Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie got updates in the last few days so they're still cranking away at the emulator i guess

I'm sure they're working their tails off.

People are just impatient.

I mean, I want RDR like right now (I have the copy a bunch of us snuck)...just so I can use my save games/save my game.

I also want NCAA '14, but I feel like that will never arrive.

I'm patient though...so it's ok.

well you can hardly blame people for feeling like this program feels like it's not getting enough love. MS went from monthly guaranteed updates to updates when they come out and now we're entering our third week without so much as either a new announcement or release. Add to that the recent news about MS apparently shifting their xbox priorities around and now there's a fear that the BC program is being left in the dust

We just got the ability to purchase the games from the One marketplace, and it's still in preview... plus the multiple "leaks" of games being already playable (TTT2, RR) but not released.
Even if the game releases are not as frequent as we would wish, I'd say it's clear they're still actively working on BC.

So, what's this about releasing additional BC games by the end of March? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of releasing them "as they become available?"

I don't know about the end of March stuff but the releasing them as soon as they become available, as in have approval from both MS and the publisher to release it. If the publishers won't give them approval till the store is added then it's not "ready" yet.

If the end of March stuff is true it's possible they're going to unleash the beast with a ton of games when the store is available for all. We can always hope..

Where am I best off playing Gears Judgment now? There have been some patches to UE3 games, it seems, but I recall people saying that the later Gears games were pretty rough.

Is Symphony of the Night coming or what?
It's my first pin on my Xbox One dashboard, torturing me.

Apparently they did it because some games were ready to go, but they didn't have enough for a bulk release like they used to do. They must have realized that some of the games in the pipeline were going to take longer than a month to get out

I'm fully expecting RDR launching with an RDR2 announcement in the style of Fallout 4. Announce before E3, show it off there and release in Q4. RDR1 BC with preorder.

So in 2018?

I doubt that we will have to wait that long to get RDR through BC.

The version i have on my HDD is pretty stable already and fully playable.

Never. Not happening.

Guess what guys. Castlevania Symphony of the Night is finally working!
I'm downloading it now.

You have to add somebody who follows the game to your friends list, then look at their profile and view their follows, it shows up in there.

I followed the game so you can do it through my GT if you want, add me: Xbudz LIVE

You must own the game already (you can buy it on Xbox.com if you don't own it already)

Oh shit yes, finally a good bump in this thread. I still need to do the whole inverted castle.

SOTN is downloading super slow, but that's OK.
I waited this long to complete the inverted castle, I can wait a tiny bit longer.

How does the Live Arcade version of SotN hold up? Is it built off the same version as the PSP Dracula X collection? It was an earlier build of the game than the English PS1 version wasn't it?

It's so frustrating that Spelunky never got updated on Xbox. I got killed twice today by things that were obscured by the old UI...

Its all downloaded as one. You'll get the prompts when you start the game. Fast travel locations are all there as well.
This is weird. I bought Secret Amory and New Revolution back in the day, but not The Underdome or Zombie Island. I can access EVERYTHING with just the base game installed, but I can waste another 3 GB if I want to install Secret Armory and New Revolution. Why even give the option?

Now when I check it, it says Bundle Only, where it used to say Unavailable. Talk about blue balls

Edit: Just saw the part about having to buy it online and that it isn't playable anyway. The wait continues

Just had a thought and sorry if someone else already posted this.

I think we have been assuming that publishers might be holding back on releasing BC titles so that they can bundle them as pre-order bonuses for new titles, etc.

The other thought I had is that what if MS is holding some back for Games With Gold?

I could see RDR being a Games with Gold title in the coming months.

I think that they are holding them because the old games aren't a certified avenue for revenue. Most people with and Xbox One, without the upcoming BC Store, won't hasle with xbox.com to get the games. They will, however, approach the nearest reseller of used games.

With the inclusion of the Xbox BC Store, now publishers can have an easy approach to both newcomers and old clients (Who here hasn't even though about repurchasing a cheap digital version of an already owned Xbox360 game, just for the convinience of not swaping the discs?)

I think the Store will speed up the appearance of BC games.

Edit: Might I add, that it will become an even bigger avenue for revenue since the adoption of Digital Games, which is already on the rise

Yeah, I agree with everything you said. The only thing I am unsure on how these games are going to be priced. I could see BC games not being that cheap, even during sales. I am a PC gamer as well so I am spoiled by how cheap older games eventually become but when I look at pricing of older games coming to BC they don't really seem that cheap and don't seem to go on sale.

I have kept some physical copies of Xbox 360 games like RDR, Halo, GoW and others but I would much rather have the digital copies at this point, esp for BC. I totally plan on double dipping on digital versions if the price is right. I just hope it is.

Was this known?

https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/4ameux/what_happened_to_backwards_compatability/d11oxgj

To sum it up, they play every title to completion. All levels, all story line. They do this every time they make a major change to the emulator to fix issues (a test pass). He is quoted in the interview as stating that Lumines Live! took 200 hours to play as it had so many levels. They have to do this level of testing as they are contractually obligated to the publishers to put out a version of the game that does not introduce new bugs.

The good news is that they are getting the emulator to a state where some titles are starting to work properly, first time, without intervention.

Could explain the delay on some titles. Titles have to be thoroughly tested and the emulation is just now getting to a point where newly introduced titles run without issues.

Yeah, my guess is:
a) several publishers have been waiting for the purchase option in the store
b) waiting for games to become playable

I think we'll see a more steady stream quite soon.

It's the worst version of SOTN. It's got some stuff ripped out and the audio quality is pretty rough.

I would recommend the PSX or even the retranslated PSP version over the 360 version.

I don't doubt they have to play every game but in that case why not let preview members test them to help out?

Apparently they are working on 1600 of 1800 games on the xbox 360 too? Not bad if true.

That makes a lot of sense. I had t thought about that before. It would certainly behoove publishers to wait until there is a good chance at getting some free revenue before giving the go-ahead

People would end up treating such a pre-release program as just a way of getting the games early, and they would get frustrated when game-breaking bugs halted or deleted their progress, which could sour them on the whole experience. Even if they acknowledge that bugs will be encountered during play, they are still potentially getting less enjoyment than they would if they just waited a few months. When the whole goal of BC is making customers happy, you want to make sure they actually enjoy it fully.
