Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Also waiting I own the digital version.

Me as well. Could not pass up that $3.74 sale price last year. Although I think it has been that price again since then more than once. I think the delay right now is either bugs or just the lengthy play-testing the jrpg titles require. I mean they said Lumines Live required over 200 hours of play testing due to all the skins, levels and DLC.

I'm having a weird problem. I got an Xbox One today (the old VCR version) and while it's busy downloading Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3, I thought I'd pop in my Red Dead Redemption disc and play that a little.

Instead of getting a prompt to download and install the game, I just get the disc icon on the dashboard with "install disc" next to it. Pressing A does nothing, though. When I press start, "install disc" is grayed out and only highlights the help option. I tried Gears of War 3, Lost Odyssey and Forza Horizon and I had the same issue with those games.

Am I missing something? I already installed the latest dashboard during the initial setup.

Did you check the installation queue to see if it already was added to the list? If not, have you tried the infamous hard rest?

Try waiting until the other downloads are done before you try those. For whatever reason downloads start to fuck up when your downloading a lot of items at once.

The games have not been added to the list.

The console had been reset by the previous owner. I went through the complete OOBE when it turned it on the first time. It would seem weird if I had to to another hard reset. I did power cycle it, though.

I figured it could have something to do with the other games in the queue, but it struck me as super weird. I'll let Forza finish (only 7 GB left) and removed the other games from the queue.

I'll report back.

I cannot get Downpour to install from the disc. It just has a generic "Install disc" prompt on the Home menu and nothing happens. When I've had previous B/C games on disc, it usually recognized the game and has the game icon.

Did not see this. This is exactly what's happening to me with Downpour. I've installed Condemned, Doom 3, and Lost Odyssey from disc with no problems. Weird.

To fix this, search for the game on the Store, click on it, and then click on Install from there.

That totally worked! Thank you!

Know issue from October 12th update preview:

"• Installation
Xbox 360 backward compatible games fail to install from a game disc."

People having issue, if you are on update preview that's why

The workaround is to search for it in the store and install it from the store page

Thanks! I need to opt out of that. I only wanted in on it when they first started doing backwards compatibility.

Thank you. I had no idea the Xbox was running the preview. Since I was never invited, I have no way to opt out of it, because I can't install the preview app. Kinda funny.

Anyway, the workaround worked well for Forza Horizon and Gears 1-3, but it didn't work for RDR, oddly enough. I went to the store page and it didn't show the install button. Only "see price", which then gave me the option to buy the game and Game Hub, where I can't find a way to install the game either. The Game Hub has a "launch game" button, but it takes me back to the store. Really annoying.

At least I know it's not a hardware problem.

Downpour ran like absolute ass. Hopefully it gets some improvement performance wise.

It's a very divisive entry in the series. I enjoyed it for the most part. I must have done I played through it multiple times to 1000G it....

Absolutely incorrect. It's got an unfortunate amount of jank to it, but it also features some of the best moments the series has to offer post-SH2.

It's really underrated. It might not have the Silent Hill authenticity purists might seek, but it's a cracking horror game in its own right.

Heh I enjoyed Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, one of those games that I just kept playing randomly and turns out I had fun. Not even sure how or why I started playing it but still.

Nearly 100%'ed it too just couldn't be bothered with a couple of the Achievements I think.

Would be really cool if MS to throw up all the DLC for Forza Horizon for free. I know it won't happen but a man can dream :P

Anywho, I downloaded all of the free cars for it on the webpage and went to my console and the December IGN pack and January Recaro Pack are showing as owned and installable for me. I don't recall every buying them

I feel like Downpour had really bad screen tearing too. If that is the case, I guess that will be solved at least. Have to wait on a digital sale to test it though as I'm pretty sure I sold my old copy.

Downpour was solid outside of the terrible enemy designs and absolutely horrid performance. If the XB1 can help on the performance side, I'd happily revisit it.

That happend to me all the time with my launch Xbox . It would sometimes take up to 20 time popping the disk in the machine for it to install. Sometimes restarting the Xbox would work. Not too often tho. I find the best thing to do to get the disk read is too pop in a game that you already have installed. After that game loads up, exit game and than put disk in that you want to install. That worked for me. I got a new xbox and I don't have this issue anymore.

Downpour is probably my second favourite silent hill game, so stoked for that one - I sometimes feel like the only one on Gaf that enjoyed it

The worst thing I've noticed is giant frame skips when the game loads an upcoming section during gameplay. Can't remember if the 360 version did the same because it's been a while. Otherwise, it runs very well.

Yeah opening doors, dropping down into a new area etc in the 360 version would result in stutters. Good to hear aside from that it runs well, because the 360 version certainly did not.

AvP- I just want to re-feel a 6v6v6 soecies team deathmatch #sogood.

I agree. That game was surprisingly populated on 360 for a few years, even some of the DLC maps, I doubt anyone is still playing it now, but a backwards compatible player base refresh would be amazing! Very few multiplayer games manage to capture horror as well as AvP did.

The more interning thing is , does the game download the region of the store that you are currently in, even if you have a different version of th game?

It does. That's how I got the uncut South Park version in europe by setting my console to US.

I played some Puzzle Quest 1 last night and everything worked fine outside of a bug with the DLC that also existed on 360. I wanted to let everyone know about it in case they think it's a BC issue. Basically, if you have the Plague Lord expansion for the game, there is something like a 10% chance that the game will not recognize it when you boot it up. It acts like the DLC isn't installed, so if you're using one of the new classes introduced in the DLC you'll receive an error message when you try to select them. When this happens you have to exit out of the game and re-start it. Most of the time the game will recognize the DLC on the second attempt. I'm not sure what causes this, maybe it's hurriedly pressing start through the intro logos or something, but this same issue affected the 360 release so it's nothing new. Not a big deal but just FYI.

You weren't. If you go back to the official thread during its release - I was pretty positive about. It doesn't sit nearly as high on my own personal favorites in the series but aside from the performance issues on release - I think there was a lot to like about it.

Anyone with XBLA retail discs able to take a look at this page and let me know if the disc works for BC on your console? I'm putting together a thread/google doc for physical releases of games but, aside from still needing to test my Ubisoft disc, there a lot of games on 360 that I don't have access to for testing.

Just want to give props to BC! Just finished red dead redemption. A game I would have missed out on as I have moved onto the current gen. systems.

Thank you for the reply. It turned out that the Xbox is running the current dashboard preview, which has a bug that prevents 360 Discs to be recognized.

The workaround is to put the disc in, go to the Store page and install it from there.

Weirdly enough, that hasn't worked for RDR and Lost Odyssey, which is really annoying.

If someone could send me an invite for the dashboard preview program, so I can opt out of it and use BC, I'd really appreciate it.

Did you do the real ending? If not, go back and play :)

I did! The game sets it up so well that once
you become jack
you know exactly what you want to do without the game needing to put an obvious marker on the map.

Now onto another BC title. Witcher 2. Want to play that before I play witcher 3.
