Yeah, shredstorm is the best heavy weapons, it ocasionally instakill advanced troopers and such while, of course shredding things like sectopods and gatekeepers which basically make them killable on the same turn they appear by bluescreen stuff.

Shredstorm cannons and blaster launchers are the two powered weapons to go for.

Plasma blaster and hellfire projector are only decent. Flamethrowers (including the hellfire projector) don't panic enemies, otherwise they would be better. Plasma blaster is okay, but it's too damn hard to hit more than one enemy with it.

Sharpshooter with deadeye and bluescreen rounds one-shot codexes.

They should already do that without Deadeye. 8-10 + 5 = 13-15, that's enough even for codices on Legendary.

plasma blaster straight up destroys the cover you're using

I mean shredstorm could too I guess if you're not careful?

I kind of remember hitting a codex for 9, which pissed me off, but I don't remember specifics now. Maybe I didn't have bluescreen then.
I might have grazed it. I remember grazing a stun lancer who I had 99% chance to hit. That goddamn 1% saved his life.

Oh yeah, codices have graze. I hate grazing.

Yeah, this was how I was dealing with them (and Fan Fire for Gatekeeper/Sectopod w/ acid grenade) on Legendary.

Taking out graze on 100% is a godsend btw.

Blow up cover, and the enemy is standing there totally exposed...with +40% defense.

Run backwards, and set off a pod in the fog of war.

Move a soldier behind a soldier already there, and it sets off a pod.

Anyone have some pics showing the extent of Anarchy's Children? im wondering if it's all silly or if they included some more regular looking options. Any armor Alts?

Are you talking about EU or X-Com: UFO Defense? Because EU armor exists in the Resistance Warrior pack.

Either really - I'd love if they went that far back. The Resistance Armor is a good starting point, and yeah I think if they used the salvaged EU armor from that as a starting point it would have been better than what I'm seeing from this pack.

I dread going back to the old overwatch system where everyone unloads on an enemy. That alone would be rough.

Anarchy children is disappointing as paid dlc, put it's more options at least. Hoping the real dlc hits better.

I never bought Enemy WIthin

I wonder how hard it'd be to go back
The lamer sniper skills, simpler geoscape, and horrible overwatch system (compared to XCOM 2) would make it terrible. XCOM 2 is too much of an obvious improvement to go back to the first one and enjoy it.

A lot of the same principles that make xcom 2 fun are in xcom 1, so it's still an enjoyable game at its core. But there's so many quality of life improvements and common sense changes in the sequel that I would much rather play xcom 2, bugs aside.

I do miss mecs and jetpacks, though.

I had always hoped that someone would mod in a better overwatch system into XCOM EU/EW. Alas, that never happened.

I bet mecs and jetpacks are part of 2s dlc

Gotta say, rather underwhelmed with the Anarchys children DLC. Not much of worth when it comes to the haircuts, etc. The top knots all look stupid coming directly out the top of the head rather than towards the back and mohawks are just fucking lame at this juncture. More face options and tattoos wouldn't of gone amiss.

I wish you could be mobile in this game. Pods are usually spaced just far enough that if you go to flank, or advance, you'll just set off another group.

SMG and wraith suit and PCS

Along with the range coefficient on aim and activation ranges, I feel like movement is the perfect length w.r.t. the 'break points' for typical flanking etc that those small bonuses are really, really valuable.

edit: Misunderstood what you said. Yeah, I kinda agree.

I like the slutty (I say this as a big unisex compliment) torso options and some of the helmets.
Underwhelmed too by the hairs.

Oh, and having the arms as separate customizable slots is cool on itself.

i think that's part of the balance. Flanking shouldn't be this automatic play, because you always have the risk of pulling another pod and getting flanked yourself.

I'm just daydreaming an alternate play style, I can't disagree with what you just said. If you did have more room to maneuver, the balance could be more challenging pods, rather than the series of enemies you end up killing before they can do anything. I think I'd actually like the risk of death to be less, but to have a much higher chance of taking a beating, making medics valuable, as well as having a deep roster. Eh, game is great regardless.

I have to go through all my rookies and then customize them to have arms.
If this is not Shen's last gift, I don't know what is.

Finished my Commander run through last night with a romp through the final level, no losses. Was a bit easy, in the end. I'm tempted to see if I can complete an Ironman run now, though I might give the game a little bit of a break.

It's too bad we can't build more than one Psi Lab. It'd be interesting to see how a run with just six Magus would go. OK, maybe a Haywire Specialist with heals in there too.

Nice to see they still haven't fixed the psychedelic graphics in the final level too :/

I dont think they should I just think it's weird to open up the gates to customization like they have here and then release your first DLC as cosmetic stuff

This discussion came up a few times in the past. The closest analogy would be Civ5, which has a strong modding community and paid DLC (not expansions, actual bite-sized DLC maps and nations)

In the end, I think 1) convenience 2) not being a dick 3) risk of getting your account blacklisted, either by Firaxis or by Steam, is generally deterrent enough, although it's still possible.

If people think the DLC is worth it, they'll pay for it (I personally don't really dig the Anarchy DLC, but whatever) While probably not completely relevant to cosmetic DLC, there's also a stark difference between a paid product and a mod - the former is guaranteed to be at least of a certain quality, and of continued support. A modder can, if his mod stops working or bugs are discovered, simply choose to walk away. DLC has a financial obligation to fix issues, and needs to work if it wants to continue to generate revenue.

edit: This is not to take away from some truly awesome labor-of-love mods out there, from simple models all the way to stuff like Counter-Strike and DOTA before they went commercial. And paid products that simply don't work also exist, of course.

It's no worse that's for sure.

some aussie dude on something awful makes those.

they're great but he couldn't get the jiggle bones working for the chicken hat.

also him talking about the mod background stuff is fascinating. did you know that sounds are inexplicably tied into the animations? like, baked into it, no easy plug and replace.

So this game with picking up in its current state?

3570k @ 4.2
Gtx 670
8gb ram
They've patched a lot of the glitches and performance problems that it's had, so it performs fairly well now.

The way the game's made does mean that the absurd destructability and tons of particle effects can kick any rig's ass if you blow up too much stuff though.
