Xbox One S Thread: The S is for Sexy

I'm in a similar position: I just got $180 credit from Gamestop for my OG XB1. Having just bought the KS8000, I'm looking for a UHD player. Is the S legit?

I almost certainly won't pay $200+ for a stand-alone UHD player.

yes it's good, though it has some challenges around some of the high end audio formats (Atmos and stuff) so if you have a nice sound system, investigate to ensure it'll do everything you want.

Otherwise it's fine as a UHD player in the immediate term.

Hi all. I just got my Samsung KS9000 mounted and hooked up. I booted my Xbox 1S and it recognized that the TV was 4K and asked if I wanted to switch the output to 4K to which I selected 'yes' of course. Almost as soon as I did so the screen started flickering black. I get probably 1-3 seconds of video followed by multiple seconds of black, depending on how much is shown on the screen.

I'm using the original XB1S HDMI cable to my Receiver, and a Twisted Veins HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV.

Could this be an issue with the HDMI cable?

Atmos is coming via an update, too.

I've got a Samsung tv and I n had to set it up in the tv menus, I found a video on digital foundry about which settings to alter, might be worth you checking that out on their YouTube channel.

Hey XboxGAF I just decided to upgrade to the S and I was wondering if I can do a system transfer between my two consoles instead of having to reinstall everything again? I know my saves will transfer but I'd really rather not spend a few days just installing and downloading patches if I can avoid it.

Sorry if it's already been answered
If you have an external HDD you can just move games there

Doesn't Xbox One have bitstream output option now? The audio data is passed to AV receiver undecoded, so whether you get Dolby Atmos or DTS:X depends on your AC receiver.

I don't have an external so I was hoping I could do a LAN transfer like it did with my PS4s. Oh well

One more question, my S is saying my TV isn't HDR compatible so I can't use it for games or movies, but I know for a fact it is since I've used the HDR modes for FFXV and Uncharted 4 with my Pro. Anything I can do about it? It's a Sony X850D if that helps at all

Different ports sometimes have different resolution/HDR support maybe, atleast that's what I heard often

Is Tales of Vesperia available for digital purchase on the xbox marketplace and can the xbox one play it via backwards compatibility?
edit: did some research and it looks like it's not backwards compatible :(

Do you have HDR enabled for the port the XBS is connected to?

My LG required each port to be enabled for UHD Full Colour separately. By default they are off.

If you're using an AV receiver for HDMI pass through, some receivers don't work with HDMI.

I picked one up racently. Mostly for Ori.

Loving the controller. I missed it. I was a huge 360 fan and it's nice being in that ecosystem again.

My issue is the UI. Boy it's a mess, huh.

Metro was so simple in the beginning. Now it's so convoluted. Definitely getting an Elite controller in time.

Any good USB Powered Externa HDDl recs? One that can match with my white S?

Picked one up from Costco last night for the $228 Minecraft bundle. Coming from a PS4 pro the UI is just all over the place and it's hard to navigate. However, the system itself is beautiful and I actually really liked the packaging as well.

I'm having an issue however where the controller for some reason stops responding. Like the light is on but sometimes when I move the stick or press something, nothing happens

Did you update the controller? If not, try that.

I can't tell whether I have a good fan or not. By no means is my unit loud but the sound it makes is kind of irritating since it isn't smooth

Unenroll from the Preview Program

Guys, sadly I don't have the transcript because I think the email they sent me has an error, but I've been talking to a guy in Support Chat and he insisted that I should unenroll. Something to do with the Preview Program we are already in being old, and could end up messing things up in the future.

So, go into the Insider app, unenroll, then within 72 hours it should delete the app and do a factory reset (you'll keep your saves etc.) ~ when another Insider update or something comes out, you should get the message for it.

I'd make a thread, but...

Quick question,

Have any of you had issues with 4K bluray playback? I've tried 3 different films (ghostbusters, central intelligence, the revenant) and they always get these weird glitches in spots. Sometimes it's minor (like in my case with ghostbusters) -'d other times it makes the film pretty much unwatchable (central intelligence for example).

I initially thought it was the disc drive itself but regular HD bluray play just fine.

I wouldn't have a clue, but are you using the bundled HDMI cable? Is the TV you're plugging it into have HDMI 2.0 for all ports?

And I believe the tv I have has 1 hdmi 2.0 (its the Samsung ku6300. Got it and the Xbox S as a package deal from bestbuy)

I'll mess around with the HDMI settings and see what's up. Thanks!

I literally unplugged my external drive from my OG Xbox One and plugged it straight into the S. (plus logging in of course)

Is there a list of games that actually support HDR right now. All the list that ive seen mention games tbat have it and ones that are supposed to get it, but it doesnt mention whose up and running. I have Gears 4, FH3 (working), Recore (support coming), BF1 and Hitman are listed but neither shows HDR when playing so I assume support is coming. I just want to know all the games that support it now.

there is something up with my fan. t the home screen the fan is quiet but i noticed after watching some tv shows it was a lot louder. that's to be expected of course but it was a sort of clicking sound. i can't be bothered returning it but it's just annoying why it's doing that. i assume it's the bearings or something cause there is nothing the fan can be hitting off.

