Woman on trial for laughing during Sessions' confirmation hearing (Up: found guilty)

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I ran this by a Trump fan. They would think it's fucked up but as usual they don't believe this actually happened.

Living in a fucking police state.

Congrats, Republicans, you have destroyed the country's basic free speech laws just to get a single W in this shithole of a "conservative" administration. In quotes because it's not even conservative.

I'm shocked a jury could reach this verdict. This is utterly despicable and indefensible. Sessions is a truly laughable piece of shit.

This too. How the fuck was a jury okay with this shit?!

The world is going straight down the shitter real fast...
Fuck you Trump and the Republicans.

American leaders really want to double down on this bullshit, huh. And 40% will agree no matter what.

Can't wait for you guys to crank the crazy down to 8 instead of 12. Hope people stay safe in the meantime.

How obnoxious or disruptive was this laugh? Anybody have video or audio?

I listened to the hearings and I don't even remember the laughing.
Also, I don't like you and this is a reminder of why.

As obnoxious as folks who have their head in the sand.

From the article
Ms. Gold, who was at the hearing, described the noise Ms. Fairooz made as a “reflexive gasp” that was no more loud than a cough. “I would barely call it a laugh,” she said.

To be fair, we all should be informed cause that's the first thing Trump/Republican apologists will latch to, and we can't shut it down if we don't know.
If you're being serious, then you should know that any facts and reason literally won't matter to Trump or Republican apologists. People refer to this era as post-fact for a reason.

Even if you have video evidence of something, anyone who feels uncomfortable about how it clashes with their world view can simply dismiss as fake news etc.

I like the idea somebody posted earlier. Protestor should laugh every time they see him. Hound him with laughter. Let him hear it in his dreams at night.

The video is on Snopes, which I hope isn't too "FAKE NEWS" for you.

Ah. That provides some context.

That snopes video showed this isn't her first rodeo at disruptive protesting and being arrested for it.

I'd imagine these repeat offenders don't get plea deals.

12 months potential jail time is harsh but I can at least see the motivation behind it even if I don't think the punishment fits the crime.

She wasn't convicted for laughing at the session, but forvactions done afterwards. Not saying it's okay, but the outrage alarm should go down one notch.

College students shouldn't be sheltered from dissenting opinion.
College is where a person goes to get more dissenting opinions since hearing other opinions causes learning.

She was given a plea deal and refused it.

It's right there in the OP, dude.

Okay no offense but I think you forgot or misread some details.

If one can get into legal trouble for laughing at anyone under the Trump administration you might as well just ship myself and millions of Americans off to the fucking electric chair.

Eh, it sounds like she would have been found guilty of parading anyway. They were taking her into custody after the laugh, which lead to her outburst that stopped the hearing. The outburst is what caused disorderly conduct to stick, but the police/security arresting her is the reason she outburst in the first place.

I'm kind of more pissed off at the jury here. Like how did not a single one of them stand up and say "nah, this is fucked".
I'm pretty sure that jury went in thinking that she was guilty because of sufficient evidence of a cackle. Fuck those morons with a false sense of justice.

Colbert will face a firing squad with all the ruffles loaded.

She was found guilty? Of fucking laughing at Sessions because she knows he's talking bullshit?

I never ever want to hear any Trump or GOP supporter talk about liberals being snowflakes again. They have nothing to stand on anymore, not like they did anyway.

Laugh at this motherfucker if you ever see him in public. Laugh hard too.

I can "see" the motivation behind a misogynist wanting to deprive women of equal treatment and rights - because they're fucking misogynists. What point are you trying to make here?

I misread that part. Thought her plea deal was rejected.

Why in the world would she reject their plea deal?

I don't know why she made the decision. I can speculate, though. As you pointed out earlier, she's an activist (which you imply is some kind of pejorative), so maybe her principles of fairness, justice and participatory democracy were prioritized over her own self-interest in this case. Maybe she recognized this arrest and prosecution as unjust actions by the State and acted accordingly.

Or maybe she didn't think the jury would be so fucking awful.

Imagine being such a pathetic man that you use your power and influence to silence a woman because you have such a fragile ego.

Quarter of a notch.

She laughs at Senator Shelby's unintended satire. Security asks her to leave. She refuses. Security starts forcefully dragging her out of the room. She protests.

If I was being dragged out of a room for no good reason I would be protesting too. And in Trumpistan, that gets me a conviction of protesting in a non-protest zone and disorderly conduct with a possibility of up to a year in jail.

Timedog

good credit (by proxy)
I thought liberals were supposed to be the ones that are easily offended

What a fucking snowflake

Which is a perfect metaphor since he's super white and super fragile

I'm sure the staunch defenders of free speech in the Republican Party and conservative media will jump to this woman's defense.

Where are all those staunch "freedom of speech" folks from the Ann Coulter thread? Funny how they're silent all of a sudden…

Sounds about right
