Would you ever consider abandoning consoles entirely for PC in the future?

GAF I've been an avid Playstation fanboy since the PS2 days with a side of Nintendo, but more and more I wish I gamed on my PC more. If Nintendo and Sony did not have compelling exclusives, I would probably jump ship entirely to PC. I don't see this happening now, but maybe a few generations down the road, considering the barrier to entry for some including myself might be an issue in terms of money.

I feel like Playstation and Nintendo consoles are only as good as their exclusives and first party ecosystem. For the time being, I enjoy Playstation's IP way too much, but if they were ever to come to PC, that would be tempting.

Thoughts?

Nope. I have a gaming pc and consoles and still find myself reaching for the console controller first as it is just an easier experience for me. I don't really like fiddling with settings and what not.

That said, PC gaming is awesome and well worth looking into for anyone with even a minimal interest. :)

I considered it at the start of the current generation (after owning a P3, 360 and a Wii), but ultimately ended up buying a Wii U for the exclusive local coop games.

So, whether I fully abandon consoles really depends on how many great exclusive local coop games Nintendo releases for Switch.

I like Sony's internal studios a lot, but the PC ecosystem has so much great history. If Valve could make the SteamOS platform as attractive, functional and user-friendly as PS4, it would be my primary platform for sure.

I expect VR to drive gaming in the direction of PC, but it will take 3-5 years to play out.

I've actually done the opposite recently. I used to play on my PC more, but as I get older (I'm not that old though lol) I barely turn it on anymore.

Might just be a personal thing for me.

There are too many worthwhile exclusives on consoles to ever truly consider abandoning them. I'm glad Microsoft made the decision of getting an xbox one easier, but Playstation's Q1 alone is reason enough to have consoles alongside PC's.

Consoles are reasonably priced, low maintenance and have exclusive software made for them for typically 5-8 years after launch. There's now way I could pass on all the exclusive games coming out for PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.

PC + Sony + Nintendo is the way to go.

My last console was the original psx. It all depends on your taste in games. I'm no longer into actiony games and tend to gravitate towards complex games usually requiring kb+m or euro crpgs which tend to play best on PC. I thought about buying a console over the years but no exclusives caught my interests.

Only if Nintendo starts making games for this.

Depends i wont some options on the new xbox to choose rez and fps i dont want 4k/30 would rather have 2k/60

Now that fighters are finally coming to PC as well (if only all were day & date!) there's no real reason to own a console anymore, apart maybe from some of Nintendo's stuff.

Already have. Missing out of a few big budget games pale in comparison to the hundreds of mid budget games out there that suit my taste better.

I tried to it last year and it didn't go very well.

Some games support controller. Some don't. Multiplayer is horribly imbalanced because of kb/m users. Some games looks gorgeous. Others don't run at all.

Console games may not look or run all that great, but at least they're consistent.

I haven't bought a console in over 10 years now, been solely a PC gamer, and I don't see that changing anytime soon!

I tried to, but I ended coming back. There are a lot of console aspects I like that PC just doesn't have, yet. Must say, Steam's efforts on big picture mode and controller integration is helping, though.

There's still a lot of games that come out on consoles that are exclusive that I care about, however there are a lot that get PC ports now. My only issue is that it seems PC ports for a good amount of games are pretty terrible, so I have trouble going all in. I also like owning physical games unless it's a game at a stupidly low price for example.

Microsoft putting a lot of games on PC though makes owning an Xbox almost pointless, but again the PC ports need a lot of work. Then there's Nintendo which is in its own world of basically requiring their hardware for the foreseeable future.

I haven't owned a console since the Gamecube. After the paradigm shift of the 360 generation I just didn't see any point any more. Previously PC-focused western developers now dominated the console market with the same kinds of games I already played on PC, while Japanese devs started regressing from the international mainstream and becoming too niche for my tastes. The console space no longer offered enough unique alternatives to PC for me to consider it a worthwhile investment.

I ummed and ahhed over a building a PC/Steam machine recently because my tolerance for shitty performance wanes with each passing year. Turns out though, that my distaste for poor performance has yet to outweigh my lazy-ass's preference for comfort and convenience above all else, so for now it's a no.

Nope, i went console to PC when the MMO craze was happening, but since then i've regressed back to the ease of a console and i'm quite happy about it.

My PC is really only used to acces the internet and my tablet takes over that function, i'll just ride it out till it breaks down and probably not even replace it, it is over 6 years old now anyways.

Not really, no. I'm 75% PC, 24% Nintendo and 1% Sony.

I could lose Sony and not care about it one bit, but don't take me away from Nintendo.

I'd only ever go full PC if the console market completely collapsed and everyone moved to PC. That's unlikely to happen.

Not entirely because who knows what the future holds but for me, consoles are for exclusives only at this point. Everything runs and looks better on my PC and I have a better experience personally on a monitor than a TV. With mid tier console upgrades now, it's a no brainer if you are technically inclined.
