Angels and Airwaves, or more specifically Tom Delonge. Saw them briefly at a festival. Dude was drunk as hell, and his singing was all over the place.

When was this? I've seen that band four or so times and am pretty goddamn sure she never did that. These were fairly recent performances too.

2013. It was extremely fucking obvious, too. Looking at ticketmaster reviews, I see a couple of people have posted reviews complaining about it as well.

But, yeah. It was crazy obvious. She was thrashing around/dancing the whole time, with massive fans blowing on her, while the vocals were fucking flawless CD quality. It was absurd to think we were supposed to believe a mic would be able to handle everything it was going through without picking up any of the noise (like fans blowing on it). She would talk a bit between songs and it would sound completely different, like a person actually speaking into a mic should, and then they'd go back to a song and it'd sound like a CD again suddenly.

EDIT: Yeah, even watching 2015/16 videos on youtube, she is clearly not actually singing. This video is laughable, especially towards the end. She is fucking thrashing, he hair hitting her mic and everything, you never hear anything but flawless vocals. Towards the middle there is also a point where she drags her hand across her mouth, which through some wizardry doesn't fuck with the vocals at all.

Every band has a off night. I knew when I posted I'd so get this feedback because I've read that they are great live according to most.

I hear you but I cannot imagine how disappointing it would be to go to a MMJ show and have it be lackluster or just ok.

What year was this?

I was witnessed Linkin Park get booed off the stage before Metallica so they must have been pretty bad, I'm not a fan so wasn't paying attention to them.
You were at the show but you weren't paying attention to the loud band on stage?

Pretty badass damn

Sleigh Bells. All I could hear was bass and the occasional vocal come through with a few power chords. Not a boring show by any means, but damn if it didn't sound like absolute shit.

I saw Sleigh Bells at FYF a few years ago and they KILLED it. The show was amazing.

Worst was definitely MIA: she had a bunch of hype dudes on stage with her and she sounded horrible.

I saw Don Omar a couple years ago and his performance was pretty good. But I'll never got to another show because... tickets were expensive (75 each I think), he didn't have an opening act, and his set was about 45minutes. It was over at 9pm and everyone was really pissed off standing around in confusion.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I'm going to say there's a good to great chance what you saw was guitar techs working on guitars. There's literally no point in having "roadies" play backstage. Musicians that can play Manson songs are a dime a dozen.

I went from knowing nothing about guitar (and had never touched one) to being able to play the entirety of one of his songs in under 15 minutes, at which point I still knew nothing about playing guitar.

fucking Green Day.

out of tune, lazy, a lot of mistakes... you could just feel that they didn't care.

also, fucking Interpol... they decided to left after playing only 5-6 songs, and not even the best ones. In the previous city of the tour, they played 14-15.

I saw brand new on the kd/Manchester tour and I thought they sounded really good. had 2 drummers and did some cool protection effects.

the crowd was awful

A lot of hate on Blink 182 here. The real culprit is Tom Delonge. He's a fucking horrible horrible singer and completely lifeless on stage. I'm gonna Blink 182 next month here, I'm curious to see how Matt Skiba works as the new third man.

I'm racking my brain to think who the worst was... It probably is Tom Delonge with Blink 182. I've seen probably close to a hundred bands live in my lifetime. Most of it was in my teenage years when I'd go watch shitty hardcore bands at my local venue. Hardcore bands were either super amazing (rare) or INCREDIBLY shite

Weird. I've seen them four times between 2011 and 2015 and I never picked up on her doing anything like that. And she'd def take breaks to talk, so I think I'd notice the mic change.

Edit: I mean, they've never done "Blood" like they do on the album because they save it for last and Maria sounds/looks tired. Hell in the video above, it doesn't sound like it does on the album. Words are said differently or for not as long and such. I find it hard to believe that they'd record a live version of the song with slightly different vocals so she can lip sing over it. Easier to believe she's talented and the sound engineers know their shit.

Matisyahu - guy is awful, just sits there and yaps.

Best show - Dan Deacon. Front row & on psychedelics. Two feet away from his face. I had just got dumped and then saw him, it was life changing. He interacts with the crowd so well.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Also I've seen Armin Van Burren live many times and he always delivers, but this was small club stuff and pre-main stage clubs.

I also love love love Pretty lights live, especially at Red Rocks. You're in for a treat if you're a fan.

