Wolfenstein: The Old Blood |OT| Out With The New Order, In With The Old Blood

Managed to beat the last boss in Uber using the tips provided here, thanks guys'n gals!

I must say that I can't think of a single reason for reviewers giving this game quite lower scores than TNO. The combat is the same, the length of the game is pretty good for a $20 title, and the story bits were all nicely integrated and fleshed out Blazko's character even more.
I guess it's a short section, but that first chapter is certainly something that can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Other than that, it really is pretty much more of the same.

I just wish we saw more of Blazkowicz. I guess this might come across as a personal preference, but pretty much all of the cutscenes take place in a first-person perspective, which kind of bummed me out and somewhat separated me from him as a character just a tad bit, if that makes any sense.

Just finished it and thought it was great, awesome setup to TNO and really felt like how a proper expansion pack should be.

Bethesda continue to knock it out of the park with their DLC offerings, Dishonered, Evil Within, Rage and Wolfenstein all have great DLC. They're one of the only publishers that understand that DLC can be like what old expansion packs used to be, new levels, story, weapons, enemies and a good length for a fraction of the price.

I can see why some prefer the second half more. I think that's down to there being a totally different setting and dynamic. The zombies make use of the pipe melee and shotguns more, and the fact that you can turn AI vs AI (Nazis vs Nazi zombies) is awesome. It's a different dynamic that I totally love. A great alternate strategy, and not just a scripted happenstance as is often the case with AI vs AI in other FPSs.

Chapters 1-3's locations are a bit too reminiscent of The New Order, and not in a twisted way like Alan Wake's DLCs were doing. Bridges, sewers, castles, prisons. They still have cool domestic places like the kitchen and library. The cable car segment was great.

Still, has loads of all the great stuff from The New Order. Complex level design in battles, memorable characters, poignant and emotional character moments, and absolutely hilarious.

This picture is so damn Wolfenstein.

Yeah, though I personally didn't have any issues with the first chapter.

I guess that they were trying to experiment a bit. Hopefully this won't be the last we see of Blazko's beautiful eyes.

The ending is hella bittersweet, considering how TNO ends ;_;

Got to see his face again :(

FROM THE SHADOWWWS!!!

Just finished it. Same thought.

Started my game on uber but near the end of chapter 4 I just gave up. I wasn't having fun any more and it felt like a chore to play the game. Bumped it down to normal and started from the beginning and just loved it. Only real headache was end of chapter 4.

I'd be in the dick
Anyone else feel momentarily disoriented when going back to the main game world from a nightmare stage? The detail just seems so wrong for a second.

Just started Chapter 5. Loved TNO, loving this. In some ways, the level design is even better here. We just don't see map layouts like this in FPSes anymore.

Still really hoping for a full TNO sequel that's current gen only.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
The last boss was a mistake, it's nothing but trash.

Overall I really really enjoyed chapters 2-5. Chapter 1 wasn't awful, but it was really boring. Chapters 6-8 just took a complete nosedive in quality, didn't like them much.

I absolutely don't understand why they were using those shitty 30 FPS grainy FMVs between levels. I'm pretty sure id Tech 5 isn't that bad that they couldn't load stuff in the background during a real time cutscene. Especially since in most of these cutscenes you still stay in the same location after.

If TNO was a 9.5, this is a 6.5.

Man I didn't think any of the challenges would be as hard as they are. I've completed 7 of the 10 with the gold medal on the second highest difficulty. The last one I thought I might not be able to beat it.

I made a walkthrough video of all the challenges done while achieving a Ubergold rank and people seem to be finding it helpful so I'll drop a link to it here.

Ubergold all challenge maps walkthrough

Which maps are giving you the most trouble?

What are you even supposed to do for the last boss? Waste of time. Every 5 minutes you get a hit reaction
Pretty simple, it's a sponge. Shoot in the face with everything you've got. Kampfpistole and shotgun especially. Don't kill too many of the Nazis so it can be busy while you're taking potshots at it. Crouch under cover, if it does the horizontal sweep you're fine. If it does the vertical, sprint out of there and go to a another cover spot. If you run around, it can't hit you so do that while trying to get back ammo and health.

