Wonder Woman |OT| The World is Ready for You, Gal Gad [SPOILERS]

The last half hour confused the shit out of me...

Ares can shoot lightning? I thought the guy was Zeus.

But then she said "Goodbye Brother"....

And the end scene when she's jumping onto a boat? What was that for????

1. Ares probably inherited some of Zeus' power. He's a god with limitless power.

2. Diana's father is Zeus.

3. She just jumps off in the distance to whatever there was trouble.

She was lied too, she wasn't made of clay, Ares told her the truth, she's the daughter of Zeus, Ares is the son of Zeus, they siblings, there was no god killer, the sword was nonsense, only a god can kill a god..

She was still made of clay though. Mythology 101. Zeus makes his kids in all sorts of weird ways. Athena comes from his forehead. Aphrodite is from a weird mixture of a severed penis and seafoam. She just didn't know that she was the god killer.

Lutendorf and Poison cackling like evil cartoon villains as they gassed those dudes was awesome. Might as well have had them slap on fake mustaches and twirled them. I loved it.

Seeing it again tomorrow.

It's funny to learn Danny Huston and Elena Anaya improvised the laugh and didn't think it'd be kept in. Patty Jenkins kept it in.

This is pretty much the most epic battle music in the history of comic book movies.

It's among my favorites for sure.

I was watching Civil War last night (fantastic movie) but Henry Jackman's score as I went on an epic tirade about last year in the thread was just really dull and it never stands out. These superhero movies need sequences like this where the score is rousing because you connect it to the hero's bravery and it's what helps it leave a lasting impression.

If this scene didn't have music this good, it would have been so much lesser. Still probably fine, and I'm not saying the composer saves it, but these things have to work in harmony. Likewise, without the context, I probably wouldn't be so smitten with it. Like I said, harmony. The direction of the scene, execution and score all worked in tandem to create the emotions.

I'm just sitting here wondering why the final fight couldn't have been anything like the glorious action sequences we had during the first third of the film.

It's a real bummer. If it weren't for that this would have probably been my favorite superhero movie, but I gotta be real about it: it tanked the movie for me a little. It simply wasn't good, and didn't receive proper build. David Thewlis' performance as Ares was stinkin' awful but I don't really blame him as the whole thing was just off. I wonder if it's like some studio mandated thing where there has to be some unnecessary videogame final boss in these things, because the quality dropped so hard it felt like another movie all of a sudden.

Fortunately there are still good moments in there, I loved the shots of Diana walking toward the camera with her hair looking like a bat out of hell, but Ares was completely uninteresting and not really as scary to me because of the casting/performance/etc. It makes me wonder if Patty herself maybe didn't want to go that route. Of course I can never know that for sure, but I didn't get the same feeling from it that I got from literally everything else in the film.

My main objection to this film is the insertion of the wildly out of place shitty theme hauled in from BvS. I might have audibly groaned when it started churning up in the score, which was otherwise great until that moment. To say it was jarring is a wild understatement.
I agree, I had zero problems with the in-movie score other than that.

The last fight scene turned into Dragon Ball Z which was a bit jarring.

The best parts of the movie was Diana interacting with people and her naivety when it came to dealing with them.

I would like to see a sequel, cant get enough of Gal

I think that theme is hype and it was hype overload for me the very few times it kicked in.

When it plays when she gets into that fight in the warehouse following the trench run (Star Wars thread?!) it truly felt like ass kicking time.

Also I found out from IMDB that Patty Jenkins was the actual director, not just editor / producer or whatever. That makes me quite happy, since I thought the directing and editing were very solid and coherent.

Yup the theme was fantastic. Smiled so much when it started playing every time.

Yeah I'm not sure why people have a problem with the theme. As soon as the drums kick in I get shivers cause you know it's fucking go time.

Jesus fuuuuuuck I want to watch this again right now.

Wow I was incredibly impressed by how much I enjoyed this film. I wanna say easily the best DCU film but that's honestly selling it way short. Some great comedy in this movie and all of the action was incredibly well choreographed.

I feel like her telling how men were unnecessary for sexual pleasure (thanks to the 12 volumes of Cleo's treatises on body and pleasure) basically implied that she has experience in that area. I highly doubt that given her inquisitive and curious nature she wouldn't have at least tested out this 'theory'. And given her capacity to love (in all manners) in the film, it would be weird if she was portrayed as this asexual being on themyscira. So I completely believe she's Bi/Pansexual in the DCEU.

What I really wanna know is if Menalippe and Antiope were a couple though.

I don't draw the same conclusion here. She could also be implying that she achieves the pleasure she talked about completely on her own.

When she was dancing with Steve, it seemed to me that she was nervous from the close proximity - like that was new to her as well. She seemed a little trepidacious. Chalk that up to inexperience completely, or interpret it as you will.

