World of Warcraft |OT9| People still play this? Isn't it from 2004

Wonder if those two could be related! Hah, though I guess only a small portion of people were using rotation bots.

Anyway, archaeology has been a pretty hard miss so far this expansion, but the current quest definitely takes the cake. You go to an area in Val'Sharah, click a thing on the ground that turns into smaller things that you click to loot 3-5 fragments. Sometimes they spawn adds that die in 1 hit that drop.. 3-5 fragments. To finish? You need 500 total frags... What is the point of this? I can't believe they wasted so much time making 12 (13?) different random archaeology quests to go up every 2 weeks and after 6 of them so far not a single one has been better than just base archaeology. Effort went into making this system that is in every way worse than what we had before. Really a huge disappointment.

It's still a vast improvement over the "farm endlessly and hope for a rare proc" of previous expansions. I can go out and do the quest over the two weeks and then ignore archaeology entirely for a while, without feeling like I need to hit dig sites when I see them, and still know eventually I'll get all the rares. And some of the lore in the quests is a little interesting.

Hah, you just described the exact reason why I think the current iteration is bad. With the old system I could just do it whenever I felt like it, when I had spare time. Dig sites never changed until I did them, and I could go at my own pace. New system, I absolutely HAVE to do archaeology at least once every 2 weeks or I miss whatever that rare is for 6 months until it cycles around again. Not to mention that taking rares out of the main archaeology system totally ruins it, actually completing solves feels completely pointless and just something you are doing as a byproduct of getting the rares, where before you would actually get excited when a rare finally popped. And some of the quests are quite arduous, not even talking about the pre-fix Highborne one, but the second one for the Starlight Beacon took me almost as long to complete as getting all of the WoD rares combined. Or there are quests this week that are total garbage, click small objects for 10 minutes and do nothing else? Really? Lore is definitely good, but it doesn't make up for these shortcomings to me. I never felt pressured to do archy before, I just left it alone until I needed more content to do. This system is forcing it to be yet another "do this every X time or miss out forever" checklist item in WoW, it was nice having one thing that wasn't like that.

But the main problem is that this expansion all the rares are awful. The hallmark of archy has always been fun BoA toys and heirlooms. This expansion half the crap you get is god damn soulbound. Why isn't the Starlight Beacon a toy? What the hell is my 878 ilvl main gonna do with the Jar of Imps? Both would be quite fun as BoA items like archy has always been in the past, but now I have to wait 5 months if I want my alt to have a Starlight Beacon for no reason at all. To me, archaeology is a perfect example of something that isn't for everyone, but blizzard saw that as a reason it needed to be changed, and in changing it ruined it for those that liked it before and got almost no new people interested in it, just making it worse overall.

Any anecdotal evidence of the best place to "farm" for Legendaries? I'm wondering if this is just a straight world drop % or does it have an increased chance from Emissary caches, Dungeons or Raids. Just trying to see where I should be spending some extra time.

I've gotten one on my alt and maybe I used up my first timer luck, but is there any information out there about how this works? It's really frustrating that my alt has a 910 when I'm scrambling for every ilevel point on my main.

Evidence is pretty limited, but things that seem to have a "good" drop chance include emissary caches, Mythic+ end boxes, weekly order hall box, world bosses, and raid bosses in general. Everything else has the possibility to drop it, but in my guild between all of us we've run hundreds of heroics and mythic+0s and never seen a legendary drop there, while a few people have gotten a legendary from emissary caches, which they've opened many less of. But we still have no idea how the supposed "bad luck protection" works so it is possible doing heroics and failing to get a legendary increases your chance to get one from an emissary cache..

Speaking of caches, finally got my last rep to exalted (Dreamweaver oddly enough, wasn't Wardens last), between that and having 2 legendaries I'm reasonably happy with I think I can finally stop doing the caches daily. The freedom feels nice.

As of 7.1 the 'pity timer' seems to kick in on the Tuesday reset. It rains orange in my guild on Tuesday, mostly in the raid but also from emissaries/world bosses. It's not a massive guild but we almost fill a 30-man raid regularly, so there's a decent sample size here.