My uncle told me a story about the one time he saw "The Doors" - He said it was the worst show ever. Jim Morrison came out with a bottle of jack and crashed in the drums, which ended up cancelling the show.
Can confirm that Dan Deacon puts on the best shows ever. Every time it's just so much fun and positive energy

Hey, if you wanna believe in wizard sound engineers with magic mics that don't respond to being tossed around and fans blowing on them, I won't try to convince you otherwise.

Seen Dan Deacon about 9 times, every single time was an amazing show, even when he opened for Miley/Flaming Lips.

I have to also say Sleigh Bells. Don't know her name, but the vocalist cannot sing for shit. Her vocals on the album have to be altered because she sounds like complete shit live. Probably one of the most disappointing and worst bands I've ever seen live.

That is *exactly* what bands do when they want to get away with miming performances.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/5/5381706/red-hot-chili-peppers-admit-faking-super-bowl-performance

But realizing that the Super Bowl halftime show represented a "surreal-like, once in a life time crazy thing to do," the band decided to make a lone exception. "We decided that, with Anthony singing live, that we could still bring the spirit and freedom of what we do into the performance." They recorded a unique version of the song that would be played behind Kiedis' vocals, so while it wasn't technically live, no audience will ever hear that exact performance again.

When did you see him? I saw him at ACL a few years ago and dragged about 4-5 people with me that didnt know much of his stuff and they were all incredibly impressed. Some said the best show they saw that year. We were up fairly close but he really killed it I thought, totally chill right as the sun started to come down it was a great show.

I saw him at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Part of the issue was the stage acoustics not fitting his music but CLASSIXX opened for him and killlllled it. He didn't really play any of Causers of This and mostly stuff off the follow up to that (THAT was probably the most disappointing aspect).

Just wasn't fun.

Bob Dylan in 1990 (he was drunk as fuck), saw him again in the mid-90's and the set was incendiary (he played some Dead songs and was articulate)

Toro y Moi (so horribly balanced mix that I left early)

Kanye at Bonnaro (stopping songs to lecturing the audience (luckily there was enough good music at the festival that his performance was just funny and pathetic))

Rhythm Devils in Driggs, Idaho (crappy, uninspired performance and they didn't play any music off the Apocalypse Now soundtrack)

Saw The National like 2 years back and it was easily the most boring fucking show I've ever been to. They have the on-stage charisma of a sedated sloth, and the whole crowd was just awkwardly swaying like those dumb blow-up swaying dudes outside of used car shops.

I don't think they're meant to be listened to in arenas/stadiums/anything other than, like, a super intimate venue.

Dude i saw them 2 weeks ago and felt quite the opposite. Although I was right up front so that mightve added to it. Tons of energy from the band and the crowd was super into it. Whole crowd was singing Mr November. Then Matt came into the crowd during Terrible Love...man oh man what a fucking show.

I've seen Leftover Crack at least a half dozen times, but they've been actively terrible on stage since Stza's voice collapsed in 2006 and he became an unpleasant drunk.

I'm sending the above ITM vid to a friend of mine who does sound engineering and live mixing. See what he thinks.

LOL. Did you ask if it's possible for someone to put their hand between their mouth and the mic and have it not effect the sound in any way? I need a professional sound engineers opinion on this!

On top of this, when I saw them I couldn't even hear Tom's guitar, it never got corrected.

Worst I've seen was Motorhead. We left after ace of spades, which was early in the set. Just an absolutely obnoxious wall of sound. No making sense of any of it. We didn't get to see megadeth, but we had mainly gone to see Volbeat, who delivered the goods, so overall I still had a great time. Every time I've seen Volbeat, they've killed it. Michael Poulson sounds great and is engaging.

Megadeth.

The support bands, one of which was DevilDriver, had perfect sound. Then Megadeth's sound guy got in the booth and fiddled around for ages, the band didn't appear on stage for ages and, once they did start playing, the sound mix was just fucking atrocious. Awful, pathetic shit and I've never heard a "professional" band sound so fucking bad in my life.

Also, saw Job for a Cowboy supporting someone and they were absolute toilet. Mudvayne's another, just a fucking mess.

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
I wasn't there personally but my Brother went to see The Verve in 1998 and apparently they were so bad that everybody left before the encore.

You were at the show but you weren't paying attention to the loud band on stage?

Pretty badass damn

Maybe he was at a festival? Of you want to see a headliner sometimes you have to eat a lot of shit first.