There might be an easier solution than that, but it's what worked for me on Uber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=resn-hrfZb0

Silenced pistol for the standard enemies that aren't smooshed to a pulp, Kampfpistole for the boss. He's really easy on Über if you use the former and stand still behind a piece of cover.

Finished Über :D It was actually way easier than The New Order and didn't give me any hassle at all. I was dreading certain sections but breezed through most of it with ease.

Just the challenge maps left to do.

Machinegames and its love for annoying choke points. I know it adds that retro feel, but it's not good or fun design in this day and age.

I lowered the difficulty to hard, but am having a hard time with the medical procedure room. It's annoying and somewhat cheap.

I hate choke points in shooters

If that's the section I'm thinking of, all you need to do is grab the weapons from the storeroom and blast the Nazis away.
I just got to this section in the caves:

Can anyone tell me, is it really possible to stealth here? No matter what I do, there's so many guards around that someone seems to always notice me :/

not 100% sure where that is, but It's always possible to at least stealth kill the officers

I'm loving this DLC so far. I can't stop playing it.

I'm pretty happy they decided to come out with more content. The New Order was one of my favorite games from last year.

Thanks y'all!

Wasn't sure if there was a weak spot I was missing (instincts were telling me "bright green glowy mouth hole" but didn't seem to make a difference)

Didn't know about ducking to avoid though, that's convenient!

Yes it's doable stealthly, i did it that way.
I think i ran straight behind the first one and climbed over the wall.
There i killed silently the guy that was on patrol, turned left and avoided the big red heavy dude and eventually killed the Captain unnoticed.

Damn, that's way smarter than what I've been trying to do! Thanks! :D

Thanks

I run and grab the assault rifle from the storeroom, as well as the ammo for the big guys' shotgun. However, I mistakenly picked up the health packs and armor in there prior to the
electrocution scene
and they're now gone.

It's the big guys, who are bullet sponges, that usually get me.

The way I dealt with the scene was run and gun the standard troops and snipe the shotgun dudes. Trying to shoot them with anything else takes way too damn long.

I would snipe them, but I only have the assault rifle and haven't found any other guns.

Thanks, though.
Oh damn, well that complicates things. Are there any dudes with snipers shooting you? I seem to remember there being a few that you might be able to grab a gun from. Otherwise, I'm out of advice. Sorry!

I've just gotten
out of the chair, stabbed the asshat
and ran for cover.

There are guys across the room shooting out of windows, but I think they only have assault rifles. Then, there's a bunch of guys flanking from the left, by where a bar is.

There are also two big armored guys.

FUCK this
bath house
checkpoint.... "They're in trouble, gotta find a way to get to them." The grenade spam is so fucking goddamn obnoxious, it's intolerable. If I hear one more fucking "grenatten!!!" I'm gonna puke.

I had trouble there until I realised you can bypass almost all of the fighting. As soon as you drop down go right, then proceed along the walkway (killing any guys in your path), then turn left, go straight on until you see a staircase on your right hand side with a shotgun guy standing there, shotgun him and proceed up the stairs.

Loving the game, I know some people may like TNO's layout better but I think it does the job well. And if you're wondering about Chapter 6, it's Wolfenstein, of course there's going to be crazy stuff. It's basically a tribute to Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

I wonder how long it will be for a sequel. I would like to see gold play more of a role in upgrades and stuff.

Finished the Prologue. I think I like the first person cutscenes so far.

Time for infamous chapter 1 stealth.

I clearly play much slower than the average gamer. I just got to Chapter 4 and I have played 5 hours so far. I am a stickler for checking every nook and cranny though so that could be a big reason why.

I love this series. Absolutely love it. It is just a classic First Person Shooter but looks damn good and plays fantastic. I love it.

Looking forward to getting to the crazy stuff soon.

Finish time for me was like 6 hours and 40 minutes on I am Death Incarnate. The second half was shorter than the first.

I'm looking forward to seeing the credits. I wish I liked these two games more.

Wolfenstein 2009 was more fun.

Ewwww....
