cant redeem my gears of war codes that microsoft send me... keep saying no valid in my region... when i input it on their website always something went wrong phrase.. wtf.. and when i try to purchase a 360 game keeps redirecting me on spanish menu.. frustrating...

You should check your account's region, maybe you had it set to spanish on X360? Because you can move freely on X1 but you couldn't on X360, and region transfers could only happen once every three months.

My S just came in a few days ago... I got the standard white model. I bought a 360 near launch when Gears of War came out and it was my favorite system last generation with great memories. The original Xbox One just didn't appeal to me. The Xbox One S really caught my eye after MS announced a certain 2 JRPGs that became BC and I decided to pick one up.

What I like about it :
  • The looks. All of my other consoles are black and this stands out nicely. I love the design of this box. My specific box has a slight indentation on the front white plastic that is driving my crazy, but from far away you can't see it. First world problems. The back is also well designed with the ports being laid out very cleanly. And no messy power brick that I have to hide somewhere! Kudos Microsoft. You done good.
  • The S controller is my new favorite controller. I bought 2 more after playing with it for a few hours. One for my PC and a secondary for the Xbox. I love the texturized back, the size fits great in my hand, and the D pad tactile clicking just feels so good. I cannot stress how great this controller is. Time to retire my old wired 360 controller. Rest well, old friend.
  • It is quiet. I must have gotten a "good" fan model because I don't hear this thing idle or gaming. It also runs pretty cool.
  • I can play Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon with no studders or tearing or lag. It is absolute bliss with LO as it is one of my top 5. Just waiting for Ninja Gaiden 2, Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery and I'll be set. Side note : Symphony of the Night is also BC which was a pleasant surprise.
  • Streaming to my PC. I haven't tested it yet, but if its like the PS4 it will be nice to stream a game to my laptop so I don't have to be in my cold man cave and can play a game while watching Gilmore Girls with my wife in the living room...I mean, I don't watch Gilmore Girls. I don't know who Rory is. Luke isn't my favorite character. I'm not on season 6.
  • Downloading games. Geez, MS kills it when it comes to downloading. I popped in disc 1 of Lost Odyssey and the 22GB file downloaded in about 40 minutes. On my PS4 it takes a good 2-3 hours to download a full game.
What I don't like about it :
  • The UI. Man, I wish I could just have it wake up to a list of games. I'm greeted with a giant box of who knows what and random ads surrounding it. It took me a good few minutes to find the "Your apps and games" box. Coming from the streamlined UI of the PS4 and Wii U which just is just "boom here are your games" I was a bit overwhelmed (in a bad way) of all the clutter. It also feels a bit sluggish. While exploring the settings and apps some took a bit to load. These are native settings...IE Edge or setting up cable TV! These first party apps shouldn't take over a minute to load. I'd love it if Xbox gives us more control on what we get to see when you turn the Xbox on. Or who knows, maybe I just need to get used to it?
  • Lack of Japanese games. More of a personal preference, but I loved the 360 because of the moderately strong JRPG exclusives they had. While I justify the One S purchase because of the BC of Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon (and hopefully more on the way!), I'd love to see some more exclusive games from the East.
  • A small gripe, but mine didn't come with the vertical stand. All the unboxing videos and reviews I watched it was included. Maybe that was just for the initial release of the S model, but I was a bit disappointed. Vertical consoles are the best consoles.

Lately I have had this small annoying issue where any voice command I initiate with Cortana fails on the first attempt as she says she does not have an Internet Connection, but then it works right away on the second attempt. Is this limited to the S itself or is this just a known issue with Cortana on the XBox?

Upgraded to an s because of the deals on black Friday and I'm quite a bit dismayed that UHD Blu rays can not be played in HDR because it has hand off issues with my TV. I was hoping for better because although I went with the cheaper option of TV (new Vizio m series), HDR works perfectly with my ps4 so I figured that would be the case with the Xbox as well.