The people who log in consistently to both raid and run mythic+ religiously in my guild all have 2-3 except for one guy who only has one. The 'only log in for raids' types have been finding their first or second in the past couple weeks.

In my 5-man static group we've found quite a few in mythic+ and Karazhan for both mains and alts.

My personal drops, since you asked for anecdotal evidence:

1 and 2: Weird double drop out of a mythic+ double chest - this was before 7.1 when they were still rare.
3: World boss last week right after reset
4. Heroic Nythendra last night, first thing I did after reset

Honestly the only thing I can say is that as long as you're actively playing the game it will eventually give you one. Perhaps it would be best to run LFR even if you don't need it for an increased chance, but I don't do LFR myself. I do complete my emissary quests and haven't ever missed one, and I run mythic+ a LOT.

I'm pretty sure they've said at some point that you have a higher chance of getting them with higher lvl keystones, but as someone who've done a ton of 5-8 and some 9-10 as well, that seems like complete bullshit.

I've seen people get them on normal EN and a lot of people get it from emissary chests, and I personally got my second one from a boss doing my daily heroic dungeon. It is pure luck, tbh.
I have someone in my guild who got his first legendary and then got his second one about 30 minutes later.

Thanks for the info. I was doing the Falcosaur pet quests and needed a Ursoc kill, so I logged over to my Tank for a faster LFR queue and of course the Legendary dropped for him.

I haven't done many mythic+ on my main because groups are so hard to get for DPS, but maybe I'll burn through all the LFRs each week on top of the heroics and caches.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you about any of that. I guess the best solution would be to have the quests as a guaranteed rare but still have the chance for them to proc as well. But we know Blizz hates archaeology entirely so I guess we're lucky they did anything at all. At least they added the little light effect that makes doing dig sites much better.

Thought Guarm was kind of easy. Odyn fucking sucks. Too much shit going on at once. Helya's a fun fight.

Guarm definitely got nerfed from last week and is pretty easy now. His unavoidable trample damage before was really dumb, based on our logs it's about 35-40% less.

Odyn is fun and easy for us but Helya was a mess because of people trying to pad meters too hard.

I've seen at least one drop in LFR every week, so I would definitely do that.

I got mine from the world boss this week and have multiple friends who got one from world bosses, so definitely kill them every week.

Yea, I would've been perfectly happy if the had the quests plus procced rares. Bonus points if they just had a new quest unlock every 2 weeks, with the option to pick up all the ones that have come up since expansion launched on a new toon, so you don't miss out if you don't feel like doing archy for a month or so. Blizz tends to go too extreme with their changes, all or nothing. Introducing the new system without completely destroying the old seems like it would've been an easier way to test the waters, but what do I know...

They've definitely made a lot more design choices this expansion that are clearly to pad out content and include forced gating. It's always been there, but stuff like the archaeology quest reeks of "how do we make people feel like they can't ever let their subscription lapse." So for semi-casual players like me who don't mind having to do one quest every two weeks, it's great, but for like you describe where you'd rather just ignore it most of the time and then grind it all it at once, not so much.

12th anniversary gave me 200 timewarpred badges.

Are those useful in anyway?

Depends what you consider useful? Currently no timewalking is even active, so you couldn't spend them if you tried (unless they changed that). But once one is you can use it to buy toys, mounts, rep for old factions and 805 gear. But for a main char 815 or up that wants a pure power boost, not at all useful.

Don't have a stun? Regardless, he should absolutely melt if you've got a fully upgraded Withered army in berserk mode.

I've been clearing it with 400 mana every time as Enhancement, no problem. But when I tried to do it as Elemental, the double-berserker room killed me before I could clear it.. and Resto is hopeless.

Where's the vendor for that stuff? I'd love to buy old rep.

The vendor for each specific expansion is only up while that expansion's timewalking is active, so if you want WotLK rep, when that timewalking is up you can go to old Dala and buy stuff, same with Shatt for TBC timewalking. Timewarped badges are generic too so if you want you can earn them during one event and save for the next to spend them there.

And to correct myself from before, looks like the 12th anniversary vendor sells some stuff for timewarped badges, again mostly just random stuff for fun.

