Woman on trial for laughing during Sessions' confirmation hearing (Up: found guilty)

At this point I'm more scared of Trump's cabinet than of Trump himself. The latter has shown to be incompetent in governance, the former are malicious and know how to take advantage of the system from decades of being in it.

Can anybody defend this? I was ok with that judge holding that laughing Mother at that one case for contempt of court. But this is a whole different level. A trial? Sad times we live in. You kick her out. The end. Ban her from attending things like this in the future.

Where's the trial for the jackass congressman that shouted you lie at Obama. Oh wait Obama isn't a little baby snowflake like conservatives.

I think from now on when someone is singing the Star Spangled Banner when they get to the land of the free part, we should use air quotes for free.

Taking a page from Trump's behavior and just going out to sue everything.

This administration is truly every bad American stereotype rolled together.

Oh no, you ridiculed me for being a dickhead! Time to sue/bomb/shoot/deport you.

Fairooz laughed after Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., who was introducing Sessions, said the then-junior senator from Alabama's history of "treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented

I would have laughed at that quote too.

Good for her for not giving an inch to these swine.

That moment when you need a plea bargain for laughing.

Wow

Edit* After watching the video, the actual arrest of her was a MUCH bigger interference with proceedings. Time to arrest all the police that took her out of the court room.

I hope someone is covering her legal defense. Having to spend money to defend against this lunacy is a hidden damage.

Remember when that GOP Representative stood up during an Obama address to Congress and screamed "YOU LIE!"? Remember how Obama put him on trial? Oh wait, no he didn't. Because Obama is a decent human being and the GOP are laughably evil chucklefucks. Apparently that guy who screamed "You lie" also got millions in campaign contributions immediately following the incident. How many of those donors do you suppose support punishing this woman for laughing at Sessions? It's got to be a solid 80%, yeah? Hypocritical fucks.

The whole Trump administration is so utterly humourless. It's why Trump didn't attend the Correspondent's Dinner.

Guilty.

NYT: "Code Pink Protesters at Sessions Hearing Could Face Year in Prison"
A jury on Wednesday convicted three Code Pink protesters on charges that they disrupted the confirmation hearing of Jeff Sessions for attorney general — including a Virginia woman who said all she did was break out in laughter. Each could face up to 12 months in prison.

The Virginia woman, Desiree A. Fairooz, was found guilty of the two charges she faced: disorderly conduct and parading or demonstrating on Capitol grounds.

The jury also convicted two other activists in the group she was with, Tighe Barry and Lenny Bianchi, who were dressed as Ku Klux Klan members with white hoods and robes and stood up before the Jan. 10 hearing started.

They were acquitted on a count of disorderly conduct but were convicted on two separate charges of parading or demonstrating, Mr. Barry said.

Where are all those staunch "freedom of speech" folks from the Ann Coulter thread? Funny how they're silent all of a sudden…
I don't think I was in the Ann Coulter thread, but since I'm usually one of the more strident defenders of free speech, I'll pipe up and say prosecuting this woman for laughing is absolutely ridiculous.

America, you need to force these cunts out of power. Revolt if you must. Take the fight to them, and make sure their type are never able to show their faces in public ever again.

There was a trial not too long ago where the mother of a drunk driver who killed someone laughed during her kid's sentencing or something and the judge threw her in jail for a day because she gave her a written apology

Well, 43 million people who voted for Trump are racists or support racism and xenophobia. Garbage in garbage out.

It was early in the hearing when Senator Richard Shelby, Republican of Alabama, said that Mr. Sessions’s record of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented,” Ariel Gold, the campaign director of Code Pink, said on Wednesday. Ms. Fairooz said that, on hearing that, she let out a giggle.

I would have laughed at that too. Stuff like this makes it seem risky to even attend government events in case you end up getting arrested for some kind of absurd charge like this, which of course is exactly the intent of pursuing cases like these.

"'Why do men feel threatened by women?' I asked a male friend of mine. [...] 'I mean,' I said, 'men are bigger, most of the time, they can run faster, strangle better, and they have on the average a lot more money and power.' 'They're afraid women will laugh at them,' he said.' 'Undercut their world view.' Then I asked some women students in a quickie poetry seminar I was giving, 'Why do women feel threatened by men?" 'They're afraid of being killed,' they said."
????

This is despicable. I hope the libertarians and snowflake projectionists revolt over this ridiculous breach of the First Ammendment. There's gotta be a video of the laughing woman, right? C-Span maybe?

Edit: Found the footage. I'm making inferences, but it sounds like the woman was asked to leave because she laughed, and only started to "demonstrate" when she was being physically dragged out of the room.
