Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

They can that's why some games like Witcher 2 works, but most games with multi discs aren't available digitally.

There must be quite a few multi-disc games that required the installation of the second disc rather than playing off it. Forza 4 and Halo 4 were like that, weren't they? Those would be fairly easy to replicate I imagine, but reduces the number of multi-disc games that work in the manner discussed even further.

Those games install the content from the 2nd disc as DLC.

Halo 4's main disc/ISO actually has a folder where this content will sit for the digital version. So it checks in this main folder first, then it checks the regular DLC storage location if it isn't there.

Ah ok. That's sensible.

Does make me wonder how many genuine, play-from-disc multi-disc games there are.

C'mon, Microsoft!
Please tell me you slipped some backward compatibility news into your press-only event on Thursday.
I would love to wake up tomorrow morning to another batch of BC releases.
(Yes, I know they said they'll simply release BC games when they're ready.)

The ability for users to install games didn't come til the end of 2008 and Games on Demand didn't turn up til August 2009, so anything from before that time is likely to be a multi disc game where installations weren't considered.

There is only a handful and are RPGs that have this problem, I think the other non-RPG games like Dead Space 2 and Max Payne 3 all came much later.

So I wonder how many people here(and everywhere else) jumped on the Dark Souls III preorder like I did only to be disappointed that they are not able to play Dark Souls on BC yet?

I mean, I am a huge fan of this service and the work it takes to keep it moving, but just don't promise something that costs an immediate $60 to get and then not deliver. I understand I am getting Dark Souls 3 for that money...and I was going to get that anyways, but when I do it sooner to get a reward within 7-10 days, I expect that to be delivered per their promise.

people had to wait 5 months for their gears of war codes, a few days wont kill you

played gears 3 after ages and im surprised at how well it is being emulated now. i would say it feels 99% like ur playing on x360. the input delay has gone and the frame rate is rock steady.

well done ms. now give me mgs collection

huh? Was there an update or something? last time i played it still suffered from heavy framerate drops and input lag

curses I thought this was an update on dark souls ;_;

God do I wish this also included og Xbox compatibility. I'm itching to play Sims busting out.

True. It's another example...Like I said, I am very happy that they decided to bring BC to the X1. I just wish they wouldn't put dates on stuff that they aren't 100% on. Did they announce a date for the 3 Gears codes? I remember getting mine fairly quickly.

Hopefully Dark Souls BC hits before Dark Souls 3 launches!

Of course the update comes out after I finish playing it! Gears 3 was stuttering so much in campaign co-op when I played the other day. At least I can try out multiplayer now.

Would love to play JSRF & Crazy Taxi 3 again, but this seems unrealistic.

Yeah, JSRF and Shenmue II are my picks. Of course, I would love to get proper HD remasters.

Good to hear about Gears 3 running better. It is the only one I never originally played on the 360 so I was planning to play it very soon.

It wasn't supposed to get out and MS nuked it so it doesn't launch anymore. Just like with RDR.

Did they ever give a reason to why they're holding back the BC for these games if they're clearly ready?

Makes me think they have a lot more games ready for BC and just aren't releasing them for some reason or another.

The reason could be that they need a final OK from Rockstar or whatever publisher they're dealing with as the final step.

Either some accidentally escaped from the 'in testing' step or they haven't gotten publisher clearance for them yet.

This has probably been posted already, but Condemned: Criminal Origins is now backwards compatible on XBox One. One of my favorite games of last generation.

I am playing through Mass Effect ATM. Started this past Saturday and the loading and non combat areas actually run better than 360. The combat is still a bit jankier than 360 though early on. I am hoping it doesn't get worse as more enemies appear. The black crush is annoying as hell though. I have a solar tube in my living room and the light really rips the shit out of the black crush during the day.

Does the Qubed disc work with the DLC on it? I'm tempted to buy it due to the built in 3.5 adapter and a nice pair of over the ear headphones. Lumines is so good man... though I could just play Electronic Symphony instead....

It would be awesome if all (unless if there is a remaster)

games on demand stuff would be BC

it will take a long time but I hope that is the goal and not just a few select games.

They need permission. Tying games to preorders seems like a handcuff to appease publishers.

This whole thing has been pretty disappointing really, but I'll blame the publishers instead of MS.

Which is just dumb for digital preorders. Let people play their old games, it'll get them more excited for the new ones. I don't want to play the older games when I have the brand new one in my hands.

I really don't get why the publishers aren't on board though. Like, isn't it basically free money for them? They don't have to do anything but give MS permission and then their game is available for purchase to play on a new platform. MS really needs to add a BC Xbox 360 games section to the XB1 marketplace. Maybe that'll convince more publishers to pull the trigger.

I do firmly believe this is the no.1 reason why publishers are not supporting fully. You can bet as soon as MS have an option to purchase via Xbox one, publishers will greenlight more titles.

Also another reason, some publishers would rather remake/collect "HD" versions of their games and charge you for them again. Recent example, Resident Evil 4/5/6, all of which could be made BC from 360.

But to be honst I like that the mainly add arcade games.

My reason is just that AAA games often don´t age well if you play them years later.

But a title like Carcassone for instance (or many other arcade titles) I can still play because it doesn´t look dated to me.

Hopefully part of March update.