That one is being buffed pretty nicely in 7.1.5.

Still won't be too exciting for a DPS character, as is the case with pretty much any legendary that has no DPS benefit. But man, for tanks the buffed version is looking pretty nice. Calculated that it will be worth about 50k HPS on my Bear when the patch hits, with an estimated 1,500,000 shield every 30 seconds. Only downside of the changed version is I wont be able to save the shield for big pulls anymore, since there is no more 5 second window.

I hate fun. I want world events I can get something useful out of.

Seriously though I wonder how the Silithus thing is gonna play out. Did they say if the holiday will be different for each server based on their day of opening? It'd be amazing if my guild got some kind of recognition for being the ones to open it, but I'm not expecting them to go that deep. Our Scarab Lord hasn't played in years but his twin brother still does.

Anyone using Memento of Angerboda? Does it proc often?

Yes, it's a really strong trinket. The screaming noises drove me nuts after a while though. Also I dunno if they fixed it, but it was being triggered by party member deaths for a while. Was pretty hilarious on Xavius with our shadow priests.

I'm at the point with Withered Training that my Hunter does it better than my Paladin (both have all the upgrades) since pets are better puller to avoid the withered from training whole rooms.

I just ignore the 2 berserker room and I ignore the other boss that looks like that (the one before Dro's door). I don't clear the bottom floors either. That will consistently get me 480-520 points or so. If I want to guarantee 500 points I clear one more bottom floor. I go in with 8 and usually end with around 30 or so, my berserkers usually die along the way because they like to taunt. At this point I just want to clear it as fast as I can but still get the biggest chest so I have a chance at my artifact appearance and the toys. I fully believe the chest you get at a low score is different, it looks different graphically, even if wowhead doesn't recognize it as being different. But my guess is all that is "required" is getting 375 points, but there's not much else I can cut out and still have enough withered to clear with minimal stress.

Oh, so Odyn raid is open for LFR or just the first boss?
It's all open, did it all last night.

Just know you might wipe once or twice since no one reads the dungeon journal.

Also, does anyone know why all Legendary items got put up to a 910 level? Did they actually get buffed or is it just an adjustment?

Holy shit the 7.1.5. affliction legendary is RIDICULOUS. Reap Souls lasts 2.5 seconds longer for each soul consumed. That's essentially needed if you want to play Affliction...Reap Souls uptime is atrocious even with 12 stacks.

It seems like for weaker classes a lot of these new legendaries are needed...not sure how to feel about that.

Oh, so Odyn raid is open for LFR or just the first boss?

all three bosses

Noticed that retri paladins can't apply their greater blessing buffs while in combat.

What an utterly weird and arbitrary nerf.

It's a pain when you join a dungeon and want to put Might on all the DPS, but everyone's already just charged in and started fighting.

Has it not already been working that way? I know during alpha there was a lot of concern about whether Ret would have to constantly "hot swap" the buffs and so limiting them to OOC casts was Blizzard's solution,.

Not bad day for loot, got 870 ilvl Memento trinket from Maw and 885 boots from weekly chest. Only slot that desperately needs upgrading is one tank trinket (got 860 one that drops from Shade of Xavius).

Uff, that's one way to burn out of the game, but I wanted it done. Got my PvP skins. Though only really care about the Brewmaster one.

World boss dropped loot twice too. Not too bad of a day.

I want that exact one too! Sadly I'm only honorlvl 35 so I got a long way to go. I suppose I could grind some arena skirmishes since there is the event going on this week, would be a start at least.

so I didnt realize the paladin waist legendary I got earlier is going to be one of the best legendaries in 7.1.5. That feels kinda nice

Nice! I'm really hoping they don't nerf Marks as bad as it seems on the PTR right now because the legendary I have on my Hunter is Marks specific so it'd be kind of wasted if I end up playing something else.

My last run he went down with little casualties. This time it was just a different animal.

Yesterday was my first time even doing the Withered Army scenario to completion. Like an idiot though I should've grabbed better chests.

Lmao, I have that also. My pug set eeks out three extra item levels with items that are actually pretty bad for me.
