Would you ever consider abandoning consoles entirely for PC in the future?

Outside of Nintendo and Naughty Dog I pretty much ditched consoles since I got my PC.
That's not to say that I wouldn't buy other games for consoles, but outside of exclusives I don't see a reason to.

For the moment I'm rather expecting that I'll have to abandon PC gaming if Microsoft wins and establishes their monopoly uwp store as the only source of games.

Valve thought of that already. The lifeboat is ready and there's room for all.

I'd likely abandon gaming before I abandon console gaming.

But in all likelihood, I think we'll just be in a future where console gaming and PC gaming are more or less indistinguishable from one another.

As long as there are Sony and Nintendo exclusives, no.

I can see a future though where both Sony and Nintendo stop making proprietary hardware through and everything will just be running on branded or built living room pcs.

Absolutely not. When I can afford it I own every one of the big 3 consoles. I never want to update or download a driver or want to know anything about one. Also PC exclusives just don't call to me.

I am more or less going the other way. Only play Lol, some rts and the very rare PC exclusive I care about.

Not many years ago I was more or less PC exclusive but now I find the console experience alot better than PC and have no intention of investing in a gaming PC at all, my crappy work laptop is enough.

I might. I've honestly barely played either my PS4 or Wii U this generation. I just got into Bloodborne and am adoring it, but I could just as easily find a game I love on PC.

In fact, because I got in early when Steam Sales were actually crazy, my PC backlog is huge. I'm considering just coasting on it for a couple of years. I can't even think of a game I *need* to play that's coming out this year, for console or PC. Maybe Final Fantasy XII PC? Even then... meh, I still need to finish VII, VIII, X and XIII -- along with other RPGs I own, like TitS.

I think I already have, my PS3 and Xbox One hardly ever get used and I dont plan to buy any more consoles.

If we're talking home consoles specifically, I'm already there. I've been on PC + Nintendo handheld for over a decade and I'm perfectly happy with it. I'll probably pick up a Switch, but I tend to see that as more of an extension of the handheld space than the home console space.

There are a few Sony exclusives that I'm a little interested in but never enough to justify buying a whole machine for it. And now that PSNow is on PC, I can catch up on that to my satisfaction.

Only Nintendo is stopping me from doing that.

But it's a good combo anyway, even better now that Switch will be portable.

So no... :c
But I still play fps on my pc, is it just better

I've kinda stumbled into just PC gaming over the last decade or so. At first because I couldn't afford a new console in the PS3/360 era and more recently just because their exclusives don't really appeal to me enough to warrant the cost yet. Assuming they keep games compatable in future iterations then I imagine I'll pick one up eventually.

If all AAA games had great PC ports on day zero, then maybe. The 2016 history wasn't that great though, with many games having many issues at launch on PC that didn't get resolved for a while, if ever.

That said games like Battlefield, Titanfall, Hitman, and Witcher 3 were all ones I played on PC and were absolutely fantastic from the get go. But I played FF15 (exclusive), Destiny, Dishonored 2, Forza Horizon 3, and others on console and am glad I did since they didn't exist on PC or had many, many reported problems. Titanfall 2 does have a minor issue of much smaller player base on PC than consoles but I only play attrition so its never been a problem for me, so far.

If console exclusives go away and the PC version of the game is the "baseline" then yeah I'd totally stop buying new consoles and focus just on my PC. I'd honestly prefer that since it would let me upgrade my PC more often, but for now I would not want to give up exclusives like Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0, Kingdom Hearts, The Last of Us 2, Nier, etc.

If Nintendo leaves the business, probably. PS3 was the last console from the big two that had legitimately compelling exclusives, in my eyes. That said, I would totally consider giving modern consoles a chance if either Sony or MS released a controller that replaced the right analog stick with a right trackpad. I love my Steam Controller, and it's a great way to play newer titles on my TV without sacrificing mouse precision, but I will admit the setup isn't as convenient as it could be.

No... unless Xbox and every other hypothetical non-Sony/Nintendo console manufacturer disappears.

I started gaming on consoles, until 1995. Then I played on PC for a decade and a half. Since I returned to consoles with the Xbox 360, and now the Xbox One, I have been more confortable than ever.

I need a reasonably powerful laptop for work, so if I want to run a game from the vast PC library, it´s probable that I can -unless it is, say, from the last three years- without another significant investment (hardware is comparatively very expensive in my country). I also play games from "non-console" genres (for example, flight simulators) and I use console emulators on my laptop.

For the newer, multiplayer-centric titles, its currently impossible to make me abandon the Xbox ecosystem. I couldn´t leave Forza / Halo / Destiny behind. I have a considerable contact list with whom I play multiple titles. I love gamerscore / achievements.

No, I won´t return to being a PC-only gamer.

I use to think that everything on PC would be ideal. Not anymore. I think both are complimentary. I see innovations for hardware and software on both sides and see value in both long term.

A PC + Nintendo console is all I need right now, but my roommate and I might buy a PS4 since the exclusives are getting good now.

Only when/if technologies are similar enough that emulation on PC is current iteration of console hardware or I stop caring about gaming. until then 90% PC. -8% Sony 2% Nintendo

EDIT - since Emulation is now starting to hit WiiU in a meaningful way...I suppose it would just be super staggered.. I would wait years until it hit PC..by then the games would be dirt cheap at any rate..hmm.. as since consoles are more and more realizing the gimped PC dream and getting more unified..this might happen sooner rather than later in the future.