Why would it be weird that she would be portrayed as asexual? If you believe that to be weird, then how about an island of nothing but women? There are a lot of things in her backstory that require a suspension of disbelief - sexual preferences/practices would seem the easiest to believe either way (your interpretation or mine).

Just came back from watching it and it kinda reminded me of Fate/Zero.

Was the movie almost too dark for anyone else? I mean, literally too dark, like I could barely see what was going on in some of the night time scenes. I don't know if that was the movie or I just had a shitty projector.

That moment was god awful.

It felt pulled straight from Batman Forever.

Yeah. The rest of the movie was too good for that stuff, and the Ares stuff.

Like I know it's still a superhero movie, but man, sometimes things just don't have to be there. It was fantastical enough and throwing in terrible villains just... eh. The way he sniffed the stuff was incredibly lame.

I saw the movie with my friend and his 12 year old daughter, she didn't like Lutendorf, especially when he took that drug, she was hiding her face...

Been there before.

Nope - this film is well lit for everything. I've been in theatres where this was an issue.

You got a subpar presentation.

edit: I saw it both in 3D and standard, looked fine in both with regard to brightness. Although I usually find 3D presentations slightly subdued in colour and brightness.

I saw in it IMAX 3D it wasn't never too dark...

Not sure how the dialogue in the boat would go over with kids, and more so for adults sitting next to their kids worrying about what they're hearing.

Also the "are you a typical example of your sex" scene.

I dunno. I'm not a parent, so I'm not sure how parents feel about that.

Interesting that she would react that strongly to the guy though.

Saw the movie, a good movie, but not as great as some make it out to be.

If this was year 2 of DC movies (man of steel hypothetically coming out last year, and this year WW), I would think things are looking great for the future.

But only being invested in two characters, and rushing to a union of many characters, some that we even know nothing about, it's not exciting to look forward to.

We saw it in IMAX 3D there were some effects on screen when his face got white after breathing in the gas Doctor Poison gave him..don't know if that creep her out...

Apologies if this has been explained already, but what is the deal with the capsules Dr. Poison gave to Lutendorf?

I think they kind of squeezed those into the story. A bit of a weak point in my view. He didn't "need" them, so it became odd that they made a point of having the chemist make them for him.

But, they became handy when he fought Diana - otherwise the fight would have been over instantly. One kick to the chest, boom you're dead.

So that seemed to be the ultimate goal of having them there at all.

The blue stuff that Lutendorf snorts, are they like the pills from Injustice? I really think they are going to bring parts of injustice in to the DCEU, especially with the nightmare/Flash scene from BVS.

So why was Linda Carter credited, was she in the movie? Was she the woman in blue gown?

Someone asked that same question yesterday. So I made it a point to pay closer attention to the woman in blue this time around.

No that was not her. No resemblance at all.

They may be crediting her as an homage, i.e. thanks for the moral support, the passing of the torch, etc. Nothing more I don't think. No one I have talked to has spotted her in the film.

I just googled it, and there is a story from fox that sort of confirms that Jenkins asked Carter for her "blessing" of sorts.

I imagine the explanation for them just showing up is Ares and his silent hand influencing Dr. Poison. Capsules that turn regular men into supersoliders would be very handy to prolong and intensify conflict.

I thought it was explained away when Ares said he was suggesting all the formulas to Dr. Poison. It was likely something he gave her in hopes she would use it to prolong the war.

That's a very good point actually. Poison does actually say that "something just occurred to me last night", suggesting that the idea for them was sudden. I don't remember if that was in reference to the pills or her new version of the gas, but your point makes sense.

Yup. That makes sense too.

Only problem with that explanation is that it took her right up until the very last moment to come up with the gas that satisfied them. If Ares was truly hell bent on having Doc Poison have the killer gas, why prolong the delay until her success? Minor detail, really.

I guess people don't remember they only started laughing when Poison realized throwing the gas mask in was to give them false hope. I actually found it really fucked up and sadistic and not corny at all.

This film has my eternal gratitude by not following Steve's "It's called No Man's Land because no man can cross it" with Wonder Woman saying something like "They said nothing about a woman".

I was on the edge of my seat waiting for that corny shit and thankfully it never came.

The entire film was about Diana learning about and coming to grips with her true power and the realities of man's world. I think the final scene was a very condensed metaphorical coming of age. She goes through a maelstrom of emotion, and has to overcome her grief and rage with love and sheer will. It's the very core element of her character. She is a force for love and self sacrifice, and the temptations of falling into rage and cynicism will be there for her just like they are for mankind. Steve's sacrifice helped her see that mankind was worth redeeming, and was the final push she needed to realize the extent of the power she possessed.

lol

I will admit that I was sort of hoping Patty Jenkins was about to tip her hat at another PJ.