Here's hoping a supposed update coming out from Vizio and fixes it but since I don't really own any UHD Blu rays it's not a huge loss. Standard Blu rays with 4k remastering look pretty spectacular and I feel they look better than trying to play them on aps3 and having the TV upscale.

Love the new form factor though and i can only hear the fans slightly if I let the console sit on the menu.

Only included with the 2TB model, I'm afraid.

Edit: Well shoot, beaten by several minutes. So um, shoot. I got nothing more.

Wife and I got the 1tb green battlefield machines and they include the vertical stand... Not sure what all other bundles include them though.

I've decided I am returning mine, the fan noise is doing my head in. I'm wondering if the Storm Grey model is any better as those might be from another (later) batch or does that have a fan lottery too?

Go anyway on the xbox.com website and change your region to your proper one, maybe you had the email set as spanish, X360 accounts used the same one as your Microsoft account (previously called Live accounts).

Had an Xbox One before but sold it. Bought an S primarily for 4k Blu Ray. I own a Gaming PC and a PS4. What games should I buy for my Xbox? I have MCC, Rare Replay, and Sunset Overdrive so far. I had a PS3 last gen but didn't have a 360 so feel free to suggest 360 titles as well. I'll probably be rebuying RDR when it hits $7 since the PS3 version was trash in comparison

Forza Horizon 3 is a must. Gears of War 4
Backwardsd titles? Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Fable 2, Gears of War 1-3

I got my xbox one s a week ago and it was not remembering my wireless connection whenever I turned the console on. I would have to reset my router in order for it to connect. I then connected the console to my 5ghz network and it works fine so far.

Any ideas as to why?

Following up on my feedback on the new white controller, it's been working near flawless on my android phone and fire tv stick, there's no need to buy a dedicated bluetooth android controller when you can buy the xbox one S pad

I have the issue as well with my grey unit sadly. Shipping it back for a replacement.

Storm Gray here, still a fan lottery. Personally, I just moved the unit to a different spot in my entertainment center so I couldn't hear the fan anymore.

Good to know. I wonder if they sell a clip to attach the controller to the phone.

Got Forza 3 on PC but tbh I kind of got burnt out on it because of all the issues it had on launch. Gonna play the Gears trilogy before 4 :)
Seems microsoft still sent me 1-Judgement for redeeming one of those revoked Gears 4 keys from the Amazon error. Now I need to decide if I should start from the original or play the Ultimate Edition of the first game.

Own Bayo on Wii U

I completely forgot about Fable. That's a good suggestion

Edit: wrong thread

Edit: I've only found out that I needed to manually adjust HDR brightness in-game yesterday. No wonder I wasn't impressed before.

My X1S is super quiet even if I put a disk in it remains quiet some times I have to look at it just to make sure its on.

uhh so whats the point of a disc if you have to install the entire game? Coming from wii u this is bizzare.

How can you play xbox one without internet lol?

How does the sound of the disc drive compare to that of the PlayStation 4? Is it any quieter?

Fairly comparable. Probably a little louder on the PS4. Not something you hear outside of disc installations and Bluray movies anyway.

Saves you from having to download the game and it can be resold.

Not sure I understand the second question. The only time online is mandatory is during the initial setup of the console.

Got an S on Black Friday, already owned the previous one. Controller is night and day better
OS seems much smoother. Things used to chug on my old one
I've noticed faster download speeds via wifi, idk if they upgraded the chip though. I didn't play the original too much lately can't remember if I ever played on my current router.
It's so small and sleek I got the deep blue gears 4 bundle, it looks a lot nicer than the VCR look from before.
It's also silent. The PSU for the old one was so fucking loud that I had to always turn it off and hated it for watching anything. I can use the S for blurays and always have it in standby. In fact there is no noise at all in standby mode now and as a result I leave my Xbox plugged in and actually use it.

Is there any preferred or first party hard drive add on? I assume just get the cheapest USB 3.0 Amazon sells?

I'm currently having trouble watching Netflix in 4K. My Xbox One S is set to 4K, and my connection speed meets the requirement. All of the 4K videos on Netflix though are only showing in regular HD. Not sure why.

do you have the 4k plan? It's an extra addon, costs an extra 1-2$ a month.