The reason I own a console is because it is easy. I can use physical or digital media, and I all I have to do is put the disc in and it will just play. I don't need to worry about setting a resolution, adjusting the quality, AA, AF, minimum requirements, drivers, etc. I am far too lazy to keep up with all that stuff, and I don't want to have to do any research or leg work. I just want to play.

I own a console because of the ecosystem. I am familiar with it and it feels like home to me. I've built up a big library and I have a big friends list and achievements. When I boot up my console I feel comfortable.

I own a console because of the community. All of my friends play on the same system, so when I boot it up I can join a party with my brother, fiancé, a couple of friends, regardless what we are playing. Even if we are all doing different things, we all hang out and chat together. I can compare achievements, check out everyones activity feed, recent recordings, screenshots, join clubs together, navigate through LFG, etc all from the comfort of my couch without ever having to touch a keyboard and mouse.

I was a PC gamer when I was younger. I played a shit ton of counterstrike, and I have one of the original steam accounts. Once I got older I decided to get and keep using a console for all the reasons above, plus I didn't want to have to keep up with hardware on my end. I could easily afford a PC that would look and play better than my Xbox. I worked at a computer store for several years so I can easily build it myself. I choose not to. I doubt that changes unless PCs become more like consoles.

I dropped console gaming and have never looked back. I'm the only one of my friends that doesn't have a console, so it does suck not being able to play with them online, but whenever we get together in person to pick up some multiplayer games, we always gather at my place due to the sheer amount of options. They bring their controllers, I provide the games.

My first console was the Nintendo 64. My second console was the XBox. My third console was the Wii U.

Now I am exclusively a pc gamer, but I don't even own a computer with a dedicated gpu. I game on an laptop with integrated graphics and it's amazing. I use an xbox 360 and wii u pro controller.

I no longer own any of the original consoles and am slowly, game by game, rebuilding my childhood on PC. Steam and emulation are pretty much all I use. It's fantastic. I actually buy or already own the physical copies of the games I emulate btw, so don't come at me with that.

Already did.
Xbox One and PS4 offer nothing of value compared to a good gaming PC.

X360 & PS3 was the reduction in exclusives department and diminishing benefits compared to a PC.

Yes, Steam trading cards are my lifeblood. Games that don't have them are a waste of time, honestly.

I play on pc/steam mostly and i never bothered to find out what the hell the cards are. I get new cards inventory all the time. What is it for? I find it totally pointless. Enlighten me?

I considered it at the start of the current generation (after owning a P3, 360 and a Wii), but ultimately ended up buying a Wii U for the exclusive local coop games.

So, whether I fully abandon consoles really depends on how many great exclusive local coop games Nintendo releases for Switch.

This is it for me

I spend like 90% of my time on PC now, with the rest split between 3DS and Vita which I play when in bed or travelling.

There's just so much to play on PC, with so much variety, that there isn't much time left over to play my PS4 or WIi U.

So I pretty much have abandoned consoles, but it's still nice to have them there if I ever feel like a change.

just sell them, can go toward a new game

Games that support cards always have a set. Playing a game for a couple of hours gets you a certain number of cards, though never the full set. Crafting a full set gets you a badge for the game, which you can display on your profile. Badges also have a couple of levels, so if you really want, you can craft card sets more than once to level up your badge. It's a good way to show off your favorite games through your profile.

Personally, I find them a more appealing way of showing library favorites that platinum trophies on PSN. Some achievements nowadays get really mindless, and are just fodder for players to sink more time than necessary into a game. Not to bag on those who love platinum trophies, the concept just doesn't appeal to me.

I'm almost there already, if you took out the 2-3 console exclusives worth playing every year I'd be 100% PC.

I was kidding, they are useless.

they are useless cosmetic junk. You can collect and combine them to earn Steam badges.

After the SNES years ended, I played only on PCs all the way up through the Xbox 360. Once consoles got solid online multiplayer and all my friends started buying them, it just became more appealing to get a console. I was the only one in my group of gamer friends who had a gaming PC. I bought the 360, then the PS3, and now PS4+PSVR. I have become completely fed up with Microsoft products, and don't have any in my house any more, including Windows PCs.

I don't have a current gen console and I've barely played my PS3 in the last year or really since I bought a GTX 970 (which I've since replaced with a 1070) over a year and a half ago. I think the last time I played any game on my PS3 it was Dragon's Dogma just to set up transferring/converting my save data to the PC version. There's not really any console exclusives that make me want one and the Pro thing has reset the clock on when I might buy a current gen console.

I would never want to miss out on so many games. I want them all and the only way to do that is by owning everything that plays games.

I only game on PC now and use an xbox One controller so it is essentially the same. Missed out on a few games I wanted to play but I couldnt justify the purchase of a Ps4 or Xbox for 2 exclusives I wanted.

Entirely? Not quite yet, but it is getting awfully close to the point where I am content with PC + Nintendo. Still some Japanese publishers that haven't embraced PC yet though.

PC is the superior option. The way my whole library looks better, each time I upgrade a component. The fact I can select the controller from the manufacturer I prefer. Free online gaming. Cheaper games. Most impressive graphics. 21/9 resolution.

I won't go back.

I recently did that. I always had one or more new consoles, but now I only have computers (stationary PC as the main platform). I don't have anything against consoles, but I don't feel like I need them anymore. Might buy a Nintendo system sometime though.
