XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Be careful with mods. Having lots will eat up your RAM. I must have had 40 or 50, various types and my game was using up-to 12GB of RAM. Got rid of all of them and it's now 6GB of RAM (which is still too much). No way did I add 6GB of content. It just must be the way mods are installed into the game or something.

Really kind of weird how the higher tier weapons have a slight charge up time before shooting (plasma especially). I have no idea how anyone can get a shot on target with any of those things.

How long do you legendary guys wait before the first black site? I've done it right away (no upgrades) and full upgraded (mag weapons and predator armor) on commander, but I'm not sure if I want to play delay the doom clock the entire playthrough on legendary.

In my opinion it's the most optimal strategy to just let the clock tick and do the black site once you're running out of time. It pretty much gives you a free month to not care about the avatar project progress. I only had to do maybe three black site missions before the end game on Legendary.

As soon as I have all tier 2 weapons. But then, I beeline to gauss weapons right of the gate, so I just have access to it after I have them anyway.

Uhh, basic marksmanship? The way I was taught to aim and shoot with a rifle, it really wouldn't matter all that much, unless we're talking about the kind of twitch shots that would be kinda iffy in the first place.

And FPS/TPS games have plenty of guns with charge-up mechanics, some of which require pin-point accuracy. The idea and basic principles of following your target are no different, even if the physical actions are completely different.

Hey guys I just picked up the game today and I haven't really been paying attention to all the mods coming out. Y'all have any mod recommendations?

I recommend only getting show health values and maybe some accessory mods if you're interested in that sort of stuff. I don't even think the game really needs to be modded at all on a first playthrough, but show health values is a bit better than counting bars.

Show Health, Stop Wasting My Time and in options turn off the action cam. Its Just a Scratch is nice as well, makes health and injuries make way more sense, might affect game balance though.

Pure QoL mods that I recommend

Perfect information.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=625737801
This tells you hit/miss/crit/dodge %s on all shots (like overwatch) and gives you enemy stats as well.

Always Show Shot Breakdowns
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=620475262
Tired of clicking the left and right tabs to see hit and crit bonuses? Well this mod does it for you.

Numeric Health Display
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=621376448
Shows nice numbers for hp/armor/shields so you don't have to count pips. Really noticeable once you get to upwards of 10+ hp

Overwatch All/Others
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=621695447
OW All was baseline in EU so I don't know why it didn't carry over to 2. This mod also has an OW others option you can use to set everyone but your selected trooper on OW.

Evac All
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=618669868
I didn't subscribe to this until I saw Beagle use it and getting to see everyone evac at the same time is totes worth it.

Upgrade Reminder
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=624726628
Gives icons on soldiers in the ready room if you have weapon upgrades or PCS you can dole out to them

Mission Time Remaining
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=626589171
Tells you exactly how long you can fuck around before the missions expire.

Flank Preview
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=629910798
Put away your rulers because now the LoS indicator tells you if your new position is a flank or not as well.

Uniforms Manager
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=626291285
Set up uniforms for your squad to quickly coordinate outfits. Helpful when you're switching out armors or if you're like me and have tons of armor mods and don't want to search 100 options for the right one again.

Free Camera Rotation
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=616359783
Lets you rotate the camera exactly how much you need it to. Default camera controls still work too so it's nice for the additional fine tuning.

Anyone tried the All Pods Active mod?

Sounds interesting and broken at the same time.

This sounds absolutely absurd and makes Overwatch talents a lot more valuable, I guess?

(7-clip Specialists yessss)

edit: Update on hit tables (It was ALMOST as stated, except >100% hit throws a wrench in the works)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/47tvvi/a_comprehensive_and_hopefully_accessible_guide_to/

So uh, if I'm understanding correctly, enemy dodge can actually INCREASE your chance of critting them.

Base Hit 150
Base Crit 100
Dodge 0

50% chance to actually crit

Base Hit 150
Base Crit 100
Dodge 33%

100% (or, well, above 99%) to actually crit

This rabbit hole never stops going deeper!

Is there some way to rip My2k out of this game? Hitting Decline All does nothing, blocking the game through the firewall does nothing, and it causes my game to lag or sometimes not respond if I load a game before the stupid prompt pops up.

Jeez. I was mostly okay with crit and dodge sharing a roll with hit, but now I'm seriously considering using the mod that uses the old EU/EW rolls. If I see that I have a 100% to crit, I'd better get a crit or a dodge, not a regular hit.

Honestly two tweaks would make it far more straightforward:

- Dodge counts from the right, but as an absolute rather than a percentage of total hit, i.e. 150 base hit, 50 base dodge means you hit 100% of the time. In other words, in practice every 1% above 100 penalizes dodge by 1%. Simple to understand.

- Crit counts from left, but will not overwrite dodge. Hence having too much hit will never reduce your crit chance.

Hence if you have 100% hit chance 100% crit chance enemy has 30% dodge, it will roll crit 70% of the time and dodge 30% of the time. (Crit cannot override dodge)

But add 10% hit chance for 110% hit chance, 100% crit chance, 30% dodge means it rolls crit 80% of the time and dodge 20% of the time, and so on and so forth.

Wait.. it has a prompt? It hasn't bothered me about My2K once. It just quietly sits in the corner of the main menu like it doesn't exist.

