Work From Home Office Upgrades

JORMBO

Darkness no more
I have an extra bedroom set up with an office chair, desk etc. 99% of the time I just set up my laptop in my living room on the coffee table and sit on the couch. My company recently told me I probably wouldn't be going back until the end of the year and it would only be 1 day a week required in the office. I might look into upgrading the chair and maybe buying a small TV for the background. Sitting on the couch in a tiny space sandwiched between two napping dogs probably isn't good long term.

it's been mentioned a couple of times in the thread and it really does make a difference: a good office chair is a must. where i live a good one goes for about 200 usd, but there are so many choices out there, 200 might be on the low side of expense. would love to have one that does magic fingers and heat, but it would be taken away by one of the 'others' here the minute i stepped away from it.

I’m still looking for a desk, I’m actually thinking of hiring someone to build something. I want a double desk for my work PC and home/gaming PC. I haven't been able to find anything that looks good. Any suggestions? I'm willing to spend money on good furniture.

I would also like to upgrade my PC speakers (or rather none at the moment) to something really discrete looking, maybe even hidden somehow.

I would recommend the Fully Jarvis. Got mine set-up completely today. I love it. Gorgeous desk, the lifting capabilities are great, and absolutely loving the powered grommets.

LOTS. My office shut down permanently so pretty much had to invest in a new desk instead of using old broken down desks and chairs. Got a few hundred from work as a one time expense so used it to buy some of this shit but it only covered the desk and the chair.

- Wireless KBM is by far my favorite because it uses only one usb for both keyboard and mouse.
- I really like the desk. Makes me feel rich.
- Standing desk was nice at first but I stopped using it after two months. Also, Just doesnt feel right putting that awful looking metallic monstrosity on my nice looking desk.
- Boss chair sucked. I realized that I liked the cheap office chairs that lean back much more. So went and got that one. 1/3rd the cost, and yet i can lean back and feel comfortable all day.
- Got three monitors from work, but decided to use this 165 hz cruved monitor that i bought for gaming as my main monitor recently. Its 32 inches and far bigger than the tiny 21 inch monitors i used to have.
- Sony's noise cancelling speakers were shit. Dont cancel any noise. What a waste of $25.
- Both the wifi extender and the power ethernet were useless in my room that with wifi deadzones. AC ethernet gave me around 50 MB but the ping was still too high. Wifi extender only made it worse.
- Went and bought a brand new $200 Netgear wifi modem/router and this thing is amazing. I get max speeds in the deadzones around my house, especially in my office. Great ping. And I dont have to pay $10 a month for the ISP modem.

Overall, I spent around $1,500 on these items. Only got $500 from the company. Still dont like working from home. I liked going to the office everyday. I just didnt realize it.

I've had those desktop standing converters and they're worthless. They just shrink the real estate of your work area.

same here, didn't think i'd miss the ebb and flow of the office, but i do.
Me too but we’re going back this summary part time. Which maybe for the best actually if I can spend 50% of the time in the office when people have face to face meetings. Hopefully it also means I can come in and go outside of the typical rush hours.

Agreed. I had one in the office for a while and every time I typed the thing would slide just a little down. It has to be constantly adjusted.

Desk has been all set-up since Wed. Got the powered grommets on Thursday. I've been alternating between sitting & standing, just as originally desired.

The desk is gorgeous with much more space than I am used to (primary reason for upgrading). The raising and lowering works as intended with zero issues. I do wish I had upgraded to the version with the memory module. The desk & frame are beefy. The entirety of the 4 packages shipped were weighed in at 144 lbs according to Fedex. The final thing is probably closer to 120lbs (guessing here). It's sturdy as hell. Whenever Mrs Voyage upgrades her desk (she's no longer WFH) I'll most likely talk her into a Fully Jarvis as well.

My set-up isn't complete just yet.
- I did order a standing mat from Fully (hardwood floors make standing less enjoyable), should be here Monday
- On order is also a laptop stand for my MacBook
- To help minimize clutter on & underneath the desk are 2 wire trays coming next week
- I've also got a Loki Mini+ and some shorter cables on order to minimize the Schiit stack footprint (cables are too long currently to let the 2 silver devices stack properly, as intended)
- I need to replace the felt desk mat I am currently using (still trying to decide if I want to go with leather or another material)
- I also will pick up some Isoacoustics stands for the speakers

Here's a current pic of my set-up:

My fantasy is that my girlfriend was actually a young high school girl.
Beautiful KEF speakers.

I got a desk from Ikea off of gumtree for cheap, stole a chair from my workplace, got a 27" monitor that I am now replacing with a 32" monitor. Got a monitor arm that gave me more room on my tiny desk. I don't want 2 monitors as I live in a studio, so currently I have a bedroom, office and living room all crammed into one room.

I would love dedicated speakers for the computer, but I already have 2 stereos crammed into my tiny studio.

I received the last of my upgrades this afternoon. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. I should probably do some more cable management, but it's working okay so far.

I still need to find a good replacement for the desk mat, as well as speaker stands.
