Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Yeah, I played it for like 5 minutes and didn't get any crashes.... Will play Gears 3 more thoroughly tomorrow tho

Cool. I really wanted to complete it again before Gears 4, but the campaign crashes prevented a friend and me from doing so last week. Will try again in the weekend :)

Played a match of COD 2 multiplayer earlier, played fantastic, the slower pace of the multiplayer felt extremely refreshing.

I forgot how shitty looking early 360 games were

To be fair, pc and ps2 ports were kinda crappy looking, while anything made for the 360 specifically - or even slightly more ambitious ports - still look pretty good.

I mean Kameo may be an extreme example to use as an argument, but even games like Double Agent and Tomb Raider Legend hold up pretty well sans performance. Hopefully bc addresses the latter, though.

PC games just weren't very ambitious with character models and animation back then, so COD, while gunning for 60fps, was still kinda stomping around Quake 3 grounds.

Ya but that you were able to "purchase" and tie to your account, which is much more legit. These recent games just showed up, no purchase, so easy to see it wasn't supposed to happen and you wouldn't keep them since they weren't tied to your account :P

Yeah I guess. *grumble*

I hope ilomilo comes soon to BC.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I recently bought a One S and am loving it. I also bought $10 on gift card just to have for whenever and was wanting to buy some avatar gear only to find out it doesn't allow me to use my $10... it requires a separate credit card payment method.

Does it work this way for the 360 backward compatible games too? If there is something I want to pick up someday, will it require a credit card? Because that is something that I will always refuse to do... so that would suck.

Damn it, every time I see this thread on the front page at this time of day I expect to find a new BC announcement :P

Still, I'm excited to hear Reach is FINALLY getting an update.

Also just to add - I downloaded Bejeweled 3, Zuma and Feeding Frenzy last night from the list of back compat titles in the Xbox Store. Ran Feeding Frenzy just fine and played it for about half an hour, and no, I didn't previously own any of those titles.

I believe they no longer work unless you have EA Access. They were part of that, it seems.

The only way to purchase Xbox 360 titles with Microsoft credit is to purchase it on the 360 hardware itself. On the web and Xbox One, it can't utilize the credit. It's been like this since they switched from MS Points to real world currency years ago.

Of note, if the backwards compatible title has in-game access to the store, you can purchase with Microsoft credit DLC and other items thru the emulated version on the Xbox One. That's really the only work around as of now.

It´s only on Tuesday and Thirsday this time (39 min ago).

Never on other days.

You need a card attached to buy anything from the 360 web store. Same goes for the X1 BC store because what it does is basically "translate" the website to your console. You can't buy 360 things with your XBL credit unless it's DLC from a BC game you own. To do so you need to launch that game and purchase the DLC from the ingame marketplace, that way you can use your credit.

You can also add Paypal and then remove the permission to MS from the Paypal website

Finished the 928MB update for Halo:Reach and YES, FPS appears to be a little stable in Firefight. (then again, it's been a while since I've touched this game on XB1) Gonna try MP & Campaign.

Just tried halo reach campaign and the framerate seems to be much improved, though still not perfect. Would love if digital foundry did a patch vs prepatch comparison.

People have already given an explanation to the whole credit problem, but why are you wanting Avatar gear? As far as I am aware, there are no Xbox One games that use Avatars and they barely appear anywhere on the system, just profile images. Their lack of use has been disappointing.

I just played Halo: Reach with the latest update and it's great now! Input lag is completely gone and framerate feels the same as on 360. I'm so impressed with Microsoft's effort on backwards compatibility and i hope they continue to make ALL of the great 360 games backwards compatible.

Backwards compatibility on Xbox One already blows the BC Xbox games on 360 out of the water. In quality and numbers.
It's a real pleasure to play my favorite 360 games with my XBO controller.

Keep it coming Microsoft, you guys are doing great. Respect.

Thought I'd give an update on Gears of War 3 as well
Looks like they indeed completely resolve the crashing! Played for an hour+ this morning and had no issues :)

Woo time to open up my copy and give it a go!

Music to my ears!

Last time I booted it up I saw my campaign progress was wiped for the umpteenth time, guess now's a good time to go through it again.

It has. And i can tell you this game also plays perfect now. No input lag anymore and steady framerate.

Gears 3 aged very well i think.

Digital Foundry should make some new videos about the updated BC games.

I should have checked the previous page, but thank you. I missed out on Gears 3 despite loving 1 and 2. Definitely time for me to jump in. It's a shame I grew so sour on the 360, but this backwards compatibility will make up for it. Time to try out everything I missed such as Reach, Halo Wars and Gears 3 etc

Played some Reach campaign and it runs very well. Still drops frames in the big encounters but it was the least stable 360 Halo.

I'm still hoping that MCC gets fixed for Scorpio/PC one day and they add Reach but this is a nice way to play it in our present reality. Controls took a bit of getting used to. Who maps the cycle grenades button to one of the 4 face buttons?

Bungie?

First time I've played some BC games in a while. Gears 3 runs great. Forgot I was even playing within an emulator until an achievement popped up.