When I saw the button in pre-release I feared the worst, too.

I put the game down over a week ago and jumped back in yesterday to finish it.
Im on the last mission and there is a weird bug. Every time i destroy the ball enemy, the game crashes. Its always at the exact same point during the explosion animation. The game stops responding and crashes to desktop.

Guess i need to put the game down again for a while...

Do key bindings keep resetting for anyone else? Started happening recently. Quite buggy too. If I bind the mouse scroll to zooming in and out, they won't function properly and the action keeps resetting to blank in the interface menu.

Also, waypoints sometimes crash the game for me.

I had that. I tried verifying, deleting the config files, and in the end I had to reinstall the entire game (moved the folder with the large files so I didn't have to download them) to get it to work. I can't remember if I deleted the my docs config files or the ones in the game directory, but I must have deleted the wrong ones for it not to fix the problem.

Am I the only one that finds Q, E, and the mouse wheel scrolling the opposite of what feels right? I do invert Y in games.

I'm tired and stupid, heh. Obviously if a reinstall worked, it was the config files (or something else) in the game directory. Time to stop posting. :p

So this is a really uninformed post, I've heard the game has some technical issues -- performance among them. I recently got myself a pc that I could actually say is finally capable of playing some newer videogames, although it's nothing crazy specs wise. Now, is the actually super demanding on your pc? or is it just sort of unoptimized across the board and kind of rough for everyone? Forgive me if this doesn't really make any sense.

Unfortunately it seems like the answer is "your mileage may vary." I am on a similarly targeted system as you and have a lot of trouble with settings turned up and even on minimum sometimes. I have very little problems with most games on high settings and XCOM 2 just seems to die.

It seems like it's across the board jank.

I had something similar - I had mind-controller a keeper and then it got scratched by a chryssalid. The game crashed to desktop every time it died. The recent hotfix addressed it and then I could get back in. Maybe another is needed? Nothing I could do (except go back to the beginning of the mission, which I wasn't willing to do) could get past it.

If there is ONE thing I had to say that FiraXCOM has over Mythos' X-COM games in every way imaginable, it's that EU and 2 have satisfying combat that beats out the classic ones in every respect.

But on the other hand, it NEEDS to be, since the Geoscape layer of EU and 2 is... Vestigial at best IMO.

The performance is incredibly rocky no matter what hardware you have. There are certain situations that bring even top-end GPUs to their knees for no apparent reason, like grenade aiming or certain visual effects, and other times where it is rock solid. It's very inconsistent.

If you're well beyond the min reqs you should be fine overall. It's playable but far from ideal. The game itself is a lot of fun in spite of these issues.

If any kind of framerate problems bother you or if you're unsure whether you can run it, then definitely way to see how Firaxis' patches smooth out the issues.

Huh. I don't remember if that appeared on first run or not.

Finally a bug that works in my favour.

Another quick question, an odd one.
I don't think I've ever bought a retail PC game, is it... is it all on the disk? Or is it practically the equivalent of a download code. I'd grab it on steam, but it would probably take a year to download -- Oh, and does it install via steam, or independently of any of that.?

Is anyone working on a mod to redo the way hit/crit and dodge works to change it to be separate rolls? Roll to hit, roll to dodge, roll to crit. The way everyone normally thinks of these things working.

I'm sure I already saw a mod that does this. Though roll to dodge is already a separate roll from roll to hit.

Already exists. It is called enemy unknown rolls or something like that.

I am, however, working on a mod to randomize starting eye colors. How hard can that be, right? (on hour 7 of trying)

It seems like a bug that this doesn't already happen.

It's an oversight, it's in the code, lol.
It's like "it's zero for now, while we don't decide base eye color for races"

I guess they just forgot to get back on this topic.

Oh yeah, mod working. Now my rookies come with face paint, patterns, tattoos and eye colors, how crazy is that?

Why should rng be used just for violence, right?

I might upload it to the workshop later.

Going to finally pick this up - anyone tried it with the Steam controller? My PC is in a really anti-social location in the house so prefer to play on the TV where possible, but if it doesn't work very well I'd rather save the money and just use the mouse.

I've heard good things about using the steam controller with this game, but I can't speak to any of it myself. I believe it has native support, the only controller with native support actually.

So, when a soldier gets his squaddie rank, he gets a new weapon.
This new weapon, doesn't have patterns or color. :/

I'm pretty sure if you give his old weapon a name or an upgrade you can re-equip it if it fits his class later.

I mean, when a specialist goes from rookie to squaddie, he gets to keep his weapon, with its color and pattern; but he is the only one.
But you'll lose it anyway when you upgrade to beam weapons, so...

I got mad because I went to all this trouble to figure out how to get rookies a random weapon pattern and color and then, in most cases, it will last only for one mission, maybe. lol.

But this is part of the bigger problem of weapon upgrades not retaining their customization. A problem some other modder will have to solve, I guess.

After playing with the most recent patch, the biggest problems are the damage pop-up glitches and the immense slowdowns during overwatches. Any gameplay ones I should be on the lookout for?

The "stop wasting my time" mod solves a lot of slowdowns during overwatches (it does away with the ones that results in misses, I think).

As for gameplay bugs, I don't know, stuff happens, lol.
But there is nothing consistent. Weird stuff just sprinkles through people's games randomly.