It wasn't a festival but it was an outdoor gig, what with it being in Ireland most of the crowd were busy drinking while Linkin Park were on. They were given almost equal billing but 85% of the crowd were there to see Metallica, so LP got a pretty hostile reception.

Most underwelming band I've seen live thats popular was Beck. But this was when he first broke out big with Loser. It was a smallish venue and he just didn't seem to have the live show aspect worked out yet.

Never really had a bad live show experience, but I'll list an annoying one:

Sonata Arctica: The performance itself was great, but the band showed up so late to the venue after the supports had finished playing that everyone spent 45 minutes waiting around with no idea what was going on.

Aphex twin. It was cool to see that he is an actual human being, but it was ear splitting-ly loud hardcore rave jungle nonsense for two hours . I was deaf for a week.

Spin Doctors opening for Porno for Pyros. That song was their 20 minute encore.

Megadeth as part of the Big 4 tour where they toured with Anthrax, Slayer and Metallica, each band playing a gig after eachother. Megadeth was by far the worst of the four. Then again I was only there to see Metallica and wasn't a fan of any of the other bands, but they did sound kind of terrible.

Easy_D

never left the stone age
Yngwie Malmsteen. It was fucking atrocious.

He had the singer stand behind a curtain because obviously everyone should look at him alone.

I think they played one song, then he had to do a terrible guitar solo for at least 45 minutes, it was stupid :lol

Might not be the worst, but a 6 man Wu Tang Clan sans Rza and Method Man was pretty disappointing. I mean they're all talented mc's but the only 2 with any stage presence are Rza and Meth (and ODB obviously. RIP) . I've seen them both live solo (well, Meth with Red), and were 2 of the best shows I've seen.

Oh and how could I forget. Kanye when he toured 808s. Was about a year after he headlined a festival here and tore it up. He come out, did old shit for the 1st half of the gig, everyone was rocking out, then did a half hour version of Love Lockdown and other tracks from 808s no-one wanted to hear. I looked around a few times amongst the crowd, and I've never seen so many people at a gig standing around looking bored with their hands in pockets. The same show someone launched a 20c peice at him on stage, and he dropped a pretty sick freestyle on them. Easily the highlight of the night (and Nas was on the same card, so not a total waste). Pretty sure that bit can be found on youtube too.

Accept years back. Embarrassing. It could've been a roadie up there singing karaoke and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Sabaton opened for them and blew them out of the water. Think we left after like four or five tracks.

This is more personal taste too but I HATED the band Men of Porn. They opened for nearly every Melvins show from 06-08 and it felt like they played for two hours each time. I'm so glad that group fizzled out.

Reef in 1998, they were miming and even then the sound was atrocious.

Placebo in 2000 were just flat & clearly couldn't be arsed.

Chilis at Leeds festival in 2007 were lacklustre too, Kiedis couldn't be bothered & I swear Flea had a do at him at one point. Maybe I'm being overly critical though as they were amazing at Leeds 99.

I've had the usual off nights and stuff but I had to walk out of Mastodon like 3 songs in.

I was so disappointed. It seemed like everything was out of whack or tune , it was like a bad cover band doing Mastodon songs.

Shinedown
Granted I didn't like them before seeing them live and hated them more afterwards

The worse I've heard of was from a friend and Cage the Elephants where they had the crowd singing the songs 80% of the time

Muse.

I saw them right after the release of Origin of Symmetry (in 2001?), at it was a real borefest. No interaction with the public at all, they came, did their set, and left. No encore of course. They could have put the CD in the theatre that it would have been the same thing. I've been told they were having a bad day, but I heard the same report from other gigs, so it's like they are extremely bipolar: they either do a great show or a shit one.

I went to see them again in 2010, long after I stopped caring for them, and just didn't like what I saw. It was a massive show in a stadium, with lots of props. The show was very clean, very calibrated, and as a result super boring. The stuntmen etc were impressive, they had great lights and props, but I went to watch people playing live music and all I saw was a light show. Disappointed again.

Huh, I saw them back when they were touring with Slayer and others (Unholy Alliance Tour), and they sounded fine to me, but I'm also not a Mastodon fan (just went for Slayer)

Mastodon are one of those bands that have good and bad nights when it comes to playing live. I caught them on a real good night during the Crack the Skye tour.

Worst shows for me were Hank Williams Jr. (Fuck that guy), Kings of Leon, Sparta, and the Black Keys (Patrick was dragging on every song).

I can't imagine a bad My Morning Jacket show, but I guess everyone can have an off night.
