I do understand your point, and trust me, I really did enjoy 2K15, 2K16, etc. Those games delivered the experience I wanted - however lacking in certain modes which I have mentioned before i.e. triple threat/fatal four way elimination matches.
Then 2K17 comes out, and it's still lacking in match types, and assets still being used from past games. CM Punk is mentioned during Jericho's entrance? Also, the winner of the elimination chamber is the same celebration animation used in prior years. The menu system is a huge step back from prior years. Why just text boxes? I loved seeing the wrestlers portraits in all of the menu settings. WWE superstars draw our attention to the product, and to leave them out of the menus unlike past years is a real head scratcher. And then, no wrestler real life portraits in the wrestler selection screen, just in-game models. Again, prior years had the real life portraits. Why the change? It doesn't make sense.
Last night, I turned to 2K16 on PC and the amazing mod world (that I can't wait to dive more into). Being able to modify a match to turn it into an elimination triple threat/fatal four way is incredible. The ability to load in 2K15 wrestlers like CM Punk into 2K16. Using wrestlers portraits for CAWs. The PC mod community is pretty awesome. Because of that, I will definitely check out 2K17 on PC. But, I'm just not thrilled with 2K17 on consoles so far.
