to wind up pioneering technology to rapidly get the word out to mainsteam audiences that tickets are available for the next one.

Lol

is this an official thing or fan made?

Totally a cut scene

I made it in a hurry last year when the TFA showed us what a trailer should really be like after the crappy JW one

I now want to see a series of Star Wars vs JW/JP art.

Wouldn't we add in China's first weekend as well? Seems like JW keeps it on a technicality.

Yeah China is missing but there are technicalities all the time with box office stuff. In the end Jurassic World holds the world wide opening. If Captain America Civil War opens in China the same time as in the US the record could fall.

Pros: My $230 million prediction for Star Wars' opening weekend was pretty spot on.

Cons: My $950 million prediction for Mockingjay part 2 is laughable. What a complete disaster.

I predicted a $266 million domestic opening weekend, which was obviously really high compared to JW's 208.8, but if the final tally is 240-45 I'll feel glad that my prediction wasn't too far off the mark! ;)

Pretty sure it's official. I mean just look at it. Screams official.

edit - holy shit at those 3rd and 4th weekend numbers for Avatar. I completely forgot about that. Pretty sure the only reason it dropped on 8th and later was because Titanic has those.

Oh shit.

Jk having "avatar legs" would mean it would gross 240 million again next weekend so its impossible of course. If he means reaching Avatar's domestic gross then its possible.

An Avatar multiplier would mean making 2.4 billion domestically, LOL.

I hope this finally kills the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. Everyone involved with those should be tried for crimes against humanity.

Force Awakens has had the most obnoxious marketing campaign since...I guess Minions, which was this year too.

It worked for both of em

That reminds me how crazy this year has been. So many bombs, so many upsets, and so many disappointments from the what are usually the biggest movies.

On another topic, I hope mockingjays decline in numbers signals a break in YA adaptions for a while. There needs to be some fresh life breathed into the genre instead of the souless adaptions we've been getting lately. What's even the next one besides those divergent movies?

The 5th Wave, which had its trailer attached to Star Wars both times I've been so far, is based on a YA novel. The Maze Runner series is still ongoing too.

I was just thinking about how many surprise movies there were this year, which got me to wonder why the hell Universal didn't get Straight Outta Compton out on BluRay before the holidays?

Not even John Waters and Pink Flamingos could save the Chipmunks film.

That joke was lost on me (just laughed because it seemed like such a mean burn and Alvin's expression when he said it) but when my roommate explained it to me I lost my mind. What kind of parent is Dave, letting Alvin watch a movie like that. O:

Based on the fact that my local theater looked like Friday of an Avengers opening on Sunday at 4pm I'm guessing their estimate is going to be low for Sunday.
