XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

I'm starting to majorly hate this game over how many missed shots there are. It's really starting to suck the fun out of it for me.

But... That's a strategy game for you. It's a roll of probability. If you're missing shots you should be trying to position better or not take those shots that you only have a 30% chance of hitting.

What? Oh my god this is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I'm making this my desktop background.

I think there is some potential for Viper mods. Make them look like huge, disgusting snakes (no boobs), some snake-human-thin man hybrid (no boobs), or maybe like Dark Souls Serpent Soldiers (no penis). Maybe make the Archon look like Floaters, but with exposed human features, rather than Muton, as opposed to the Mr. Fancy Pants we have now.
I'd settle for a mod that removed the boobs.

Mammaries on non-mammalian creatures remains a pet peeve of mine that gets triggered way too often for my tastes...

I get the feeling you're a little sensitive about this, and really it's such a meaningless detail.
It's a common flaw with creature design from all across fictional media in general. It's meaningless and insignificant the first time. After the hundredth example, it's become a trope, a pattern, and an annoyance.

It's particularly personal to me because the media (in general) seems to have a thing for denying the existence of adult women without noticeable mammaries. Like, even when they have to make up justifications for the inclusion of boobs, even when it's not even a bloody human being, they fucking do it.

It doesn't affect you guys, I know that much. I don't blame you for not caring. But don't tell me how "meaningless" it is just because you don't notice or pay attention to it.
EVERY. TIME.

(It's okay, I'm not mad or anything. It just keeps happening!)

Don't give a shit about these kinds of post-hoc justifications.

They look like mammaries, they're placed like mammaries, they're mammaries. Real venomous snakes don't even have visible glands. Trying to pass off one thing as another is just insulting.

I know, but I thought it was supposed to be a design feature. Something about blending of human form and other stuff to better pacify the populace about giant ass snake people walking around.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that boobs = women is a pretty tired trope, but that detail seemed to me like the sort of thing ADVENT would totally do.

So that if it gets taken down there or something happens they can dl it from nexus I guess
If you can manually download and install a mod it's not entirely harder to just dig through the file folders and copy the mod folder. Some people I swear.

Yeah... The Viper design is a bizarre choice in the face of everything else in the game. Boob armour, etc; I don't think there's a single other unit where it's this pronounced. Even the soldier armours are pretty grounded.

Mechanically, I really like Vipers though. It resurrected the Snake Man and continued the Thin Man's lineage of being a battlefield horror.

Personally I find the Codex weirder. It's supposed to be some kind of multi-dimensional alien being... That looks like a human woman. At least the snake ladies have the excuse of being an inbetween of thin men and their original forms.

Nah it's just a neogaf "meme" generated by a guy's comments which I can't find. It was quite funny tbh if you have played the game.

Ah lol. I don't know much about Dying lIght besides that it has zombies

I kinda wanted to know more about Codices.

I agree with Quicnock, fwiw. It's a minor detail, but the Viper design is plain silly to me, and I find all the meme stuff around it embarrassing.

At least they didn't stick with the original reveal design which was just naked snake tiddies.

Edit: Hm, maybe I just saw the concept art first and attributed it to the original review.

Oh right. I completely forgot about the Codex.

I like the design solely because of the Super Saiyan hair. Beyond that, humanising it at all seems unnecessary.

The population will be pacified because they are masturbating to snake lady porn instead of thinking of rebellion. ADVENT are geniuses.

It's really strange to me that actual game XCOM 2 brings almost no attention to it at all. Maybe Tygen makes a comment during surgery, I dunno.

It's like it was designed entirely for the memes.

Weren't most enemies in XCOM 2 ?
They had some human DNA spliced in, but they were mostly alien.

IIRC, Jake Solomon said there'd be no snake men, so someone did a snake lady instead, probably aware that the internet would latch on it because of Rule 34/humans being pervs.

Yeah, I think the autopsy makes some sort of a joke about it. I think I blacked that out.

Ignoring the boobs on a snake thing, it feels like a wasted opportunity (IMO) to make something truly memorable or horrifying. Now they'll be remembered for having breasts. They could have wore some flowing robe while in public, but then combat takes place with XCOM, and they reveal something alien and disturbing.

Tygen does comment about how weird it is that the viper has mammaries in the autopsy.

There's nothing horrifying about snake monsters at this point. That stuff is old hat regardless of how they would have designed her.

To be quite honest, I really didn't give it much thought, but now that you folks have posted about it so much, I can't stop thinking about it.

From a lore standpoint, some of the aliens got human DNA inserted, so that explains the more human like appearance. Like what happened to the Sectoid.

But yeah anthropomorphic boobs on humanoid animals is a bit of a trope, but it doesn't seem like much of a big deal in this game.

Well, human boobs contain glands that produce milk, so it doesn't seem that much of a stretch for aliens to adapt that gland to produce venom instead. ("That much of a stretch" within the context of the game's universe, of course)

Non-Mammal Mammaries is an actual trope, fwiw.

Now, that doesn't make it bad, mind. It's only really an issue if it's used for fanservice IMO.

Honestly i kinda miss skinnies.

Very surprised there wasn't an
assassinate the speaker mission

What they did to the Floater is really cool though. Although also... vaguely pointless. Like, what, we gonna have a flying alien angel for crowd control or some shit? Maybe the Etherals are just super into graphic design. God knows their logos are on point.

Bloodborne shows new and interesting things can still be done.

Everything FromSoftware makes is overdesigned in such an extreme way that it's hard to take seriously. As such, the subtle threat of, say, Thin Men is beyond them.

Firaxis' art and sound design have been incredibly on-point for XCOM: EU and 2, giving it a perpetually intense, mysterious, and threatening atmosphere.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Then you flashbang the Sectoid hanging out behind and get 7 soldiers on a mission!

Never, never flashbang a sectoid anyway.
They actually shoot if you flashbang 'em, while they fuck around ressing zombies or other things which expire when they're reduced to alien paste next turn anyway!

It helps if they mind control someone and you can't kill them in one turn to flashbang them.

the main menu for xcom eu is so goddamn sick.

They were right to scrap it, but it's a really sick image

Just finished the game.

Too hard.
Awesome!
Too easy.

Describes my journey through the game.

The final missions were way to easy due to my squad being so strong.

Cool image. Weird that the only thing they really changed was the hair, though.

Bald Space Marine is nothing next to the Guile look.

Just beat XCOM EU for the first time. Really liked it and can't wait to jump into this one, but I'll wait on a sale. Lower price and probable performance boosts by waiting.

I still check this thread all the time even though I don't own it.

Colonel Bender "Assie" Rodriguez was the chosen soldier.