Does Microsoft normally have any sales getting close to Christmas or New Years? I missed out on the $250 Black Friday sales...
Also, if you watch a 4K blue ray on a 1080p tv, does it downscale to 1080p or refuse to play?

Got it for 212 on cyber monday with bf1 included. I had the other x1. I sold bf1 on ebay in 20 minutes for $45. Gonna sell my x1 next.

Model S - truly amazing design and build. Head abd shoulders above og x1.

I remember olaying Skate 3 on og x1 with very noticeable frame dips. This is no longer the case on model S!

Sony messed up by not including bluray player. That was sole reason i got model S. Haooy i did.

I've got 2TB Seagate. More might be necessary going forward though.
How many games do you have on it? I'm not really worried about needing a larger one at some point though, I'll just make sure I get a pocket drive and use it with my mbp when it fills up and by a larger one for the Xbox.
Do you know if I can partition it or if the Xbox demands the whole thing?

hmm not sure then bro, sorry I can't help.

Thanks again though.

Could anyone with the Netflix 4K plan check to see if the "ultra 4K HD" icon is showing for them? I called Netflix earlier this morning and they said that there is currently an issue with icon descriptions.

What? So you're installing the game from the disc or downloading from the internet?

Either way I still don't get the point of it, seems like a major inconvenience if anything.

Surely less of an inconvience than longer loading times and having games that physically can't exist due to not being able to load from disc quick enough.
I

It's not really that hard to understand, people did it on 360 and OG Xbox for speed loading . PCs have done it for like 20 years....

Sorry thought it was installing from internet. load times never bothered me too much generally speaking.

I had a friend over last night, who'd never seen an X1 before. He didn't know if the S was the mainline model, but was really impressed with how nice it looked.

I agree. It's the nicest looking console ever made.

It's not just to reduce load times. The size of assets have increased again this generation, a Bluray drive can't stream them quickly enough as the drives in the PS4/XB1 are only 3 times as fast as the one the PS3 had. Open world games especially would not be viable.

PS4 does the same thing but it's generally faster at installing than the Xbox one. Games play off the hdd. You either install through a disc or download. The disc acts as a key for ownership or you buy a license which is tied to your account. When you launch a game the system checks for a license. If you don't have one the disc needs to be in the system. Installing from discs will download patches at the same time if you're connected to the internet. If you want to own a digital license but don't necessarily want to waste bandwidth you can borrow a disc from a friend or just copy the install and buy the game on the xbox store to tie the license to your account. The ps4 is different I think in that disc installs and online installs are keyed differently. One other thing where Xbox has an advantage is that you can play games off USB storage.

The PS4 is considerably faster. I got Bloodborne recently and after a 10 second wait and a 200MB patch download to the latest version I was able to launch the game and make my character and after I had done that had it not been for the whir of the drive I would have been none the wiser as to whether it had done installing or not because the game played perfectly.

With XB1 if I come home in the evening to a new game I am not going to get more than an hour of playtime before bed because of awful installation times off the Bluray and the propensity for gargantuan patches. It's miserable and I hope MS sort it out.

got Halo 5 (which came with MCC), and GoW 4 (which came with GoW1+2+3) when I got my S last week cuz I feel like getting into shooters. which series should I dive into first?

Are you in the mood for a cover shooter (Gears) or first-person shooter (Halo).

I personally enjoy Gears more because it's a lot of fun, there are a lot of great personalities, and the story is easy to follow across games. I have a lot of fun with Halo, especially co-op, but I have given up trying to follow the story.

I will big up the other series and say Halo. Other than a little stumble with Halo 4 the entire series is great. Make sure you buy Halo 3 ODST (£4 dlc for MCC) because it's really something special.

Really though, you should alternate Halo and GOW games so you don't get sick of either series.

Depends, if you want a grittier story go Gears, a futuristic sci-fi killing aliens, go Halo.