According to Mike Ybarra Twitter those of us in the preview should be seeing Bitstream/Dolby Atmos support in tonight's preview update.

Ugh why can't Microsoft let me pick the game I want for a bundle or just let me buy the system at a discount without the game. I don't want Gears, Battlefield (have it on PC already), Minecraft, or Fifa. Halo bundle is nowhere to be seen as well..

I'm thinking about getting a Slim later this week. It will be $200 before tax at Meijer( midwest store ) when I use a 20% off coupon. I also get a $25 off my next shopping trip coupon for buying the X1 and another $5 off my next shopping trip thanks to their Rewards program( since I'm spending over $150 ). So around $160 total, as long as I get the white BF1 bundle and sell BF1.

What's a fair price to ask for my Day One edition console? Doesn't have a Kinect and it has a 3rd party power cord. $120?

Greetings fellow Xbox One S owners!!!

Me and my Wife will be moving at the end of January and I have started going through some of my gaming stuff and going through boxes. I will have some stuff to give away as I will not need them.

Since I want the codes and other things to go to actual members, please PM on what you want. First up is I have 2 14 day Xbox Live Gold Trial codes to give away.

For what its worth, you can buy Halo 5 and the Master Chief Collection for pretty cheap now a days. I was similarly disillusioned that I could not find a Halo bundle locally but picked up both those collections via code online for about 20$. :)

I assume you don't have the box or manuals either? Are you including any games or controllers? If it's just the console then $120 sounds about right and add another $20 for shipping.

I was thinking Craigslist or a Facebook Yard Sale group. I do have the original packaging.

I've decided I'm picking up a S tomorrow. I want to enjoy my 4K HDR TV to the max. I have a PS4 Pro for 4K HDR gaming, which is great, but its upscaling of bluray leaves a lot to be desired. I also own several movies in UHD already and want to put them to use. The X1 S is $20 cheaper than the only 4K UHD player at BestBuy or on Amazon, so, yea.

At least I already have an Elite controller I use on PC. Any games I should really pick up when I get the console? I haven't played a Xbox One game since Ryse I think, two years ago.

Rare Replay. ReCore is really good and has a 30 minute trial. Give it a try to see if you like it. It's also $20 at microsoftstore.com

Question for 4K OLED owners: I heard in another thread that apparently the XB1 has a problem displaying gamma correctly. I noticed something was off when I was playing Killer Instinct; the background seemed overly dark, with some details being obscured by the extra amount of black. Examples include Jago's hair melding into the VS screen background, the square grids on the training stage disappearing, some logos also being obscured, etc.

Switching the gamma setting on my OLED from its default 2.2 value to 1.9 fixed this considerably, even though a lot of people insist that the setting should stay at 2.2. I'm pretty certain my other settings are correct, with the color setting on the XB1 set to standard and 10 bit, while my TV's black level is on Low. Can anyone else confirm here? And does this only apply to 1080p content on the XB1?

Has anyone used Spoticast? I'm tired of having to listen to music from my phone/computer and not be able to hear any game audio and Groove/Pandora are terrible services.

So I'm having an audio issue on my new xbox one s when watching blu-ray's.

I have audio set to go over HDMI to my tv (a 4k set, samsung KS8000). The audio setting is set to bitstream out, and I have the type for dolby digital.

From my TV, I have an optical cable that runs to my receiver. Had to do it this way because I just have a 5.1 setup that doesn't pass through 4k/HDR.

Movies are terribly out of sync. If I change the HDMI audio output settings on the xbox to stereo uncompressed, it seems to be synced up fine. Does the S have an issue with bitstream or something? It works fine on my ps4 pro.

Frustrating to say the least, I bought the one S mainly to be a video player.

I have Xbox One upstairs and S downstairs.
Downstairs is my primary.

I can't play games for very long upstairs due to the internet connection has been quite poor. Playing a game I will be kicked out after 30 minutes or so due to internet cutting out.

I was wondering how often can you change your primary Xbox one? Can I do it every day or twice a day or is there an actual limit?

Why wouldn't you just make the upstairs one the primary then and keep it there? If you don't lose connection on the downstairs one, it can play all digital games if you are logged in.

Got my replacement S yesterday, fan is even louder than the first one. Has anyone tried to fix this on their own? I imagine it's a simple PC fan no?

You can change which console is your home Xbox up to three times during a one-year period.

Your best bet is either making the upstairs system your Home system (assuming your connection for the downstairs one is reliable), or looking into a more reliable networking solution (I'm going to assume you're using wifi right now).

Maybe try powerline?
